Xbox developer Playground Games has announced that Forza Horizon 5 is officially launching on PlayStation 5, with the open-world racer set to move over in Spring 2025.
First released in late 2021 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC, Forza Horizon 5 took players to Horizon Mexico in the series' fifth open-world outing on Xbox. Of course, this marks Forza's debut on PlayStation, having been an Xbox console exclusive ever since Microsoft built the franchise to compete with Gran Turismo.
"Our team is excited to announce that this spring, PlayStation 5 players will be able to explore Mexico’s beautiful roads and experience the Horizon Festival for the first time as we are officially launching Forza Horizon 5 on PS5.
We are excited to see the Forza Horizon 5 community grow with new players on PS5, and we can't wait to see the creativity and skill these new creators, builders, and racers will bring to our vibrant community.
We look forward to welcoming new players to the Horizon Festival, and we are sure Forza Horizon 5 veterans will share their experience, tips, and tricks to make beginners feel right at home as they start their adventures."
The team has also given us some extra development details on this upcoming PS5 port. Panic Button, a studio that's worked on the Forza series before, is leading this new version - with assistance from long-time Forza studios Turn 10 and Playground Games.
"The PlayStation 5 version of Forza Horizon 5, developed by Panic Button in partnership with Turn 10 Studios and Playground Games, will have the same content as the Xbox and PC releases of the game. Previously released Car Packs, as well as the Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure expansions, will also be available for purchase.
Wishlist Forza Horizon 5 on the PlayStation Store today to stay informed about updates and release times. If you already own the game on another platform, share the news with your friends in the PS5 community and tell them to get ready to join your convoys as cross-play will be available for all Forza Horizon 5 players across Xbox consoles, PC and PS5."
Xbox fans, how do you feel about Forza moving over to PS5? Move through the gears and give us your thoughts down below.

In before all the hate; it's not the end of the world guys 🤣 and given MS' clear indications, it's not a huge surprise either.
I've no issue with this. It being available elsewhere doesn't change your experience with the game one iota. In fact it only prospects the studios, (and in turn, MS), giving them and the games even more reach.
Xbox is clearly moving in this direction with some games launching simultaneously and some being timed exclusive, with very little (if anything) off the table. They've made no secret of it. It's not a huge deal and, despite what the few believe, it's not the end of Xbox.
Further; I'm glad it's going. PS (and likely the Switch 2 too) are getting one hell of a good racer to enjoy.
Forza and Gran Turismo on Playstation is pretty crazy. Too bad Sony won't return the favor and put GT7 on Xbox.
Gran Turismo and Forza on the same platform is going to be wild.
Forza was one of Xbox's three big pillars. While it's not surprising that it's being ported, this feels like a watershed moment for Xbox's cross-platform plans.
It’s the one Xbox franchise that PS could do with a AAA open world arcade type racer.
This has well targeted and thought out by Microsoft.
Console time of death: 1:30 PM CST.
It's a slow death rattle from here.
It’s amazing now this is really happening how so appealing Microsoft are making the PS console.
If they add a gears and halo that’s then my three favourite Xbox exclusive franchises gone to PS.
Then I know for the minority the PS5 Pro in console world will be best place to play them.
Man it is totally crazy times.
I felt numb when I saw this news. I knew it would come eventually, and I completely understand why this is a thing but it doesn't sit quite right with me. When rumours of MS porting games started, I predicted that FH5 would be one of the first and was right (despite being told it would never happen by some!). The original FH was the first game I ever played from start to finish and made me fall in love with not just Forza, but Xbox as a whole, and I will, in all likelihood stick with Xbox as long as they provide 1st party games on GP Day 1, but this certainly feels like a small part of the Xbox brand has died with this news. And I know the game is on PC, but this feels different. Hopefully, MS' plans prove to be right and the value for money offered by Xbox will help improve GamePass and console sales, and bring a brighter future.
@OldGamer999 Jez Corden is reporting that Halo MCC is coming sooner rather than later as well
@Isolte well more money = more money spent on games and game pass. Seems pretty simple if you think about it. Xbox is just a platform for game pass to be played on so it’s vital
I wish they port halo/gears ASAP so fanboys and trolls take their W and we can finally flip the page.
This reminds me of almost 2 years of ABK news on a daily basis. Literally we are discussing same things over and over again.
Nothing new, they confirmed recently several times the new strategy. If you lose your mind because another exclusive is not exclusive, I recommend purchasing switch 2 or PS and find peace.
We knew it was coming but its still wierd seeing one of the big three Xbox exclusive games being confirmed for Playstation.
***** disgusting. Xbox has nothing know for the racing community now.. Loads play racing only.. Thats ps5 consoles for them now
@Elbow wasnt it last feb? And every week after.
@DeanyBabyy I might have missed it did it say that Xbox players won’t be able to play FH5? Nope so calm down lol
I'm excited to see more user created content available. I will definitely check back in with it (on gamepass) after it's been on ps for awhile. This will be an excellent thing for the franchise to have more players online and contributing.
I’m fine with it. I’ll enjoyed the hell out of it trough Gamepass. Let PS5 players buy the game. For almost price they pay, I’ll enjoyed 3 years of Xbox Gamepass. (With that Xbox live deal)
For me, Xbox is still the best place to play. Thanks to Gamepass. Gamepass wil be the reason I’ll stay with Xbox as long as Xbox is a console.
@DeanyBabyy I play primarilly racing games but for those wanting to play jus them, you'd be silly to not have a PC instead. Ultimately, Xbox players will have just as much as PS players with the exception of what, Gran Turismo? In return, they get games, like Forza Horizon, day and date on Game Pass, as opposed to having to pay x amount for every release
It was the best of days,it was the worse of days .
I've been expecting it for a while but I didn't think it would just be dropping onto the platform just like that so soon with so little fanfare.
In before all the defenders. It’s the end of the world guys.
More money for Microsoft to keep pumping out great first party games for us to play on GamePass! Bring it on!
Well, there goes the red line that I guess never existed.
I may hold off on Avowed for Xbox as it's entirely possible that Switch 2 gets a port.
Edit: Also, it looks like the rumor that MCC is coming to Switch 2 is true. I hope they use gyro because that would be an awesome way to play.
@Millionski Slippery slope began with the ports last year, but it was generally seen that if any of the "Big 3" (Halo, Gears, Forza) were ported, the end was nigh.
It is nigh, for the console. Sony's gonna have unrestrained control which is a horrible situation for everybody.
Edit: I added in the names of the 'Big 3' just to help with clarification.
@DeanyBabyy Xbox has nothing know for the racing community now.. Loads play racing only.. Thats ps5 consoles for them now
It's getting ported from Xbox, not delisted from Xbox. It being available on other platform(s) - I believe it will go to Switch 2 too - is a good thing for the game, and in turn, the racing-only community.
Seriously, I don't understand the rage people have over this lol. MS have said for months and months that there's no red lines. MS have said for years and years that they want to remove barriers and let people place great games wherever they want. This isn't new news, it's just a new piece from the same jig-saw that we all knew existed.
The fact that more coverage, reach, and income for the studios we all love, sets so many people ablaze, shocks me. It's not the end of days - despite what some have you believe. This gives MS more to reinvest into the ecosystem. It's win win.
Might double dip on FH5 as I didn’t get far on the game and even though it looked great in performance mode I’m hoping the Pro will push 4K at 60fps.
I shall wait and see the results.
Here's how I see it: even though MS ports some former exclusives, we still have an awesome games lineup, we still get access day 1 on game pass and we still have the better ecosystem (for so many reasons.)
I'm cool with the ports, and I'm a consumer: if it ever makes more sense to get a PS I will, but I've had no reason to this gen. Xbox is killing it on the games front.
If Forsa horizon 5 is just coming to ps5 now, maybe a Forsa Horizon 6 is coming this year for pc/xbox.
Just a thought....
@Kaloudz I think the rage is because they can't see how the eco-system on dedicated Xbox hardware continues.
Fewer and fewer reasons to buy one with each release and eventually that means it won't be worth making consoles if that continues and people don't want that to happen.
@Elbow It is nigh, for the console. Sony's gonna have unrestrained control which is a horrible situation for everybody.
Except it's not... This has been the known move-sets of MS for a long while now. Xbox isn't buckling (not after spending tens of billions on acquisitions) they're clearly privy to the changes the market has and is going through and are one foot in front.
This isn't a shock. We all knew this was coming. They've practically painted it on the wall for us.
I hazard to guess Halo/Gears/Starfield might be saved for the rumored State of Play, but why not Forza? I imagine this’ll be good for business at MS. It’s a shame this is happening, but at the same time, this wouldn’t have happened if Xbox was doing better as a console-first ecosystem. Honestly, I think Xbox was trying to get these games on other ecosystems sooner, but having Gamepass as an option on Switch and PS
@Isolte why not both? They still need hardware as consoles to keep GP and revenues from current fanbase.
Following your logic - What preventing them to quit today, why doing hardware at all?
Future for everyone is cloud anyways and I dont see what stopping them to do hardware until then
It’s only a matter of time now for Halo and Gears. It is no longer a question of ‘if’ but rather ‘when’.
