Well, shortly after sharing an updated Xbox Game Studios roadmap for 2025 and beyond, Microsoft has announced that its next big first-party release has officially gone gold! Yep, Compulsion Games' South of Midnight is now locked and loaded for its Xbox Game Pass release next month.
That Game Pass release arrives on April 8th - or folks can pay a premium for early access to the title on April 3rd. If you've not been keeping up with the studio's We Happy Few successor, here's a bit more about what to expect from South of Midnight:
"South of Midnight is a new action-adventure from Compulsion Games. Explore the mythos and confront mysterious creatures of the Deep South in this modern folktale while learning to weave an ancient power to surmount obstacles and unravel your family’s hidden past."
Alongside news of the game's 'gone gold' status, Xbox has also announced that the South of Midnight official soundtrack is "available today on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Bandcamp".
That's it then, folks, there's only a few more days to go until we can all experience Compulsion's deep south, folklore-inspired tale on Xbox Game Pass. We're really looking forward to this one - the team's early preview went down an absolute treat back in February.

7 years to make one game 😮 hope it’s good.
I still haven't decided if or when I will give this a try. I still have a bunch of big games purchased in black friday sales to get to. Gamepass really does a number on the backlog progress.
Got south of midnight preloaded already!
@Residentsteven And where did you get those years from.?
Gameplay Director..
"According to Roy, "it's [taken] around five years, I'd say, from the first few concepts." He references the extensive research, planning, and iterative prototypes throughout pre-production phases, though "the bulk of the game has been made in the last three years."
@Rog-X Microsoft acquired them in 2018 and it’s taken them this long for one game 🤯 a bit like The Initiative with perfect dark 😮.
@Residentsteven they were still working on DLCs and updates for we happy few well into 2019. Probably didn't start this until 2020.
@FatGuyInLilCoat oh that’s still quite a while imo this is only a short game to I have heard.
Really hope it does well for them. I like how they aint afraid to try new concepts.
Gotta wish them luck. GP gives them plenty of players willing to try and I hope many of them like it.
I'll be there for the fantastic art style. Maybe I'll be surprised and some of the gameplay elements will pull me in too. Fingers crossed for Compulsion..
Really need to finish avowed before this launches and I'm only 25% through the game so far.
I look forward to trying it out next month.
Looking forward this one more than most 😎 although towerborne is up there with it too now 😅
The first half of the year is seriously a busy period for GamePass… a backlog enhancer period?
Super excited to play this one! Kinda reminds me of Lost in Random but better.
