It's been over six years now since the arrival of Metro Exodus on Xbox; the last mainline release in the 4A Games FPS series - and now the team has another update on the franchise's follow-up.
As part of its 15th anniversary post this past weekend, the Ukrainian developer talked about the difficulties of making a game during wartime, and how the sequel will be "shaped" by the events of the last three years.
"As art became life for many of our developers in Ukraine, we drew from that lived experience to create an even darker story, those themes already present in Metro becoming ever-more apparent and important."
"We are still living and working during this wartime, and that inevitably shapes the games we make."
4A Games goes on to say that players are "in for quite the ride" with their sequel to Exodus when it arrives, adding that "franchise creator, author, and activist Dmitry Glukhovsky" is continuing to work with the team on the next game's story.
We've had a great time playing the Metro series up to this point, especially Exodus which got a fantastic Xbox Series X|S upgrade a few years back now. It'll be interesting to see what the team cooks up with Xbox One now left behind, and the studio has a closing message for us all in its anniversary post:
"To our community, thank you for your words of support, your patience and your excitement over what is to come. We are grateful to have you, and rest assured, despite the challenges we face, we will overcome them as we have all others before."
Are you looking forward to the next Metro game? Tell us your thoughts on Exodus and its sequel down below.

I tried this saga for the first time last year and just couldn't get into it (Exodus).
I look forward to it, bought the VR one on sale.
Loved the metro games, would love another
I really do like this series, it's full of atmosphere. A mostly linear and focused narrative shooter with a bit of survival horror thrown in, I think it should be played on higher difficulties. The first two are still the best in my opinion. Exodus was an interesting concept but felt far less claustrophobic owing to the semi open world setting. I have the VR game Awakening but want to finish Arkham Shadow first.
I loved the first two games, not so much Exodus but - having not played anything for last few months - might be time to give it a retry…
Interesting to see it going even after Exodus and the VR one. I own the first 2 games and they are great. Take getting used to be not a bad thing. Exodus didn't really care for that much not a bad game but just didn't appeal to me and VR seems fair for the series.
Whatever they have planned still I guess.
This is one of my favorite studios. Their games are just so atmospheric and beautiful and uh-huh amazing! They also know how to put their games on sale. So much fun. Can't wait to see what they put out next because they are guaranteed income from me 🥳🥳
I really enjoyed all the Metro games. Glad to hear this.
I just tried and completed Exodus, it was okay.