@Coletrain This is the approach I would like to see, as it's a win-win for consumers. I would hope that, if exclusive games do go multi-plat, that the Xbox release still has a period of exclusivity. If FH6 is announced this summer and released EoY or early '26, I would hope that it takes 2-3 years to come to other platforms
@Medic_alert But they also forget that traditional consoles (I'm fairly certain this was even highlighted during the FTC case) will inevitably be replaced by cloud gaming. In fact I recall many people here rightfully predicting consoles being a thing of the past within the next few generations. So, this would only be a step towards that outcome.
They've said for years now that they want to be the Netflix of games. I bet my nan that in 15 or so years, consoles are phased out and everything is digital with subscription services available on cloud and multiple devices - so it doesn't matter what plastic box someone buys. This is a right move for the ever evolving market.
Not only that, but not only is it good for the company and studios, but it's good for the games. If Halo MCC goes to Switch 2 and PS, a near ten year old collection, can you imagine the player spikes? I have friends that play on all three consoles. I love the idea of being able to play with them on these games.
@Daniel1221 it’s not just Jez, several leakers are saying the same things including MCC. This is who Xbox is now, and it makes good business sense, they haven’t sold enough consoles for the number of studios they have. Publishing on PS5 increases their potential console market by 222%.
@Kaloudz I never said Xbox was shutting down, but the console is absolutely going to suffer and see an accelerated death. We're the minority here, the average joe will see or hear that all of Xbox's games are on PlayStation and just go with that. "Gamepass? What's that? I can just get all this stuff on Playstation anyway so what does it matter?"
@Elbow if next xbox is supported by 3rd party like series s/x and 1st party like today with GP, it will be same. What control from Sony? Just play same 99% games on xbox and some of them on GP and miss out on couple of sony games.
I actually have trust in their hardware division as xbox one x and series x are the best pieces of console tech i ever owned. Phil said they gonna compete with features - lets see what they come up with.
Console warriors getting mad that other people get to play their "exclusives" is ridiculous. This goes the same for Sony fanboys that are mad when seemingly PS exclusives get ported over too.
But I do think there's a legitimate grievance for those of us who bought all 3 consoles. I got back into the Xbox fold, thinking that between my Series X, PS5, and Switch, I'd have exclusives on all three that'd keep me busy. Kind of like how it's always been.
I'll be honest: I saw this coming, which is why a few months ago I sold my Series X and picked up a Steamdeck. I figured between that and my PS5, I won't miss anything. I still like Xbox, I still like Xbox games, but I didn't need one more plastic box when it's not doing anything really unique. So in that sense, it was a bummer that I spent money getting into an ecosystem that eventually felt redundant as a multi-console user.
@Elbow exactly what I have been saying for awhile now. "Available on gamepass" isn't as big of a deal to most gamers and consumers as "only available on Xbox & PC" is. This is why gamepass has failed to slow down Playstation sales.
@Elbow um, you’re acting like sony hasn’t gone third party in some capacity so, stop acting like a downer
@Elbow I never said Xbox was shutting down, but the console is absolutely going to suffer and see an accelerated death. We're the minority here, the average joe will see or hear that all of Xbox's games are on PlayStation and just go with that. "Gamepass? What's that? I can just get all this stuff on Playstation anyway so what does it matter?"
Even the average joe knows what Game Pass is. Everyone and their dog knows what Game Pass is. That doesn't matter though. An extra sub or an extra copy-sale only profits the ecosystem.
I wager the average joe actually prefers the platform they choose because that's where their libraries and friends are, but that's just guesswork based on how I (a 20 year player) see it. But again, looking to the future, hardware as we know it will be non-existent. It will all be digital and service-cloud based. This hurts no one in the here and now. It only profits the studios we all love. That's not a bad thing.
@oopsiezz but there’s people who save money on a purchase
@Kaloudz I am really excited about next xbox. One x and series X were by far best consoles from hardware and OS standpoints.
I just wish it sells like series gen or slightly lower so MS and 3rd party support stays.
Since exclusivity is slowly dying out, Phil mentioned “competing with features” for next xbox. I hope they deliver. Actually have trust in their hardware team.
@Kaloudz right, pretty much people who knows what gamepass is, it’s not killing xbox in anyway
@donv2135 the majority of people have shown they would rather buy a Playstation than buy an Xbox for gamepass. Most gamepass subscribers are on console, by a wide margin, so the whole "you don't need a Xbox for gamepass" narrative really isn't sticking either.
@Isolte I think Microsoft is going to follow their Windows model.
Sure, they're more than happy to sell you a PC or a tablet. But what matters most to them? That you're using Windows and in their ecosystem.
I think similarly Xbox is going to make hardware, but their games will be everywhere. They don't care where you play, they just want you playing Xbox games. The Xbox hardware is just going to be there for people who want to buy a Microsoft device or get into the ecosystem in the easiest way possible.
Removed - trolling/baiting
@Isolte so you are trying to predict what happens after 8+ years or so? Is it a joke? In 4 years we saw biggest acquisitions in gaming industry, sony porting games to PC, xbox going multiplat, stadia releasing and dying, steam deck and rise of PC handhelds. Thats 4 years mate.
Yeah lets worry about what happens in 2033 or so.
Honestly, I’m not even mad or disappointed anymore, it’s just sad.
Horizon & Gran Turismo in one Platform I never thought I would see the day 😅 Everything is changing, let's see what the next console generation looks like and how Microsoft will try to sell it to everyone.
@donv2135 Exactly. Like I said above, people forget to look forward and quickly lose faith - like this is some sort of afront to their console honour.
@Millionski Me too. XSS is the best Xbox console that I've owned (I have owned them all) and with what MS has said about the next console (being the biggest leap ever and being feature competitive) I am massively excited.
Folks can lose faith all they like. MS, one of the worlds most profitable companies, know what they're doing... We're slowly moving towards a digital only world and hardware (as many here have said) will eventually phase out - leaving just cloud-based ecosystems and subscription services.
People be thinking Xbox is lagging when they're probably one step ahead. But as someone else said here, haters need purpose for their visits :/
Removed - unconstructive
Can someone explain to me why xbox cant be more niche than competitors?
There was only one point in time where xbox was a force to reckon in console space - 360 and it still technically lost to ps3.
Yeah average person buys PS but why you personally care if you have an option to buy xbox that does things different and has its own advantages and philosophy?
Here is an example: google pixel phone. Its a great device but inpopular compared to iphones/samsungs and such. But does it mean its bad? No and it provides an alternative
Removed - trolling/baiting
@IOI sad? You should be popping shampaigne mate
@Isolte ok. The main prediction is pc and cloud. Start worrying about PS/N then
I was buying xbox for xbox games, now xbox has no its own games, it only has gamepass day one games, do we still need new xbox and why, if we can play it all on pc or playstation, yes someone could say, you can play it cheap, but xbox is loosing its identity as console to get. I think this is end of xbox as hardware, maybe ms will make new xbox, but howmany people will buy it, people whoi are in heart with xbox as console with its own identity
I hope the Playstation folks enjoy FH5. While I personally am a bit bored with open world racers in general this one is up there with the best and well worth your time if you like them.
@Bronnoe I think not many people care about identity nowadays
honestly, Phil said we will be seeing more of this, if you don’t like you can go to a another platform if you want to
@Millionski Xbox has already been struggling to keep third party devs.
https://www.purexbox.com/news/2024/10/xbox-wants-more-feedback-from-devs-including-why-some-are-avoiding-the-platform
@donv2135
With very select games, (their MLB game was mandated to be on every system or the license holder would walk, and the Lego Horizon game is suggested to be a similar situation since Lego didn't just want one of their branded games on one system.) — I know Sony have been porting all of their games to PC, yes, and it's a good thing they're doing so, but it hasn't really hurt console sales.
Let me know when you see them port games of their own volition to Xbox, and not due to a licensing demand. For the record I would be happy to be proven wrong since this is a sucky situation, but I don't see PlayStation doing anything like this unless they're quite literally already kneeling in the guillotine.
"and you’re based on that what sony ponies would say" I don't know what you mean with this though. I haven't owned a Playstation since the PS3 and despise Sony's choices in the last few years.
@Bronnoe but xbox is loosing its identity
Xbox are not losing their identity. Simply redefining it.
So PS fans have about 2.5 years before it's delisted?
@Isolte i agree, we should just play games on our preferred platform, and it’s clear that xbox is still doing hardware, so unless they say otherwise, we shouldn’t get worked up everytime
@Elbow People disapproved that article a long time ago
@oopsiezz They don't need to. They aren't desperate.
@Elbow I know Sony have been porting all of their games to PC, yes, and it's a good thing they're doing so, but it hasn't really hurt console sales.
Let me know when you see them port games of their own volition to Xbox
Both Xbox and PS will be competing for dominance in the PC space, hence all the PC ports. It's less about hurting consoles and more about furthering sales and reach for both.
They also don't need to port to Xbox right now, because they have market dominance (this has almost always been the case) but that doesn't mean that they wont full-stop outside of MLB and Lego Horizons.
Either way, look ten years in the future. We (as many here have said, as well as analysts) may not even have a hardware anymore. Just a stick or an app that gives us access to the ecosystem or subscription service of choice. That future kinda makes moves like this, smart.
@donv2135 Next GEN Xbox will sell at Wii U numbers or worse. Then the support will end especially from 3rd party devs. After that your library will start to suffer.
