It's getting on for six months now since Bethesda released Shattered Space — its big DLC expansion for Starfield — and fans are getting restless to hear about what's next for the Xbox RPG. Well, this week, Bethesda has responded to one of those restless fans - giving us a vague but interesting update on the future of Starfield.
Posting out to social media, Bethesda says "the team has been hard at work" and that it has "a lot of exciting things planned for the game this year". The studio goes on to say that it isn't sharing "specific details" just yet - but reminds fans that things are absolutely happening for Starfield in the coming months.
"We know you're eager for an update, and we truly appreciate your passion for Starfield. The team has been hard at work, and while we're not ready to share specific details just yet, we have a lot of exciting things planned for the game this year that we can't wait to talk about when the time is right.
We’re always listening and taking your feedback to heart. Thanks for being part of this journey with us."
So, it looks like Bethesda has plenty of plans for Starfield in 2025 - although exactly what shape those plans will take remains to be seen. While the developer once said that more expansions were planned following Shattered Space, Bethesda hasn't sold us anything beyond last year's DLC pack, so nothing is nailed-on in that regard just yet. Having said that, the original fan tweet that Bethesda responded to here did mention "the next DLC" - so we'll just have to wait and see what the team has in store for us there.
In other Starfield-related talk this week, original God of War director David Jaffe recently said that the Bethesda title has "one of the best single player narratives in gaming ever" - high praise indeed for Xbox's 2023 RPG.

This game as been over for me ages ago, especially after the lacklustre dlc.
Maybe a PS5 release might give some extra reward for the game. I don’t think many in the PS5 side will buy. The PS5 side will buy games they don’t have much of, like FH5 and a big meta of 92 and a very good AAA quality game.

Very happy to see Bethesda still committed to the game. It's not for everyone but I personally loved Starfield and hope they'll stick with their original DLC expansion plan,- I'm ready for more exploration 😀.
A very disappointing game I won't be going back no matter what they do!
Give me a break.... they didn't say anything.
It's more canned PR crap, from a company that still can't figure out how to talk to their fanbase.
Only sold The DLC??
What would you call the Creation Club Horse Armor slop?
PS5 reboot to try & rekindle franchise interest is likely going to be the next announcement. It may have a new dlc to go along with it but I wouldn't count on it.
They’re working on optimizing it for PS5 Pro and Switch 2 and hoping to salvage that launch with what they’re hoping is a Phantom Liberty tier DLC most likely. That’s what I’d guess.
Although I’d rather just have Elder Scrolls 6 and I’m hoping that feels like Elder Scrolls rather than Starfield.
Expecting a new DLC and the complete edition to launch Day 1 on Switch 2 and PS5. I'd rather they were focusing on ES6 though.
It just felt so last gen.
“fans are getting restless”
Wait, there are enough Starfield fans to be restless about this game?
I would like to see what they have ready. We may find out at not-E3.
Although honestly, they might as well just move to Starfield 2.
I enjoyed Starfield a lot and I look forward to seeing what's next for it. Even if the Shattered Space DLC wasn't great.
Cool, looking forward to what Bethesda has to share.
I'm still shocked they fumbled this game like they did... I'd be willing to ignore the vast amount of nothing, even on the main planets that should be covered in cities and only have one settlement. But the gameplay is so dumbed down and lacks any meaning that it's just not enjoyable. It just had to be Fallout 4 in space... but the only thing they learned from Fallout 4 was the voiced protag was a bad idea. So Fallout 4 was a bad Fallout game because it was made to be Starfield's prototype, but the prototype was better than the end product.
I'm like the only guy on PX that likes to play this almost every day.
Really happy to hear they are working on it still as honestly I thought they would give up on it given: a) The modern world business environment, b) The poor 1st DLC sales/playtimes
I literally upgraded from Series S to X for this one game, lol
@LostInBlue0
I'm with you, have the Starfield news website bookmarked for almost daily checking
100% this will come to PS. I’m ok with that. But Skyri/fallout 3 are in my all time fae games. Just struggled with this. Feel since base building in fallout 4 then in this will ship build too it took away from base game. I want to wonder about and come across amazing little side stories not spend hours in inventory figuring out what I need to build
I think an update that makes 20+ unique bosses to match each temple would help the game tremendously. Making small dungeons in each temple with unique puzzles would help too. More large boss creatures and mixing up the AI's battle gear would be great.
Did they ever fix the heinous, beyond washed out HDR?
@TheGiraffe Nah you aren’t alone. It just tends that people that like games spend more time playing than talking about them. Negative people tend to spend more time telling everyone why they dislike somebody/something, how nobody else likes it and how the company should go bankrupt. Happens with everything really.
@Kilamanjaro
Those are great update ideas! and I'd like to play them
@TheGiraffe I still play it quite often and I also like Redfall alot. They really turned Redfall around with that last update.
@Jenkinss they did fix it a little bit (I can't remember the patch but 1.8 or 9 a while back) but the game has a pretty browny grey colour palette anyway. Spose that's kinda sci-fi colour scheme lol
Playing kingdom come 2 recently really scratched the old Bethesda itch! It showed me there's still a big place in my heart for RPG games like this laden with old school systems but starfield sure wasn't it. I feel like a lot of starfields failures were blamed on stuff like inventory management but the truth was that it was just poorly designed and badly written to the point it can never really be salvaged.
Just please stop and move the entire team to the Elder Scrolls 6.
Unlucky, PS5 owners - you're getting Starfield, too.
Great news! I love this game and hope for as many DLCs as they can release. Shattered Space was amazing, and so was the base game.
As for the haters, maybe you guys could find something to play instead of complaining about Startfield, that I'm sure most of you haven't even played.
I'm actually shocked by the negative responses about this game. Personally, I loved the story and the exploration despite the constant loading screens. This game could've been a true masterpiece if they actually used a better engine, but alas, what's done is done. Hope they knock out the next DLC out of the park because I have heard that Shattered Space was a mess gurl.
I loved the base game but Shattered Space was pretty meh.
Let me marry Hadrian!!!
Starfield appears to have lost its creative freedom due to the contemporary political context, and the world is not as vibrant as it could be.
I prefer savage worlds like Skyrim.
