According to fresh data from outlet mindGAME, Xbox's Avowed is about to reach 6 million players across Game Pass and traditional sales on Xbox & PC. The source also stacks this up against recent Microsoft releases Black Ops 6 and Indiana Jones - which reached 26.2 million and 4 million in their first months on the market, respectively.
MindGAME says that it uses "search volume, streaming hours, video content engagement, Steam concurrent players, Game Pass subscriber counts" — and sales of course — to gather its data - although they're certainly estimates as these facts and figures aren't coming directly from Microsoft.
Relatively speaking though, this looks like a pretty good start for Avowed, especially considering we're only about two weeks on from the game's standard edition release. Recently, we also heard directly from developer Obsidian that it is "happy with sales so far", which is another positive sign for the brand-new Xbox RPG.
Generally speaking, it's probably worth taking these mindGAME figures with a pinch of salt considering a lot of this info is quite difficult to track, but it does give us a good gauge on how Avowed is performing compared to other big Xbox first-party releases of late. Thankfully, the game itself is pretty darn good too, as we raved about in our recent Pure Xbox Avowed review.
Thoughts on these figures, folks? Talk to us about 'em down below.

I still have to properly start this game!
I will one day atomfall might be more up my street though when it drops later this month!
Sort of surprising to me, but I think Xbox was wise to push Avowed back to the launch period it had, as it didn’t have much in the way of competition to keep it from hitting players. It was early enough that Monster Hunter didn’t hurt it and there was perhaps less overlap than expected with KCD2 players… and, yeah, there’s basically nothing else out there this year, so I do believe the “new games” crowd jumped on it whereas Indy released at an awkward timeframe and competed with a brand new Marvel Rivals. You could say it’s a different demographic, but is it? I know more people that were interested in Indy than Avowed for sure, but put it off because they were hooked on Rivals. Some even said that, even with the GP sub, they’re waiting for a PS release. I honestly think Indy’s going to be a bigger hit on PlayStation, whereas I don’t feel the same would be true for Avowed. Either way, happy to see success for the team. Personally, it hasn’t really struck a chord with me, but that’s ok. Not every game will. Happy others are finding an Xbox success.
Seems like a nonsense way to estimate this. What was their early estimate for Veilguard?
I'm enjoying it. Almost 17 hours in and I'm just in the second main area. So much to do and discover!
Just over 50 hours to finish it. Really liked it in the main.
Wasn't a big fan of the combat so went with both builds having wands and grimoires giving me access to 8 spells.
Despite all the choices you can make I found the ending to lack the personal touch and I was left not feeling much at all about it.
But otherwise really good solid 8/10 for me.
Great game and rpg games usually have longer legs. I bet this game continues to sell.
Very surprised. Horrible game. About as good as Starfield and Redfall. Now Indy, that's a game.
I went into this game expecting "okay."
But I was hooked immediately, and it just gets better as I play more.
Obsidian has knocked it outta the park with this one.
I’m really enjoying it. Over 50 hours in, and am currently in the game’s third region - Shatterscarp. I’m exploring every nook and cranny (which is usually rewarded), and mixing it up between main and side quests. Even in performance mode the graphics are really nice too.
It's nice to see articles like this one celebrating a success even just a mild one .
One thing I like about Obsidian have always set realistic goals for what they do and don't expect everything they make to set the world on fire
I do get really fatigued by the endless parade of folks wishing particular games to fail or stating a game had failed because eleven billion people didn't buy it.
Most of those sort of folks are agenda biased whether it's against a platform, politics or its just plain greed using hate to sell ads and push engagement on YouTube.
Me when I don't enjoy something I will at most state why on a relevent article on pure xbox or push square then move on to something I enjoy.
Life is to short to waste on nonsense like constantly hating on something as unimportant as a game.
@Romans12 You're reaching so much you might sprain your shoulder. There's absolutely no comparison between Avowed and Redfall.
It seems like most people are having a similar experience to mine where they really enjoy it during the first area, starts to wear thin during the second area, and by the end you’re ready to move on
Gutted that I couldn't carry on with this game but really glad to hear of its success. It's well deserved.
Is that 6 million figure inclusive of people like me who played it for 15mins on GP and likely won't play it again?
@Romans12 interesting to bundle Starfield with Redfall... Out of these 4 games Starfield is top and Redfall is bottom for me!
The internet, always with the negative waves lol.
I love the game, crammed with things to discover!
I am really enjoying what I have played so far. I am only 8 hours in ND only did the first quest cause there is so much to do and explore. This game fixed alot of problems I had with Skyrim, the biggest one encumbrance.
I am doing an Sword/Ax dual welding build with an arquebus as my other load out. Such a fun and satisfying build for me to play.
@RiverGenie 100% agree some peoples behaviour over video games is embarrassing and wouldn't be tolerated anywhere but the internet.
I'm really enjoying my time with it right now. Recently got my Series X this past week and I've spent 15 hours so far just getting acquainted with everything there is to experience. 🙂
@neillaw
I am not sure what your comment is getting at. It is a stated estimate that 6 mln people played the game. As with almost every game there are a significant amount of people that choose not to continue to play it after 15 minutes. I heard a stat once that less than 20% of gamers ever finish a campaign in any game.
It is the same as saying an estimated billion people ate at McDonald's last year. Is that inclusive of people like me who didn't like the food?
@NeoRatt the point is that there are no legs in the figure, I thought that would be quite obvious and I think you know exactly the point here as you took the time for the reply. I expect most hyped games on Gamepass will get similar player counts off the bat considering the 34 Millon subscribers.
Not trying to be a "try-hard"... Yet, the visuals of Avowed and Starfield and Indy and Veilguard all seem to have this same bland and cramped look and granted I have not played any of them but the flat ugliness just turns me off and I get bored and have no interest in even trying. Especially Indy and Avowed.