@Elbow can you name 5 more or less known games that skipped xbox except Wukong and megaman collectiion from capcom?
3rd party only obviously.
@Browntrouser don’t act like you know the future
@Isolte then you dont care about xbox since at least 2017.
And future for all these companjes is in cloud.
Not sure what we are arguing about then lol
@Millionski Right @Elbow, tell us how many third party games skipped Xbox, besides Wukong and Games Sony or Nintendo got deals for,
@Isolte would happily build a PC but just dont have energy to sit after work in front of computer.
Yes i know I can connect PC to my TV in living room but i simply dont have space for that and user experience is not that seamless.
I would definitely consider steam machiens if they come back
@Browntrouser also we don’t know what could happen in the future, if you so fixed on the idea that console sales are the only measure of success, go over to playstation
@Kaloudz we will see. Do you envisage that each platform will simply be a store front or an app then?
Because they will still need a walled off eco-system of some sort or they won't get the billions from their 30% cut - if indeed that still exists.
It will be interesting to see if the public pick up on the subs model over the current one because so far they haven't and I don't currently believe they will. There will always be problems with streaming and my tolerance for it is certainly not there, whether others will get past that remains to be seen.
It's quite something that people are still spending energy complaining about this. It's not going to change anything. I for one think it's a good thing that more people will get to play Forza Horizon 5 and the other rich experiences Xbox has to offer.
Regardless of opinions, its still a bit weird to see isnt it.
Forza Horizon 5 was released in 2021, 4 years later on playstation. Do you think a player is willing to wait 4 years to play a game?
What is the purpose of an exclusive game? To attract players to its ecosystem (gamepass or consoles or both, ....)! For it to work, this exclusivity period must be frustrating enough to push a player to go to your ecosystem. I think that from 1 to 2 years, it's sufficiently frustrating to push a player who wants to play this game to go to your ecosystem.
So, a long enough temporary exclusivity has the same positive effect (or almost) as a permanent exclusivity.
But does a permanent exclusivity exist? Who can today, on this industry situation, say that an exclusivity will be permanent? Even PlayStation can't, especially given the direction they are taking.
It's fine that Forza Horizon 5 comes out on PlayStation. The game has reached its potential and has done its job of attracting players to Xbox.
I think we won't have to wait long to hear about the release of Forza Horizon 6. And that is very smart:
- The new revenues from Forza Horizon 5 will help amortize the development costs of Forza Horizon 6.
- It will help introduce the franchise to PlayStation players and make them want to play the sequel, knowing that FH6 won't be released on other platforms right away. It would create frustration and push players towards the Xbox ecosystem (Game Pass on PC and/or Xbox consoles).
So it's a very good move !
1.Yes There will be more Xbox games on Nintendo and PlayStation
2.No. It won't be all Xbox games
3.Many games will launch on Xbox first, and then MS will decide if they port them to other consoles OR NOT
4.the biggest exclusive is still the gamepass
@donv2135 72m ps5's sold and 85% of gamepass subscribers are on console. Both numbers can be googled for easy accessibility if you're looking. But sure let's go with "what ponies said"
Removed - trolling/baiting
@LostInBlue0 right, all the complaining from fans all around the world is not going to get them to change their minds, besides they don’t seem to feel that consoles wouldn’t be threatened too much
@Daniel1221 yeah I like the timed exclusivity strategy tbh, but only for games where it makes sense. You wouldn't want it for a COD but for Indy, I think it'll absolutely smash sales on ps5
@oopsiezz you probably took it from the first set of numbers you saw
@AndroidBango i agree it’s reactions like these i think it’s too much
@EvenStephen7 I hear you. For me, owning an Xbox Series X makes sense because I have a large digital library on it and many of those games are backwards compatible and or have enhancements that I can't get on other platforms. It's well worth it to me, niche though my use case may be. I did buy a Switch and PS5 and have a mid-range gaming PC to play games on as well. I get something out of all of these platforms. But I can understand why many people would sell their Series console.
@Isolte if you grew up in the console wars, it feels weird
@Isolte I base myself on reality, not speculations. Sea of Thieves, another service game, was also released 4-5 years later on PS! Xbox will prioritize Xbox players, that's what they do and that's what they've always done. So facts against speculations, we'll see who is right, but for now, I'm right until proven otherwise (if the opposite happens one day).
@donv2135 Be my guest to look it up for yourself. Or continue being ignorant and sticking your head in the the sand pretending like it's not real I really don't care. Fact remains most consumers are choosing Playstation and to purchase their games over Xbox and Gamepass. Simple as that.
@oopsiezz there are facts that prove the opposite is true, just saying, you don’t want to look them up, because you don’t accept that you could be wrong
forza horion 6 is coming, it's a sign ! and will not be right away on playstation. Those who think that, we know very well who they are lol.
Removed - flaming/arguing
An Xbox staple on PS. I expect this game to come to Switch 2 as well. Now you may say you don’t care about exclusivity but do exclusives sell consoles? Yes. So if you give away your exclusives, would more people buy your console or not? And if the console doesn’t sell well, you’re at risk of losing 3rd party support. So if 3rd party games start skipping Xbox, don’t be surprised.
@Medic_alert we will see. Do you envisage that each platform will simply be a store front or an app then?
Absolutely. Look at other digital markets and they can be traced back to hardware. VHS > DVD > Subscription Services. Tapes > CD > Music Services. Games are going the exact same route. It's a matter of when, not if. 110%.
Because they will still need a walled off eco-system of some sort or they won't get the billions from their 30% cut - if indeed that still exists.
That can still exist once the hardware is out the window and we are all digital. Think how easier it will be to swap ecosystems without the need for buying expensive hardware.
It will be interesting to see if the public pick up on the subs model over the current one because so far they haven't and I don't currently believe they will. There will always be problems with streaming and my tolerance for it is certainly not there, whether others will get past that remains to be seen.
In its current form, no. But ten years down the road? When it's been refined and fine tuned, fifteen years down the road? Absolutely. There will be a hardware gen next gen, and one the gen after. After that? I highly doubt it. This also removes the fact that consoles tend to sell at a loss - costing more money than they're worth. It's a win win future.
Yes they said about making an Xbox next generation console.
But they have not really said what form it is taking it what worries me.
It could be a full power under the TV home console.
It could be only a handheld.
It could be a weaker switch hybrid.
It could be under the tv streaming box or console that needs cloud to get the best from it.
That is the worry behind the maybe Xbox next generation console, they are being very candid about it as well.
And does anyone really trust anything Microsoft say about Xbox hardware.
@Coletrain 100%
@Isolte I don’t think it’s worth discussing here any further, some people refuse to listen to arguments and immediately jump to call us fanboys, I understand everyone is frustrated but if anything that frustration should be addressed to Microsoft not between users.
@Isolte yeah I upset about these constant conversations and people pretending we are still somehow in early 2010s.
I upset people just focus on negativity and on xbox mainly forum it filled with trolls and haters.
I accepted the fact games are going to other platforms so this news was not a surprise.
I own all consoles so in the end of the day I am fine.
@Isolte I think Microsoft has been trying to make Xbox and PC gaming basically the same thing. Turning Xbox into a 3'rd party publisher is a big part of that, and I think the Xbox hardware will just be an alternative to a gaming PC. It seems like traditional consoles just aren't what they used to be anyways.
@IOI that’s something i agree with, not everyone is willing to have a reasonable conversation about something, if you feel frustrated too, tell it to microsoft and move one with our lives, if you keep talking about it everyday afterwards, then you probably have a problem
Removed - flaming/arguing
@fatpunkslim I mean this would be a good tactic if you ignore the fact it's an older game being ported and a brand new game, Indiana jones, is releasing on PS within 6 months of launching.
I kinda think that they won't be holding them for years anymore.
@Isolte Microsoft is going to make a BUTTLOAD of money.
There. Spun.
That great. Means more people can enjoy this great game.
Well when I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I would gather from this announcement then that a Forza Horizon 6 isn't coming for a good few years yet.
Great game, hope PS5 players enjoy it.
I really hope the other side understand why after they play it we were upset that it didn’t even get a nom ah the game awards. Truly one of the best racers.
Removed - flaming/arguing
@Millionski Why are you so mad at me? I didn’t design Microsoft baffling plans, I just don’t agree with them and unlike you I’ve been saying that since the very beginning.
@Weebleman Indiana Jones is not a good example, it's a Disney license that was already planned to be multiplatform before the acquisition, as confirmed by the FTC. Xbox insisted that the game be temporarily exclusive. Sea of Thieves is more comparable because it's also a GAAS, like FH5, and it was released 4 or 5 years later, after reaching its full potential.
Removed - flaming/arguing
@Kaloudz when you mention swapping eco-systems you do realise that that is exactly what the platform holders don't want though?
As for this continued assertion that streaming will one day be good enough to replace native gaming, I find it hard to believe.
You will always have lag because you have a picture beamed to you, then you have your reaction time and then the input you make has to be beamed back to the server and the picture of that happening back to you again. That cannot ever be as quick as a device that is hardwired in 6 feet away - unless we are getting into the realm of true quantum computing where every possibility is calculated in a moment and therefore every possibility is available even before you have done it.... but that's not happening at this level in our life time.
One less reason to buy Xbox I reckon.
