This week marks the 19th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and rumours have been circulating online for some time now about a potential remake - with claims this supposed title could even be getting a shadow drop on Xbox in the future.

While many fans were hoping to hear something timed in with the anniversary, it seems we might have to keep waiting. The official Bethesda social media account has acknowledged this date, but unfortunately, it's just a few words, a simple image, and nothing more... (for now).

Fans have investigated the above image a bit more, but at this stage, have come back empty-handed - with many stating how now would be the ideal time to announce the long-rumoured remake. It's also worth noting Bethesda regularly celebrates its game anniversaries, so this post acknowledging one of its classics is nothing out of the ordinary.

The latest update on this rumoured Oblivion project was shared just last week, with the industry leaker 'NateTheHate' claiming the gap between this game's "reveal and release will be minimal" and also noting how a shadow drop was possible on Xbox.

Previous reports about this remake suggest it's being handled by the team at Virtuos and will be "fully remade" in Unreal Engine 5. This new version is also said to include six improved areas to enhance the overall gameplay and quality-of-life experience.

If you still want to celebrate Oblivion's anniversary this week, you can access it on Microsoft's storefront as part of the backwards compatibility program. It's also available on Xbox Game Pass.
