Xbox is trying to provide as many ways as possible to enjoy its first-party games these days, so it probably should come as no surprise that we've seen a bunch of them announced for Blizzard's Battle.net platform in 2025 already.
Avowed kicked things off back in February when it launched into Battle.net on day one, and we've heard about the likes of DOOM: The Dark Ages and The Outer Worlds 2 that will be utilising the platform as well. Today, it's even been announced that Sea Of Thieves will be coming to Battle.net on May 22nd, 2025.
Looking at the small print, it's interesting to see that these games also support Xbox Play Anywhere through Battle.net as well, meaning that if you own them on an Xbox console already, you'll get the Battle.net version for free.
Of course, there's always the option of going through the Xbox PC app or Steam for all of these titles, but it's nice to see Microsoft providing as many choices as possible for PC gaming - especially with a handheld on the way.

cool , but steam is better & they already release their games there
While I'm not a fan of Bnet, this is pretty interesting. And the fact Play Anywhere somehow is supported is a HUGE win. Microsoft needs to strike while the iron is hot and advertise that feature right NOW. Rub Nintendo's greedy noses in it.
Why keep battle net at all? I was pretty sure they merge it with PC xbox store and call it a day.
@Millionski Cause people still have a large game collection on battle.net… and a lot of blizzard games on the back still rely on battle.net.
@AverageGamer @Millionski I suspect it's due to World of Warcraft. It would take to much to move WoW over to Xbox store. After all Battle.Net integration plays a big part in WoW
Battlenet is owned by Microsoft now so I would assume it becomes their 'alternative' storefront too and not a 3rd Party store like Steam for example. I also assume that as its their store now, they are 'not' really competing for 'sales' with their own Windows store as MS get all the money as owners regardless. Its not like selling on Steam or Playstation where Valve/Sony will take their cut as store/platform owners!
In my opinion Microsoft needs to kill the Xbox PC App in favour of having all their content on Battle.net. Buy games, access Game Pass titles, xCloud etc.
Yes I'd prefer Steam but lets be honest they will always have their own storefront and Battle.net works far better than Windows Store or the Xbox PC App.