@fatpunkslim It's a very good example. As you said many times before the PS port was announced, its an xbox studio game. A new xbox studio game.

@Medic_alert cloud streaming can already feel nearly native, I've used GeForce now ultimate and the higher bitrate it has over xCloud is the difference maker. But the game selection is limited, and for your money you just get the cloud experience, not the games.
MS has a massive opportunity here, if they have the infrastructure to support it. It's very hit and miss, but they're not as far off as you think.
Obviously I'll always prefer native though, rather my hard drive control my experience than my internet connection.
@Isolte I don't buy that at all though.
I agree we are likely to be more picky but for some games streaming is pretty much unusable.
Maybe games like dark souls will become more forgiving to allow for lag and signals more consistent so progress is such a game wouldn't be lost? Maybe.
It is totally sub-optimal and I think for a long time yet to come always will be because unlike movies and music etc the unpredictability of playing a game means there can be no buffering in advance and so disruption is always possible.
I may be wrong, technology ends up doing mind blowing things but this seems almost beyond possibility to me.
@Weebleman You don't understand, the contract was already signed for the game to be multiplatform, it's a Disney license, they have their requirements, Xbox doesn't really have a say in it. Moreover, Indiana Jones has never been exclusive before, unlike SOT or FH5, so it's definitely a bad example.
@Coletrain I've not used Geforce. That said i sold my portal because I could still feel the difference and that was in my own living room.
As I say, maybe I'm wrong. It has been known and I am prepared to accept that some of my views are influenced by the fact it isn't what I want - i have particular issues over lack of ownership and environmental damage here.
I should have gotten a PS4 and gone back to Sony in 2014
@fatpunkslim if they didn't have a say in it due to contractuable agreements, how did they insist it be delayed and change the agreement?
@Medic_alert oh yeah sorry, I've a vague memory of you having this debate on cloud gaming last year. I guess from the technical point of view all I'm thinking is you can't stop latency, even on a native setup you get it from the wireless controller, and the TV/monitor. It's more about perceptible latency. Crazy that you can feel it on the portal, you must be quite sensitive to it!
But yeah, the environmental side of it isn't my forté. I thought you had quite a compelling view on it last time though.

@Isolte oh yes of course. It's like the audiophile who 'needs' vinyl for the authenticity, or the PC gamer that will trade a 4090 for a 5090 to squeeze that little extra out their machine - they are a tiny minority and most can't tell the difference.
I just think that will be more limited with games and certain games are going to be really problematic on streaming regardless of your standards.
But maybe those games will just vanish and things that work for that system will be normal.
@LostInBlue0 I appreciate that — I was a little nervous to share my experience. And I totally get why you're holding onto your Xbox too. My digital library was very small (and mostly backwards compat titles) so that was definitely a factor; I'd probably not have left if I had a huge library built up.
I guess this is a great example of what Xbox is aiming for. We have different platforms, and different use cases in our gaming habits, but we're both still enjoying Xbox games.
@Coletrain thanks. I can't remember honestly.
I type so much junk on here from time to time I may have said something profound on the subject once upon a time. Haha!
@Isolte remember that those casuals are going to be playing CoD. The lag is noticeable even to people who just play that kind of game.
@Weebleman "Lol, you're definitely teasing, let's say they found a compromise, they split the difference, it's not ideal but it's better than nothing and it satisfies both parties!
@Isolte good for you mate. At least you will have them as long as they last for.
I have recently started building my cd collection again because I had forgotten the joy of listening to a whole album because of Spotify.
What I'd really like though is a stereo unit with recordable mini-disc unit in it, (a) because of my nostalgia and (b) because I loved making the digital mix 'tapes'!
@fatpunkslim i think it's fair to say there was no compromise. It's a Disney ip as you say, so disney would need to be involved in the contract change to facilitate a compromise.
That wasn't a tease, genuine question. How did they change the contract if it was already agreed?
@Isolte what do you think about a one year exclusive for all games, I’m good with timed exclusives but I think Xbox should make it clear that all games go over but at a certain time, a case to case basis just makes it all more confusing
@Isolte I love a good vinyl. We sound of a similar age from your other comments. Nothing beats the crackle of a good record.
@Isolte couldn't agree more. My 9 year daughter started playing guitar this term and it has prompted me to start looking for stuff she might enjoy.
So I recently looked up console sales and what's interesting is how little exclusives actually have mattered historically. Just ask Nintendo. The WiiU had the exclusives and sold 13 million units. Actually Nintendo home consoles had been trailing down since the 80s with the NES (the last Nintendo home console to break 50m until the Wii). All of their home consoles had the exclusives and standard hardware, but what actually ended up winning them sales has always just been unique consumer hardware (the Gameboy and DS handhelds, Wii, and now the Switch). Xbox Series Sales also get talked about a LOT when they're pretty much just mediocre. After 4 years they're somewhere between 25m and 30m, which is about where you'd expect judging by not just their own history but the history of the whole console market (which is REALLY hard to succeed in even for the big 3). Breaking 50m is surprisingly rare, breaking 100m is a milestone, and breaking 150m is the crown (currently only obtained by 3 consoles (the PS2, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo Switch)).
I'm not understanding the existential crisis gamers are having or why media continues to paint this as a bad thing. Exclusives are becoming a thing of the past. Sony's own third party parties publicly have said as much, and we've seen more formerly exclusive PS games port and launch day one on Xbox than Xbox even has exclusives to lose. Heck, Sony was FORCED to make their first party developed and published MLB the Show multiplatform AND support a day one Game Pass release for like 4 years (every year it's been multiplatform save this one). Sony as a business are allowed to do whatever they want, but they are the ones ignoring the evolving industry and sticking their heads in sand, and the walls are cracking around them. They've burnt money on live service projects that keep failing (save Helldivers 2). They're seeing shrinking margins and have massively turned down output for their first party games. Their third party partners have publicly abandoned them and spoken out against doing console exclusives. The fact that their direct competition is dominating their digital storefront is NOT GOOD. Sony knows this. Forza Horizon 5 directly cuts into the player base for GT7. GT7 as in the game Playstation completely funds and earns 100% of the money money from. Forza they get a 30% cut of and that's it. They don't want their gamers to play Forza over GT7. Xbox is building a dominat presence on PlayStation with first party at a time when they have more games on their own platform than ever and Sony has lost more exclusives than ever. Xbox console sales are slightly worse than Xbox One, but that likely isn't attributed to a single reason (Xbox pushing less upgrades from Xbox One, Xbox not doing a mid gen refresh, Xbox on PC, a lack of marketing, Xbox on cloud, Xbox Multiplatform push) and despite all those reasons, Xbox console sales are still doing pretty good. They're the definition of just Okay. Failure looks like the WiiU (13 million sales in five years... like How even?) or GameCube for that matter. However, on top of "okay" console sales them expanding has grown Xbox overall. They're making a lot of money off of PlayStation gamers, they're making a lot off of PC gamers, and they still have plans to make money off of cloud only and mobile gamers (well more off of mobile). In comparison, Sony continues to clutch onto their traditional strategy and what has their result been? Slightly better sales than the PS4 (well sales trend as in at this time; they're still like halfway to the PS4's total sales)? Most of those sales are upgrades and now at least some of them will be Pro upgrades.
The console market is failing to grow. Nintendo answered the problem by making their hardware more unique and controlling costs all around. Xbox has answered by overall expanding in every direction they can. Sony has answered by raising prices, making their hardware more like a PC, and continuing to push big budget exclusives which despite the awards they win can't make new gamers (not nearly enough) buy a PS console. They're also porting "some" games inconsistently too PC, but it's this weird mid area. They've ported enough that we all know everything is going over (so the exclusives lie is gone for them), but port so inconsistently they can't reap the most benefit from sales when hype is the highest. I remember not even being aware GOW Ragnorak came to PC; I just saw it on Steam one day.
If Xbox is "giving up" then what is Sony doing? Embalming their corpse? We can at least say Xbox has first party games to decide whether to make multiplatform or not. Sony's own first party output this generation has been a water drip. That's when they aren't releasing a live service that's dead on arrival. I've seen them in the headlines way too much just about yet another canceled live service game they dumped millions into. I'm also just genuinely not getting why gamers care about exclusives going away? Xbox isn't dying as a console and libraries are more protected on Xbox than any other console platform (Nintendo and Sony don't even have free cloud saves) and further future proofed with Play Anywhere. We're in an age where gamers have the most choice to buy and play games where they want and I dint see that as a negative. While console warriors are squabbling Steam is really coming to come in a bulldoze it all. It's crazy because consoles remain so niche and I'm just saying the majority of the sane world is AGAINST being forced to buy something to enjoy XYZ content.
The only thing of note I really take from this is "cool more gamers can buy and support this great game" and "wow so Forza Horizon 6 is probably further off than we thought, if they're doing a new port four years after release."
Ya, there's a new Sega in town. Pretty soon we're going to have a 2 console market.
@Isolte a man who knows 😂. 45 here (for another month or two anyway). Not to much of a gap.
@Isolte I'm sure mine will be too. But that's because I'm s**te and only really taught myself to impress girls at parties!
Crazy news, but i have no problem with this.
