Today, analyst firm Circana (formerly NPD), has revealed some interesting facts & figures about how the gaming industry is performing at the start of 2025 - and we thought Xbox's game sales chart for last month was quite interesting to look at.
The top 10 best-selling games on Xbox last month were all published by either EA or Microsoft. This ranking is for US sales only and doesn't count add-ons - but yep, Xbox & EA completely dominated the list with five games each.
It's also quite interesting that 2021 Xbox Game Pass title Forza Horizon 5 made the list; more than three years after its initial launch. We'd hazard a guess that the hype around the game has grown since Microsoft's announcement of a PS5 port - which has seemingly led to more sales on Xbox as well.
As for the rest of the list, well, there aren't any huge surprises we suppose - the chart is dominated by Call of Duty, Minecraft and a plethora of EA Sports titles. Subsequent months should look a bit more varied; with more new games releasing as we move past the January dry patch.
What do you make of this January 2025 sales chart for Xbox? Drop your thoughts in the comments down below.

@purexbox @kezelpaso (apologies not the right thread)
Is the cost of auto redeeming GPU through points going up? I’ve seen screenshots of it now being 17k points per month.
Or do we know if it’s an error?
And I don’t own or play any of those games … there seems two different groups of gamers… I’m in the rpg open world single player group
Dang, outside of FH5, Flight Sim, and Minecraft, this is a pretty sad list. It's a bummer people would rather buy the same copy-paste slop every year instead of trying something new and interesting.
Nice to see FH5 getting a bump.
All games are either on gamepass already or are known to eventually hit gamepass ultimate via EA play. GP must not be as hard on sales as the narrative tries to make it out to be.
Sports games, Call of Duty, and other miscellaneous live services. Oh dear, depressingly predictable.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner It's already showing as 17,000 for me sadly. But the 1 month (without auto-renew) is still 12,000 and 3 months 35,000. Thanks for the heads up I'll stack now.
@themightyant id expect the 3month to go upto 50k so yeah stack now.
Xbox is literally just jock dude bros. It's hilarious. They are by far the biggest paying demographic in gaming.
Makes it even funnier when almost every AAA game panders to every group BUT them.
Looking at this list you get why indies belong on Game Pass. Without it, they would have a hard time getting any exposure. I for one am looking at playing indies more and more, so Game Pass is a great fit for me as things stand.
How on earth are people still buying Minecraft 🤣
@dreadful making games for that group doesn't improve your ESG score, simple as.
