This year marks two decades since the Xbox 360 first launched back in November of 2005, and while we'll obviously be celebrating that anniversary a lot more throughout the year, we wanted to start things off a little early as well.
A few months ago, we highlighted how the Xbox 360 was still an "amazing console in 2024", and clearly many others think the same way, as we're still seeing new owners join the party 20 years since the system first made its debut!
The Xbox 360 Reddit community is a great place to spot all of these new owners as they crop up:
Of course, the community isn't just full of people buying the Xbox 360 for the first time, but also finding new games to check out for their collections, taking part in LAN parties, and even going on the hunt for the illusive 'Blades' dashboard!
Is The Xbox 360 Worth Buying In 2025?
We've said it before and we'll say it again - the Xbox 360 is a fantastic console to own in 2025. Sure, the digital marketplace has since closed down, but you can still get the majority of the physical Xbox 360 library for very cheap these days, and there are some unbelievable games in there - some of which also work on more modern Xbox consoles.
The big advantage of owning an Xbox 360 right now is the ability to play all the non-backwards compatible games though, of which there are many. We've highlighted a few here at Pure Xbox, including the awesome 2010 racer Blur!
If you've got a hard drive for the Xbox 360, you can even play some original Xbox games that don't work on modern consoles — such as Burnout 3 and Tony Hawk's Underground — and they function really well for the most part.
Our suggestion would be to look for one of the later Xbox 360 models (like the Xbox 360 S or Xbox 360 E) rather than the earlier ones which were plagued with the Red Ring of Death issue. You get a few quality-of-life improvements with these, and it's also worth noting the earliest models didn't include an HDMI port.

This is why game preservation is key. I wish every game in the ecosystem was BC because I'd love some OG classics such as Buffy 1 + 2.
I still use my 360 occasionally and still collect physical games on it here and there. The dream is near flawless emulation for the entire catalog.
The Xbox glory days for me.
I picked one up last month for £40. Was the Slim 250gb with 2 controllers and 10 games. My son loves it!
Also got a Kinect for £1 lol
Mines been under my bed since I bought my Xbox one many moons ago which is also there now since I bought my series s which is I'm my daughters room since I bought my series x!
Under the bed is retirement ha!
@Dalamar73 😂 I managed to pick a bunch of Kinect games for <£10. They are so cheap!
I keep thinking about selling mine, I never use it. But every time I think about it I remember all the joy it gave me and can't quite let go. Besides what could I sell it for with a mismatched pad and unboxed? £30 maybe? I think I prefer the wave of joy I get every now and again when I look at it.
@Dalamar73 It is! Not tried it yet and only cost £1.50!
I use my 360 to play forza 3!
@ZeD I'd buy that for a dollar 💸
Because it’s super cheap now to buy the Xbox 360 with controllers and games. There are so many good games also so it’s great content for great price.
Hello there fellow gamers.
I chose the option "No, I ended up selling mine", mostly because I needed money to purchase my PS4 at the time.
Back then, if I wanted to be able to purchase brand new systems, i needed to sell others, so that´s what i did.
But, the fact that Xbox Series X alows me to play my physical copies of OG Xbox, Xbox 360 and even some Xbox One games that I was able to purchase in sales, as well as digital sales, is what makes the Series X so awesome to me.
I can play Ninja Gaiden Black, Psychonauts, the Mass Effect trilogy, the Gears of War trilogy and Gears of War 4 and 5, all games that I own as well as many others that I´ve been getting digital is pretty amazing. Great value in game preservation.
Now if only I could play Project Gotham Racing games on Series X...... Oh well, maybe one day.
Cheers and happy gaming
My son and I still have his R2-D2 model Xbox 360 which has The Simpson's Arcade on it I just dont have it hooked up right now.
The 360 was an awesome system and for me was the first console that marked modern gaming. It was the first console that I connected to the internet and downloaded games for it.
Granted I had a PC before that and did download games on that but it just was different with a home console. It was the first console I played multiplayer matches on, mostly LOTR Conquest lol. It was also the first console my son and I shared.
Its still one of my favorite console.
I consider 360 the best console I have ever owned. It released a year before PS3 and lasted right beside PS3 the entire way. Some people may get down on the console about RRoD, but MS replaced the one RRoD I had and I never had a problem after.
To me, 360 blazed the trail for all subsequent consoles. It was the first real online console, introduced gamer profiles, could run cutting edge games at the time, and was the last decently priced console.
Mine is still used alot as a rockband/guitar hero machine. I have so many of them and the dlc.
I don't have a gym near my house, so when I exercise, I sometimes play with the Xbox 360 Kinect. Of course, Ring Fit Adventure on Switch is another option, but it is not a replacement for Kinect.
I still use it for Ncaa Football 14
I picked up a couple of faulty/untested 360s on eBay for next to nothing a few months ago. I really need to get around to trying to fix them.
It’s my first and last Xbox.
Actually picked another one up recently. It’s still a shame to store is no longer open. Was and is a great console.