@Isolte Yes, we should. I might get a PC instead of a ps6 but its so easy with consoles though compared to PCs, so we’ll see…
Oh dear Goodness… those poor PlayStation folk will have to endure the endless tales of Papa Fernando now. Turn off dialogue and save your sanity 👍🏻
Great game, hope the PlayStation audience enjoy it! 🇲🇽 🚘
@Kaloudz Could be worth joining Xbox Era too for another Xbox community that's less doom and gloom - since you left last time I've been on there more as the drive bys from Push and the drama on every bit of news was dragging me down (and I was even worrying about Xbox, got calmed down over there).
I've upgraded my PC now so I've got a decent one to play everybody's games on (realising I've not missed much since I dropped PlayStation at 4, not really enjoyed many of their exclusives on PC) but still loving my Xbox for GP and pick up and play.
Guess it helps to give me perspective on this - Forza Horizon is one of my favourite series ever, and I completely agree I'm glad for more people to play it particularly as it's a joyous festival of fun - PlayStation players need that with their first party games often being misery simulators
Thinking Switch 2 will get it too - and for those worrying just think of it as PlayStation and Nintendo fans helping to pay for our GP games!
Does it mean more money for games, @Prestige-worldwide? Just how much, I wonder, once the shareholders have staked their claim as they clawback the money they fronted for the ABK acquisition. You'd like to think this means more money for games, but it could just as easily be cash used to plug the holes in a sinking ship...
As long as Ultimate Gamepass stays the same I will stay with Microsoft. It can only be a good thing when Microsoft will be making multi millions more than they were for exactly the same games, I can see a nice cut of that going into the Gamepass kitty.
Starfield next then maybe halo mcc… I moved back to Xbox 2 years ago and loved it. But I only have 1 console and I’ll choose the next one I can play most games on. Ps exclusives are great. What a shame for Xbox. With console sales down the end is nigh. If they think this will push to pc and I did move to it… I’d be on steam anyway not Xbox store
@Tasuki Care to explain how I'm a troll for showing concern over my preferred system manufacturer accelerating their demise in the space?
@Kaloudz Ten years in the future is actually an argument I make fairly frequently but against it. The idea of my library being held hostage behind a subscription fee when or if they phase out consoles is such an incredibly unappealing idea. No company is going to give you access to your library to stream for free, and having what I've already paid for held hostage behind a scenario like this is where I cannot abide.
You are absolutely right, @Kaloudz, we can or have played the game on the Xbox. However, now that is one more reason to own a PlayStation, and one fewer reason to buy an Xbox.
Think about it;
Hi-Fi Rush, a legitimate Game of the Year contender, and a genuine reason to own an Xbox, now on the PlayStation. Same with Penitent, a smaller game, yes, but it was unique to the Xbox. Not any more.
Both Grounded, and Sea of Thieves, attracted tens of thousands of players, maybe many, many more. They were exclusive, and now they're not.
Another Game of the Year contender, Indiana Jones, on the PlayStation this Spring, to be joined by one of the Xbox tentpole games, in Forza, that gave an experience you could not find on the PlayStation, and which was thus a racer that literally attracted people into the Xbox ecosystem. Now no longer exclusive to the Xbox. And what does this mean for FH6? Day one? Maybe a short period of exclusivity, and then over to the PlayStation, where it will be patiently awaited by the PlayStation gamer because they literally have no reason to buy an Xbox in order to play it.
Now, you can argue that Xbox still has plenty of games not available on the Xbox, and that would be true, but not only does Xbox now have 6 fewer exclusives, but these are genuine signals to gamers that there are no boundaries for Microsoft. Any and likely every new game will probably make the transition to the PlayStation, and the periods of exclusivity available on the Xbox will dwindle to nothing, just as it did with the PC, and within a couple of years from now, every game will launch simultaneously on both consoles. Then will follow an exodus of gamers to the PlayStation, the one thing that everyone seems to herald as the saviour of the Xbox (Game Pass) will cease to exist in its current form, becoming something that only offers first-party games (if it doesn't cease altogether), and then Microsoft will have no need to remain in the console business (mostly because no one will be buying them, something that has already been very evident in recent years).
Ultimately, why would you want to own an Xbox when you can play all these games on the PlayStation as well as the many hundreds that you will only find on the PlayStation already? Just look when Xbox announces a sale each week; where Xbox says they have 300 games on sale, PlayStation offer 1000. Why? They already have far more games, and the size of the userbase on the PlayStation means that they are offered far more games during a sale.
Time and time again we see people say it doesn't matter, the game is old, we've played it, it's still on the Xbox. And yes, one game makes no odds, but it isn't one game, it is several, and now it is one of the big three. So yes, it does matter. It matters a great deal...
@Fiendish-Beaver you are absolutely correct. Baffles me how a lot of people don’t quite understand this. I would also like to mention that 3rd party for Xbox will dwindle if more Xbox players jump ship to PlayStation or PC which lead to lower player base on Xbox consoles.
@Elbow Xbox hardware has been cratering for months and months though, and it was known to be transitioning to Microsoft Gaming, a third-party publisher.
@fatpunkslim Soon they will all be coming out on Playstation day one.
@Widey85 second joining Xboxera, thoroughly entertaining podcasts.
@Fiendish-Beaver if Xbox follows the traditional console model then yes, the hardware is more or less doomed. Not for me personally, I'd still enjoy it, but it won't beat PS that way obviously. That's why I'm hoping for a "PC under the TV" experience from Prime.
Lord knows the big drawback of PC gaming is sitting at a desk, or using wireless mini keyboards to set things up on the TV. Rather have a controller with an easy interface to steam, epic, gog etc.
The end of an era..
@NattyKing Yeah, and this will accelerate that death. I'm not saying that like it's a good thing, but Phil Spencer stepped in dog crap and wiped it all over Xbox with his choices over the last few years.
(Edit: yes this is hyperbolic to an extent, he's pushed great things like backwards compatibility and play anywhere, but these are few and far between. Edit 2: fixed the last word of the original message, my phone turned it into mush?? Sorry about that)
@NintendoByNature Its not a matter whether Halo or Gears of War will go multiplatform or not, its WHEN will it happen now.
Removed - flaming/arguing
Ohhhh panic button nice
@Tasuki I mean there's 30+ year history of said company existing in a hardware space in multiple mediums: the first tablet in the 90s, the iPod competitor Zune, their own phone devices, and 24+ years of gaming hardware and accessories set to continue for at least several years. It's not entirely correct to say they're a pure software company.
That doesn't stop you from playing there, no, but you and I don't count. Think about it from a normal person's perspective, the people that don't go on sites like these. Do they buy the Xbox which is on the decline and has no exclusives and regularly getting PR black eyes because they have a fetish for tripping over themselves, the PlayStation which is far ahead and known for their first party games and is now also getting Xbox games, or even Nintendo which has the same argument as playstation?
It's not a console war thing, it's not wanting to see a competitor fall and give Sony or Nintendo more room to dictate how things should be done. EVERYONE loses if one of the consoles dies. If the PlayStation went under, it would be just as bad. If Nintendo went under, it would be just as bad. There's no fanboying here, sorry to dissapoint.
Edit: I changed the start of this post because it came off waaay too snarky and I didn't mean to, I apologize.
@Tasuki those people are just mad cause they couldn't play sonic on their super Nintendo
Joking ofcourse.
But this is the first time I can recall a first party going multi plat while maintaining their hardware lineup and planning a successor
Sega, 3d0 both went from first the third and abandoned their hardware shortly after that's the model everyone knows.
The issue I think many people have is the fear that the xsx and xss people have invested in will be forgotten about and Microsoft will simply abandon them only a few years into their lifecycle.
By all accounts that's not happening but try telling that to someone who had a Dreamcast back in the day and not feeling like they got their money's worth.
@anoyonmus exactly what I'm thinking
@Kaloudz as long as core MS franchises (gears, Halo etc) get a nice console exclusivity period ( 1 or 2 years) I couldn’t care less.
Releasing day and date on ps5 would finish their hardware business but with an exclusivity period I don’t think it’ll effect hardware sales that much.

The end of the world was January of last year. Everything that has happened since then, with the exception of closing Tango, was so easily predicted that it doesn't even make you raise an eyebrow. Anyone freaking out about this, or when Gears goes, or when Halo goes, I just can't believe the denial they've been living in. I mean some of it is stupid, like announcing the Indiana Jones PS5 date before the Xbox holiday release, but not surprising. If anything is surprising it's that we haven't hit the "everything is day 1 on Playstation" phase yet, which is absolutely coming soon.
@DaddyDuder I can't see them not doing day 1 for other systems I think the main advantage they are pushing will be along the lines of play day 1 with your gamepass sub only in Xbox hardware as PS and Nintendo won't offer that.
If their last few years is anything to go buy they seem to care less about where you play as long as you play and they want to be in as many places as possible as soon as possible PC console phone etc which one doesn't matter.
But I wish they would launch gamepass for Google TV already
Idk if this really is “the end of Xbox as we know it” like ppl are making it out to be…but i guess time will tell how well these decisions age
RIP Gran Turismo. The best racing game is in town!
If they bring it to Switch 2, how will they even get it to work assuming Switch 2 doesn’t have analog triggers?
Spring 2025 for PS5 = Switch 2 launch title.
Now that is an interesting place to play it.
