Over the weekend, industry veteran John Gonzalez rejoined Xbox studio Obsidian Entertainment, after almost 15 years away from the team. Back in the day, Gonzalez was the lead writer on Fallout: New Vegas, and now rejoins the team as Creative Director on a different project.
Bethesda's 2010 Fallout spinoff has such reverence in the community that pretty much straight off the bat, Gonzalez has had to remind folks that he is not directing a 'New Vegas 2', at least for now. At the time of posting, it hasn't been revealed which Obsidian project the vet will be working on.
Of course, we do know that Obsidian is working on both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 right now for Xbox, with some other projects likely being spun up over there as well. The Microsoft team is a very busy one - often working on multiple projects simultaneously and releasing them in quick succession as well.
Anyway, for now, all we know is that Gonzalez is "back to Obsidian for exciting times" and that Fallout: New Vegas 2 isn't on his to-do list just yet. If you're excited for your next Obsidian experience on Xbox, Avowed launches in just a few weeks' time on February 18th - or potentially even earlier.

That studio was already overflowing with talent. I can't wait to dive into avowed, outer worlds 2 and whatever else they got coming.
Glad they got that out of the way, but it's pretty cool to see he's back. NV was an awesome game and it'll be nice to see what else Obsidian has cooking.

Easily one of MS best developers. They create a wide variety of games in great time, they make diverse games, and they're not afraid to try something new.
Yeeah...That's just the sort of thing someone rejoining Obsidian to ostensibly work on a new game that isn't Fallout New Vegas 2, but is in fact rejoining Obsidian to work on precisely Fallout New Vegas 2 would say...🤔
