Re: Deals With Gold Discounts Zoo Tycoon, Forza, Styx, and more!

@crippyd @stylon

I know Edwin gave it a pretty good review. Apparently it's not perfect, let down by the floaty jumping and visuals that betray it's low budget, but if it had launched midyear with no competition it was good enough to have been quite successful. Launching just before Assassins Creed was just suicide.

I think I've got about a tenner in credit right now so I'll grab it

Re: Microsoft Forms New Xbox Team Focused on Kinect

Although I hardly ever use the motion control my Kinect voice control gets used constantly, especially since I bought the TV adapter as well. In fact I've got no idea where my TV remote is anymore because everything gets done with either voice control or Smartglass now

@EternalDragonX

Sounds a lot like my list too.

It's very odd that this seems to boil down to simply "What would you like to see so long as it's not very different from what we've already given you." Let's not get too imaginative Ubisoft.

A spin off Black Flag franchise that drops the Assassins/Templars in favour of doing a decent pirate game would come pretty high on my list

Re: Halo Master Chief Collection Early Adopters to Get Exclusive "Thank You" Bonuses, ODST Campaign Confirmed

So is this for everyone or just the people who played the MP?

As some of you know I bought the MCC having never played a 'real' Halo game before and half way through Halo 2 by God im bored. Truly truly baffled why everyone raves about this complete vacuum of plot and personality. However I have played ODST in the past (due to the Firefly cast) and loved it so I'd really like this freebie so I don't feel like I've completely wasted my money

I'm also in the camp of thinking Soul Suspect (despite the name) was a very over looked gem that got a lot of undue flack. Yes it wasn't a thrilling explosion packed rollercoaster, which weirdly is something people complained about in reviews, but it was never meant to be. It's a nice story driven murder investigation with some really tense survival horror scenes and some likeable characters. It's also one of the few games I've played this year that actually felt finished.

Sadly they've already announced no sequel due to poor sales

Re: Feature: Did Xbox Live Gold Represent Value for Money in 2014?

CunningSmile

I'm quite happy with my Gold membership, and I hate online gaming. I've paid for a membership for years mostly to take advantage of sales, and since GwG didn't exist for most of that period I'm not so self entitled to complain about the quality of the games given away.

Having said that I do think MS need to do something to counter the perception (whether true or not) that PS+ is a better service, and I think they need to be investing a lot more money to do that. The Sunset Overdrive 24hrs followed by the SO sale was a great move and I think more of that would be a great idea, even if we don't see any AAA titles on GwG for a while.

Oh, and Ryse or Dead Rising 3 for Christmas would be nice

Re: Xbox One Was the Best Selling Console in November in Both US and UK

CunningSmile

Nice to hear.

I did notice last night the Christmas adverts for the 2 consoles. PS4 has gone for a really arrogant sounding "The most powerful console" and "Best Selling console" with the implication you'd be stupid to buy anything else, whilst Xbox has gone for Rocky talking about getting knocked down and getting back up again.

I'm a sucker for an under dog, so even if I wasn't more inclined towards Xbox anyway I know which advert I preferred.

Re: Review: The Crew (Xbox One)

"The Crew is a game of missed opportunities. It isn’t a bad game by any means and the fact of the matter is that it's quite close to being a superb one. However, the more cynical practices of falsifying game length by filling the world with tedium, charging ludicrous amounts for add-ons, and drip-feeding upgrades to the point that the upgrades feel worthless, seem to have taken precedence over polishing up the actual gameplay itself"

Sadly I think with a few simple word substitutions that pretty much serves as the template for all Ubisoft's reviews this year. They seem to keep coming so close to really great games but then seem to develop some sort of weird OCD and throw a million other poorly thought out game mechanics at it and the actual game gets lost in the muddle. The same can be said of Unity and Watchdogs and probably about FarCry4 too. Someone needs to really take them to one side and explain that releasing a 20 hour story focused game that we play and enjoy is actually a better proposition than a 40+ hour muddle of pointless collectibles, and is probably going to result in it being played more continuously than forcing us to carry it over to our phones and let it fill up every hour of our lives.

Re: Review: Assassin's Creed Rogue (Xbox 360)

CunningSmile

One thing I loved in the first AC game, and which they've increasingly lost sight of as the series progressed, was that listening to the Templar death scenes you quickly realised these weren't moustache twirling bad guys obsessed with being evil; each of them genuinely thought they were doing the right thing. It'll be nice playing Rogue just to get back that balance.

Still going to wait for the XO port though