@Elbow. As long as you have PCs Sony and Nintendo aren't going to dictate the market and if Microsoft stops making consoles someone else will be there. Did Sony and Nintendo dictate the market when Sega left? This whole Doom and gloom for MS putting a game on another console is over exaggerated.
@Isolte another recent to the hobby record collector here 🙏
Hopefully it sells well they are getting the best racing game around!
Haven’t read the comments but I’m sure nobody is getting wildly upset over a 2021 Xbox game getting a PS5 port in 2025
@Kaloudz **Xbox are not losing their identity. Simply redefining it.**
Xbox has no identity to redefine. its just another 3rd party publisher, thats all.
This will sell gang busters on PS5. MS are diluting the Xbox brand into oblivion but they’re sure making a ***** ton of cash while doing it.
Crazy times.
What MS really really wants, is to become a game publisher and make Game Pass available on PS. As long as MS and PS is competitors that will never happen.
.... but if they only were game publisher, then....
As long there exists Xbox game controllers that works on PS and I can buy Game Pass I will be happy. Whenever I buy something, I will certainly miss Play Anywhere.
Anyway. Xbox will become PC at some point. Xbox console will rather be a third party device like Handhelds etc, with a OS provided by MS.
@Kaloudz "Either way, look ten years in the future. We (as many here have said, as well as analysts) may not even have a hardware anymore. Just a stick or an app that gives us access to the ecosystem or subscription service of choice. That future kinda makes moves like this, smart."
thats the dumbest thing i’ve ever read. Analysts have been saying consoles will die since more than 2 decades. 2 decades later we still here and strong. Even Valve is launching a steam console, nintendo switch is 2nd best selling console of all time. PS5 is outpacing PS4. Its only XSX|S consoles which are dying miserably. even worse than XBONE
xbox just keeps moving their goalposts and fanboys like you bite the bait cos you cant think for yourself. They said 8 years ago gamepass is the future, music and movies are subscription model so games will follow, netflix for gsmes, BILLIONS of potential userbase from pc, mobile, console and cloud blah blah literally said by Phil & Satya. And what hsppened, Gamepass missed targets years in a row. Microsoft removes Game Pass subscriber growth as a KPI for Satya Nadella in October 2023. Gamepass is stuck at 30 million and thats AFTER adding LiveGold subs. It is less than NSO (34million) and PS+ (48million) eventhough Gamepass is available for BILLIONS of potential gamers on PC, Mobile, Cloud and Console. By 2025 they expected Gamepass to have 200million subs, see the FTC Leaks. So Gamepass is a DISASTER.
Lemme tell you what the future is of xbox .. NOTHING. It will just be another 3rd party publisher like Sega. Look at what happened to Google Stadia and Amazon and Netflix, these 3 are behemoths in cloud technology and online software ecosystems and they ALL bailed on Gaming industry, And you think a company who has been failing miserably for decades, even after $100billion funding (which is around the market cap of Sony and Nintendo itself) will change anything. No it will end up a disaster just like gamepass and series s.
Oh i forgot to mention, remember how when ps5 vs XSX|S was launching, every 'analyst' and game industry people and xbox fanboys were saying "series s will sell more than ps5 its the perfect machine, its cheap, well made, has gamepass and its the BEST value for casuals!!!" and flash forward to now, series consoles undersold xbone consoles by MILLIONS launch aligned. GOTY Baldurs Gate 3, GOTY Wukong skipped xbox cos series s. Its a disaster. This is the future of xbox.
Lastly — PlayStation, Steam, Nintendo, Google and Apple these are the 5 platforms where they ALL have 1 million selling games atleast once a year. When was the last time a game sold 1 million units on xbox store on console or PC?
A long time ago is the answer.
1/2
@Kaloudz
Perfect example is Palworld which was console exclusive for xbox. All 12 million units from Steam itself, almost nothing sold from xbox stores even though it was on 'Gamepass. What does that tell you, it tells you even though xbox PAID for gamepass of palworld, STEAM took all the sales. Palworld didnt increase xbox store sales nor it massively increased subs.
that tells you xbox is ALWAYS dependent on other ecosystems to fund gamepass and to even survive by itself (without Daddy MSFT bailing out another $100B)
So whatever nonsense PR bait xbox comes up for fanboys like you, its crystal clear they’re helpless and dont know what they’re doing. All they know for sure is, they’re a 3rd party publisher. You can’t have a future when you dont even have your own ecosystem and have to rely on the 5 ecosystems (PlayStation, Steam, Nintendo, Google and Apple) for survival. The only possible future for xbox is a 3rd party publisher, rest all is a smokescreen PR bait nonsense just like Gamepass and series s which were going to be monumental but ended up a damp squid.

hello, what's happening here? just passing by 😉
jokes aside: I only what to say that MS is mainly a software company so...
Glad to see this. It's a really fun game, and with Cross Play that means I could play with some of my Playstation owning friends.
I'm happy to see them not focussing on exclusive games and walled gardens. Games should be on as many platforms as possible and allow for as free cross play as possible. the console makers should compete on price, features, and capability not exclusive titles that would run better on other platforms.
Not to fussed about this as it’s a 4 year old game at this point and at least it’s not Forza motorsport so it’s not a direct competitor to grand turismo.
All we need now is some playstion games on Xbox. Maybe last of us or horizon perhaps? It’s definitely possible given the new leadership change at Sony 👀
As a multi platform gamer who has always preferred the Xbox I am saddened by this as it is clearly signalling the end times of the current platform. Yeah everything may go cloud anyway but I feel MS have jumped too soon. The sales and therefore support of the next console (if it happens) will be pitiful. Perhaps a PC with an Xbox mode could work, maybe a handheld version, but yeah it's done as we know it. Expect gaming to get more expensive under a greedy Sony without direct competition...
I’ve enjoyed every Xbox generation since the OG, it has been my primary platform, and prefer the controller, achievements and the whole ecosystem in general. I guess I now have to consider my XSX and XSS as legacy retro devices that I play my massive digital library on. That library better stay accessible for free and not put behind a streaming subscription paywall. I think I should download my entire digital library to USB harddrives/SSDs just in case, they can sit happily in a drawer as a back up.
@JetmanUK
What MS really really wants, is to become a game publisher and make Game Pass available on PS. As long as MS and PS is competitors that will never happen, but if they only were game publisher, then....
Anyway. Xbox will become PC at some point. Xbox console will rather be a third party device like Handhelds etc, with a OS provided by MS - so you will never loose the Xbox feel but the games will be accessible more places.
@Isolte let them have Forza motorsport, at least PlayStation players have to pay full price instead of playing it via gamepass.
Once I see that gamepass has gone to PlayStation, I’ll believe into the Xbox console aspect is dead.
@Kaloudz I would agree MS are trying to redefine their identity hence the everything is an Xbox campaign. However I think they have forgotten that the brand identity is not what you say it is, its what the consumers view it as. Right now I can't see them being able to convince people xbox no longer means the hardware when thats exactly what its meant for 23 years.
@Fiendish-Beaver As things progress I would say its going to be more likely that games will be day and date on all consoles. Xbox lost last gen and that has trickled down into an abyssmal showing for them this gen. 32 million units is nothing to scoff at, but MS themselves will not be happy with those numbers.
As the gap continues to widen I think it will be a very hard sell to explain to shareholders why you are making titles like FH6 available to 12% of your potential market on day one. Its not going to convince people to swap platform, it will only risk losing initial sales whilst titles are still hot.
@Fiendish-Beaver it does matter 100%. But it’s basically done at this point. Every new release will be on Playstation (even after a small delay like we will see with Avowed and South of Midnight). We all just need to wrap our heads round it.
I personally don’t like it. It’s a privileged point of view but I love the idea of buying each of the big 3 and enjoying each of their exclusives. If all the games are on one console, that to me is - lot less exciting.
Going to be a sad day when PureXbox gets merged with TimeExtension.
Also I just want to say that I think what really is pissing me off is Phil’s attitude in those recent interviews. He is acting like they have always been multiplatform and people should be ashamed of questioning the approach (like Destin did with Starfield). But it’s their own comments that made people confused in the first place. “Don’t take this as a sign that everything is going, it’s not”. Etc. Now he is acting like this has always been their value.
@Isolte yea numbers should be better but Xbox is stacking the hell out of Playstation’s 2025 so much so that gamepass might cross PS players minds at some point;
At least: Indiana Jones, Forza Horizon 5, Doom TDA, COD whatever, The Outer Worlds 2, Ninja Gaiden 4.
Plus probably Halo MCC, Age of Empires 2 and Flight Sim.
It adds up for sure.

The problem is the way this has been communicated leaves a lot of Xbox Console owners in an uncertainty and doubt situation over the future of the hardware platform and their library. No hollow platitudes from Phil about new hardware at the moment are really going to help. Doubt like that tends to get set in stone.
I remember when we had the first podcast over this from them and they sat there saying it was just 4 games. How long ago that seems. If they had laid the strategy out honestly at that point, and communicated properly what the next hardware is going to be for Xbox owners, we would not be in this FUD situation.
@Isolte Samsung and now LG apparently. I have an LGC1 but not sure if it’s just the newer ones. But yea it’s definitely making people more aware of it - but at a time where they may now no longer need it. Going to be interesting to see it all play out, even if i’m not liking it.
