There were loads of highlights from an Xbox perspective at the PlayStation State of Play event the other day, and one of them was Tides of Annihilation - an upcoming fantasy action-adventure game that looked stunning in its trailer.
Well, a bunch of Xbox fans thought Christmas had come early today when Tides of Annihilation suddenly appeared on the Microsoft Store as available to buy for just $22.49! And no, this was not just a pre-order.
This inevitably led to a lot of purchases, after which players discovered that it was only a 300MB placeholder file that wouldn't actually load up - it just pushed them back to the Microsoft Store. A wasted buy in the end.
It's obviously still not an ideal situation for Microsoft, especially considering the company will now have to refund everyone who hit the "Buy" button earlier today. The press can't be bad for Tides of Annihilation though, which continues to rack up interest - you can watch an extended gameplay walkthrough for the game down below.

Judging by the gameplay trailer, it's like Darksiders and Bayonetta had a baby.
@deadmaker It looks great to me, though some of the acting looks a bit dodgy. But a dystopian London with Arthurian characters and Inception like warping worlds looks wonderful.
Will be interesting to see what Microsoft do with the $22.49 purchases, companies occasionally honour their own mistakes.
I agree, it's got a very Darksiders feel about it - which is only a good thing imo. I'm interested.
is it another souls game?
Instantly added onto my store wishlist 😊
@kingtoten no it looks like Bayonetta/Devil May Cry/Nier Automata kinda gameplay.
@FraserG this is a total non-sequitar, but there is purexbox, pushsquare, nintendolife, time extension. How come there isnt anything for pc games? Just curious.
@VeganHerpes It's been discussed before I believe! Not a decision I'd personally be involved in though, so can't elaborate 🤷🏻♂️
@deadmaker
Lucky Darksiders.
That's annoying.
But no where annoying as, "Wishlist it now!"
What's the point of it? It's not a pre-order. It's not developer getting any money from us.
So annoying.
Wait, is that the price for it? Like the actual price? OMG! That's amazing! This was my favorite reveal from the presentation and seeing it come to Xbox was such a huge relief. I can't wait to save (or destroy while saving) London.
@FraserG
I would love it if that happens haha. (pc gamer)
