Hazelight Studios returns to the limelight in March with its next big release, Split Fiction, and the team is making it even easier to hook up with friends and play together this time around. Not only does the 'Friend's Pass' return — allowing you and a buddy to play with one copy of the game — but with Split Fiction, the pass works across systems as well!
Yep, whatever platform one person buys the game on, their co-op partner will be able to download the Friend's Pass and jump in on any supported platform, whether that be Xbox, PS5, PC etc. Remember - the two of you can experience the full game this way, with just one copy of the game.
"The Friend's Pass allows anyone who owns the game to invite a friend to join the fun online for free, even if they don’t own a copy!
Better still, the Friend's Pass lets you connect and play with friends across different platforms with crossplay for the very first time in a Hazelight game. And you can do this as many times as you like, even if you invite a new friend to play through the sci-fi and fantasy adventure each time!"
What's more, Hazelight's free pass offer is even more generous this time around. If you and a buddy both happen to download the Friend's Pass but neither of you own the game - you can both trial a small section of the game before one of you picks it up! This sounds like a great idea to us and should encourage lots of folks to try-before-they-buy with Split Fiction next month.
"Even if neither you and your co-op partner own a copy of Split Fiction, you can both experience a Trial of the game for free using the Friend's Pass! Once you both download and launch the Friend's Pass version of the game, you will be able to invite each other to play the opening stages of the game together, and then continue your progress if one of you purchases a full copy of Split Fiction!"
As the follow-up to It Takes Two, Split Fiction comes to Xbox Series X and S on March 6th, 2025.

This was already incredible with It Takes Two but that brings it to another level. What a standard for co-op games. Even if the game does cost a bit more than their past releases.
Trying to convince your friends to play a co-op game (outside of Gamepass) can be tricky as you ask them to drop £40 to play with you. So this is a great solution.
Can’t wait to play this one.
This is the dude that was all like Screw the Oscars!!! Wasn't it? Love that guy's energy.
Huge! My only other friend that still games has a ps5, we are gonna smash this one.
I absolutely want to play this. It Takes Two is one of my favourite ever games. But I have so much to do/play and so little time it'll be a while before I get to it. It might even be on Game Pass by that point 😀
It’s naughty, but I’m going to preorder this one (using Rewards points) as I have faith in Hazelight
I don't like watching or listening to Fares; I find him cringey, insufferable and edgy for edgy's sake. I will, however, never question the man's artistic integrity and willingness to go against the grain in regards to what a publisher would want him to do. The guy knows what he wants to do and what's best for the players playing his games and does it.