@Isolte there’s fire stick, Samsung, LG.
It’s out there and there was no mention of it when they did their earning call.
It’s still too early for it to be a big thing. Infrastructure isn’t there yet.
@JetmanUK they can just rebrand as Pure MS if they like, they won't be short of Xbox gaming related coverage for a long, long time!
@Isolte A few small improvements to the experience on Xcloud would go a long way. At the moment it's the Series S versions of games, at max 1080p in the H264 codec. It doesn't look pretty even when played on a good connection via wired Ethernet.
If we had:
A modern codec (H265/AV1)
Series X versions of games
Upto 4k resolution
The difference that would make to the experience would be huge. I would certainly use it a lot more than I currently do.
Probably not connected but interesting with a major Xbox titles going PS5.
And we still have no big series x and s restock in the UK with most retailers running very low or out of certain models since Christmas.
@Millionski

@fatpunkslim Except we know that Microsoft paid Disney to make the game console exclusive to Xbox, and are porting it anyway.
@Elbow Yeah just one of many mistakes made was that he and the rest went way too hard with GamePass, it was obvious for ages that putting new AAA titles on it wasn't sustainable.
@DaddyDuder There's no chance of them waiting one or two years before porting going forward, they're not even doing that now in many cases - Doom, Outer Worlds 2 both coming to PS5 day one. Indiana Jones coming three months after it's initial release.
You can bet Elders Scrolls 6, Fable, Perfect Dark will all come to PS5 (and maybe Switch 2) day one.
@Isolte im not denying there will be improvements. The issue is it’s not just something on Microsoft’s end. It’s the whole infrastructure of countries/towns and cities.
It’s awesome if you live in a major city with great internet. Now go somewhere else that doesn’t have this and it’s a big difference. Uk doesn’t even have total 5g or gig internet speeds. Some places can only get 3G!
Microsoft can’t fix that.
I think you could easily argue that the day that Microsoft started putting games on the PC was the beginning of the end for Xbox, @YeyoFairy. The moment they did that, people were given the choice of whether to game on a PC or an Xbox, and remember, when Microsoft first started to put games on the PC there was a period of exclusivity then too. Now it is day and date, and has been for a number of years.
Thus it is easy to argue that putting games on the PC was when the real decline of Xbox as a console began. It was possible to completely skip the Xbox, and many people did. Now, with games going to the PlayStation, the same will be true, likely with the same pattern of behaviour too; to begin with it'll be 6 months to a year of exclusivity, then 3-6 months, and then day and date, though I imagine that Microsoft will greatly accelerate the time that this process takes than they did with the PC as I genuinely believe that Microsoft do not intend to remain in the console business after the release of the Prime. Once the Prime has been released I think Microsoft will licence their operating system to potential console and PC makers, and thus it is at that point you will see a 'console' that is effectively a PC and which incorporates Steam.
So, yes, I do think this is the beginning of the end for Microsoft as a console, and I think this is all part of their plan. Microsoft know exactly what they are doing, and that is to transition fully into a third-party publisher. Not straddling both a console maker and a publisher as they currently are...
@awp69 They had the money to do that 2 decades ago. The problem is they are incapable, especially consistently putting out great games.
Slimy Phil and Co getting more money is a great thing for you now somehow???? Why didn't you ask them to start bringing Xbox games to PlayStation 10 years ago if you're honest?
Absolutely agree with you, @K1LLEGAL. Microsoft and their cronies are constantly saying one unclear thing after another, allowing speculation and rumour to run rife. They should be crystal clear with what process they are following. Rip the band aid off and just tell us it straight. Yes, we're not going to like it, but they way they are currently going about it is far, far worse.
Add to that, they are also saying one thing and then doing the opposite. Being transparent would be much better than being seen as being totally untrustworthy...
Absolutely agree, @Ilyn. It started slowly on the PC; lengthy timed-exclusives, to not so lengthy, and then day and date, which it has been for some years now. I think with the PlayStation, Microsoft will follow the same path, but be far more aggressive with the strategy, particularly when a game like FH5 lands on the PlayStation and sells absolutely gangbusters. They will accelerate the process, and within a year or two, there will be no such thing as a timed-exclusive on the Xbox. When those millions of dollars start to roll in, Microsoft will not want to hold back on further releases...
Sorry, but I have FH4 and FH5, I gave up FH5 nearly 2 years ago, I don't enjoy it, they are welcome to it.
Played FH4 from start to finish and loved it and that was with my ultimate pass! yeah!
It is graphically nice, but for some reason I've not really enjoyed it.
So, why not share?
I've had a PS4 pro, but I still love my xbox over a PS5 and before anyone chimes in THiS iS MY Opinion. I love XBOX vpn ultimate pass and games at cheaper prices from different countries.
I'm not paying PS5 prices for games or even STAR WARS outlaw stupid prices on the XBOX. I'll wait.,..
I can afford it, but these companies are being greedy.
UBISOFT say the star wars outlaw didn't sell as expected - maybe...... it was them being greedy? How about lowering the over inflated price and see what happens.
Call me a cynic, but digital and phsyical were always the same price and they made lots of money from storing a game on the cloud, and not a physical presence. Why were the price the same?
I had a high spec PC before and considering going back and shunning consoles.
I'm with you, @Coletrain. I own all 3 consoles, and a very decent gaming PC, so I totally get the joy of owning everything, but when it comes to the PlayStation and the Xbox, it is about competition driving excellence. Remove that competition, and where is the need to excel? Sony have already demonstrated their complacency this generation, so imagine how bad that would become if the Xbox were a thing of the past...
Removed - inappropriate
I just wish Xbox would rip the bandaid off and give us a roadmap of PS5 ports incoming. They just became the world's leading publisher last month. That is a pretty incredible feat. Even tho I don't care for the 'This is an Xbox' campaign, they are slowly turning Xbox into a catch-all. I'm waiting for the inevitable change from Xbox Game Pass to just Xbox.
@Coletrain It's not just the bitrate. On Xcloud if its a current gen game, they are streaming the SERIES S version of the game to you. So Hellblade 2 is running at those low settings, missing tech AND is around 600p resolution and lower not locked 30 frame rate so the "1080p" max resolution on xcloud is even worse still.
How can people use xcloud and not know this. Digital Foundry already did a video confirming this.
@JetmanUK i’m in the same position, thousands of games (around 800 digital plus hundreds of 360/one games) and I don’t know what to do. I love buying Xbox games but I literally tweeted at Phil Spencer yesterday saying “which console do you actually want me to buy games on” because it’s really unclear.
I feel rubbish because I just don’t think i’m as excited about the industry going forward as everyone else seems to be. I love the 3 console pillars as they are; I love buying the hardware, I love achievement hunting, I want all 3 platforms to succeed together. And important to me is that I want to share that love with my kids when they are a little bit older.
Bit of a joke but the idea of the next generation of children associating Halo/Gears/Forza with Playstation is just… gross 🤣
As a user of xbox, I don't lettrly care! Provided that Xbox (the console & Accessories) continues to be supported and competes as operational capabilities!
Another example of users on this website would rather talk or cry about games than actually play them.
Most of you guys are collectors than actual fans.
@andrewsqual series s version on series X server blades. So, the tech is in place, but there's a lack of bandwidth right now.
It's a tricky one, because they need to be sure that if they increase quality and bitrate that they have enough server space to handle it. It must be by far the biggest game streaming platform at the moment.
edit: yes, tried Hellblade 2 on xCloud once, that particular one is awful 🤣
@JetmanUK I think the staff will be fine, there's so many Xbox games to cover going forward. Plus, MS is always up to something interesting and these sites pretty much pull from other media. A nice easy place for me to get all my Xbox gossip 🫡
@JetmanUK you’re saying this now without realising the possibility of PlayStation going multi-platform. This is the way that gaming is going in the near future.
Also it’s a bit sad that your commenting on the future of the employees on this site, acting as if Xbox is shutting down soon.
@kedireturns So whatever nonsense PR bait xbox comes up for fanboys like you
Despite that much of what you said was outlandish at best, I'm always willing to engage with people here, whether they agree with my opinions or not, but I draw the line and ridiculous childish insults. It's just the gaming world brother. There's bigger things to get eat up about, lol. Adios.
@DaddyDuder I think it will be a while yet before we get parity across release dates. Look at DOOM and IJ. We will still get some timed windows. Halo MCC is nearly a decade old (compiled of games that are even older) and FH5 is nearly 4 years old. That said, these are two games that will only benefit from more reach and MP boosts. I don't get the outrage :/
@Ilyn I get what you're saying, but nothing is being taken away. It's just an audience expansion. I honestly don't get the hatred for each and every decision the brand makes.
Xbox games are on PC.
PS games are on PC.
Do people hate on either because now, and for a long while, PC has the best of both worlds? Nope. Contradictions left, right, and centre. That's not aimed at you my friend, by the way.
@Elbow The idea of my library being held hostage behind a subscription fee when or if they phase out consoles is such an incredibly unappealing idea.
It's not being held hostage, in fact MS have taken steps to preserve games for many years now. MS aint dumb enough to gate your access (when that time comes) via a sub. That just wont be the way things work. It makes zero sense.
