It's been a while since we last heard about Bungie's new 'Marathon' extraction shooter, but it's suddenly now reappeared with a new teaser trailer - revealing that a full gameplay reveal showcase will be taking place this Saturday.
Specifically, Marathon's gameplay reveal is set for April 12th at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 6pm BST. You'll be able to watch the full thing on Twitch, and we'll be recapping it here at Pure Xbox ASAP after the event as well.
As a reminder, here's what Bungie says about Marathon:
Marathon is a team-based extraction shooter and the first completely new project from Bungie, the creators of Halo and Destiny, in more than a decade. Set on the mysterious planet of Tau Ceti IV, Marathon will see players inhabit the bodies of Runners, cybernetic mercenaries who have been designed to survive the planet’s harsh environments. While exploring the lost colony that once inhabited the surface, players will search for valuable loot including new weapons and gear.
Bungie is obviously a PlayStation-owned studio these days, so there's been some debate about whether Marathon will launch on Xbox, but it's once again been mentioned as an Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S game this week.
All that's left is to see what Bungie has in store for us - here's hoping it's going to be as good as Halo / Destiny!

I might be way off, but I don't think Bungie will get the acclaim from this that they're expecting. Destiny was a unicorn, this, I cant see doing anywhere nearly as well.
I think it was part of the initial deal to buy Bungie that they would have some independence and still be multiplatform.
Independence was basically lost after they failed to meet targets set out before the Sony acquisition, so now Sony has a lot more control over Bungie nowadays. However, it’s good to see that the intention is still to launch Marathon on Xbox consoles as more people having access to games is only a good thing.
Were there any murmurs this wasn’t coming to Xbox? I thought it was announced a long time ago that it would
@LogicStrikesAgain It was always clear they would remain a semi independant company with multi platform in mind. Pretty amusing that this morning people where lambasting PS for writing an article about MS and claiming it was just a hit job. Then you get this here which is doing the exact same it seems.
Xbox fans likely won't buy it regardless. Most are Game Pass or nothing type of gamers these days, unfortunately.
I'm looking forward to seeing what this ends up like, will definitely have to try it out
Sony's own multiplatform first party ventures are pretty much being ignored, but they bought Bungie shortly after Microsoft bought Zenimax (Bethesda) and made it clear that Bungie games would still release simultaneously on all platforms including Xbox. Similarly Sony has played ball (pun intended) when they were told to make MLB the Show Multiplatform (literally just Xbox and Game Pass at the start). I don't think they're allergic to money or as against multiplatform games as is made out. Certainly not as much so as Microsoft, but times are very different all around from the olden days.
@TheGameThrifter Spending on Xbox is higher than ever and actual analytics and earnings calls have cited Xbox Game Pass subscribers are buying more games and spending more within games. They pointed to discovery, freeing up money to buy games not on the service, and the Microtransactions discount + lower barrier to entry for the game. Weird of you to bring up game pass at all here, when the very obvious real issue is that Marathon is launching into a reality where people expect live service online multiplayer games to be free to play (especially shooters). Save a few, it's really hard for live service games with a starting price tag to find an audience. Sony JUST learned this with Concord (and that game wasn't on Xbox platforms at all).
Instant giga flop
Looks colorful.... that's about it. We'll obviously see more on the 12th.