@Medic_alert In 15 years time? You do know that 15 years ago we were playing Xbox 360. In 15 years time anything could happen. It's certainly not out the realm of possibility to assume that the future MS is chasing will be well in full swing by then, with cloud-based play playing a massive part in that.
@Fiendish-Beaver I don't buy it. Like I said above, the whole "just one more reason to buy a PS over and Xbox" is mute, because why not just spin it to "just one more reason to buy a PC seeing as both Xbox and PS release their games there". It makes no sense to me, personally. I don't understand (not you) why people get so out of shape over things like this. It doesn't detract from anyone's experience with a game, that someone else can play the same game. Like the PS Exec said
"When Phil and his team are putting amazing content on more platforms, who's the victim? I've been asking a lot of people like 'who's the victim?' and there aren't any, except for people who are just like 'well I want it [games] only where I bought it and that's what I expect'."
...and he's 100% correct.
@Widey85 Heyyyy there you! It's been one hell of a while. How you been?? I read Xbox Era from time to time. I didn't know there was a community there? Yeah I agree, it's only good for the game and its post-launch support and online community. I mean it's nearly four years old. Same with Halo MCC if that goes over. It's nearly ten years old, and is a compilation of games much older than that. How does it negatively effect anything? It doesn't :/
But alas, you just can't convince some people lol. I also don't understand the whole narrative certain people convey. Xbox games are rubbish, but sell so well once they hit PS? C'mon...
Fiendish-Beaver wrote:
Disagree with this completely. PC is a different market from consoles where people are buying $200-$500 boxes vs spending the same (or quadruple) on a GPU, where people want a plug and play pre optimized experience vs tweaking yourself until you get it right. Porting to PC was the right move. playstation is now doing it clearly moving more and more towards day and date, the Helldivers 2 massive success I'm sure accelerated plans but it was definitely already moving in that direction. This is not the end of playstation. Completely different markets. People forget this because they spend their time conversing online with communities that are comprised entirely of gaming enthusiasts who buy every platform including PC. These people are statistically insignificant. Microsoft knew this, sony now knows this. They're moving slowly because they don't want to upset their cult, in a sort of similar way that Xbox is now moving to day and date games on playstation. You put the frog in the pot before you start boiling the water.
All I'm hearing in my head right now is "Segaaaaa!!!........"
@ZAHMED I personally think it very very unlikely that Sony will start making all their games available on Xbox and Nintendo. Do you really think that? What would be their incentive to do that?
My comments on this site were made with sadness, and well wishes to the staff. Do you actually recall that the site has shut down once already due to the lack of popularity of the Xbox brand? I was here for it, it happened... and I predict it will happen again (sadly).
@Trmn8r Yep, Sega, Atari, Xbox. ☹️
@Coletrain If it rebrands to Pure Gaming and becomes a PS, Nintendo, PC and mobile site then fantastic. That's where all the Xbox games will be anyway, and remember everything is an Xbox now, MS said it themselves.
@Kaloudz Yep if you open the menu on Xbox Era and hit Forum you'll find a decent discussion board - they've also got a Discord but I'm too old for that lol.
And been good thanks, you? Have way too much to play - I wish Game Pass existed when I was a teenager, I had loads of games but it was still an expensive enough hobby I'd often have to replay games loads to keep me occupied - GTA3, Metal Gear Solid, World Cup 98, Age of Empires 2 and years later Halo 3 and Mass Effect.
Whereas now I've got Game Pass (and first party output is insane at the moment) and loads of third party games to play and now I'm a stupid adult and will die of old age before I get my backlog to go down let alone finish it lol...
With Xbox games now potentially going to PlayStation, they're finally getting a bit of a fairer hearing from much of the gaming media that never gives Xbox a fair shake, and even Eurogamer has an article on how good value Game Pass is going to be this year and next - it's still overly dramatic ("will it save Xbox consoles?!" ffs lol) but I'm hoping it'll increase awareness.
Life's got a lot more expensive, and this hobby shouldn't be eye wateringly expensive to the point people struggling can't afford to enjoy it - it doesn't need to be that way, a gamer with Game Pass streaming on their TV is no less a gamer than someone who's bought every console and every game...
Clocked up nearly 150 hours on steam deck and probably similar on XSX what a game. Won’t get for ps5 until on a sale as I’ve played it so deeply twice. But a no brainer purchase for anyone that doesn’t have an xbox but has a ps5. It’s a monster of a game. Generational game
@Widey85 Wow thanks dude, I had no clue that was there. I assumed it was mute as I don't ever recall seeing many comments on the posts but if they're all hiding in the forums (which I love) I might just have to pay it a visit
Yeah I'm good too thanks brother. Oh god tell me about it. I don't know where to start with the amount that I have to play. Before Game Pass I'd be one, maybe two games a quarter, max. Now, I'm spoilt for choice. Sniper Elite, Eternal Shards (great if you haven't tried it) and then Avowed, and much more. It's crazy.
Yeah there's a stigma that follows Xbox no matter what. I'm sure they could cure a major disease and still come out the bad guy :/ but I agree, all these "crappy" Xbox games will go down a treat and hopefully show other platform fans (that we all know will buy it based off the last round of Xbox games that went multiplat) that games here are actually very good.
@JetmanUK didn’t mention how it would be all PlayStation games, but it would be best for a staggered approach like Xbox is kind of doing.
Didn’t know this site went through these types of troubles. Let’s hope we can all stick together as community.
@ZAHMED Hope so mate, I've always enjoyed this site, and community. 😊
@Kaloudz There's only one thread on there they allow all the "Xbox going multi plat, oh god is there a future!" but if people go OTT and are just on to troll or doom and gloom without being constructive they get banned / suspended.
So overall in the rest of the forum it's a positive place and pretty chilled out - there's also a backlog thread I've finally joined to try and encourage me to complete some games, you'd be welcome to join it.
Really looking forward to Avowed - and tempted by Eternal Strands but still finishing Veilguard and Indy at the moment!
I need to stop time for a few years so I can catch up...
@Jenkinss Playstation announced ages ago they were putting live service games to PC day one. They're not going to follow Xbox and put a gun to their head by doing it for all games though.
@Widey85 I'll try finding an hour this weekend to join up, if not next week brother. Thanks for the heads up. Sounds like a nice place to hang the hat in addition.
Oh I loved Indy so much. I cant wait for Blade, that's another media-to-game crossover I'm looking forward to. As for Eternal Strands, I'm finding it to be quite unique. It's certainly not a fatigue-inducing RPG - it's actually quite chill but very well worth a look into.
As for Avowed. Time cant move quickly enough. That will lead me nicely into the only game that I plan on buying this year (AC Shadows) as I firmly believe GTA will delay to 2026 despite what Rockstar say lol.
@Kaloudz Yep AC Shadows is a definite for me, and thanks I'll give Eternal Strands a look.
Avowed and Blade are definites too - I imagine if GTA6 releases this year it may be a bit rough, plus I'm waiting to see how much they gouge their customers with the rumours of silly pricing...
@Kaloudz See I just can't imagine what a process is going to be, then. Their end goal is cloud streaming, so how can that work? They're not going to give it away free. Maybe downloadable emulators on other systems tied to your Xbox account? But that's a big if, if they can even get something like that running on other platforms. OR if the other platforms even allow it. (I know this is one of probably a dozen potential ideas, I just can't imagine what other option there could be.)
We know rivals won't accept Gamepass on their consoles, and I'm personally skeptical of Gamepass taking off on mobile because those are not the kind of games that rule phones.
I know I've come off grumpy in these replies but it is from a place of concern for Xbox/the gaming landscape in general.
@Tasuki I do want to say it's not just one game, this comes after multiple of their big exclusives like the one-time Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves. And Forza is one of the 'big 3' that define what Xbox is. I don't count Indiana Jones since I do think any of the publishers they bought should stay third party (which includes Starfield and Redfall though we know that last one won't get ported)
There is literally not one reason to keep my Xbox series X now. I bought Xbox for the exclusives but all the exclusives I want are on PS and PS has exclusives that Xbox doesn’t.
I’m heading down to the mall to buy a PlayStation tomorrow.
@Elbow I haven't read you as being grumpy bud. It's easy to misread how someone is talking when posting online but as far as I am concerned, you've been decent to chat to. There's nothing wrong with people that have varying opinions at all. It'd be boring if we all thought the same and felt the same.
@Widey85 AC Shadows looks amazing. It helps of course that I adore feudal Japan as a setting in any media (Shogun is an amazing 2024 show if you didn't see it). I cant wait to get stuck into that. I just hope we don't get another delay O_o
Oh I know right? I'll happily pay £70, but that's really my max. If the industry use Rockstar to justify price increases then that imo just justifies why subscription services are the way forward.
@norwichred Bit hasty don't you think? There's every reason to keep Xbox. In fact, if you're only jumping ship for the exclusives, the cost of just two first party Xbox games (on PS) will equate to a whole year's subscription of GP, which you can get every first party game on, at launch. Not to mention all the day one third party and other third party games. Further, MS have said that next gen, their next console will have the biggest technological leaps of any generation, and will be feature competitive. I wouldn't kick 'em to the curb yet bro.
Great news for PlayStation users it's a fantastic game
When "Everything is an Xbox", there is no longer an Xbox.
@blockfight it’s different from sega right now
besides there’s more to life than just console wars and brand loyalty
