There was so much potential behind Warner Bros. MultiVersus when it was first unveiled a few years ago, and even though the game turned out to be pretty good, it's unfortunately not performed well enough to justify a longer lifespan.
Today, it's been confirmed that MultiVersus will go offline on May 30th, 2025, with the final season beginning in a few days' time. The game's microtransactions are being removed immediately as well, and that includes on the Xbox Store.
"We want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey."
The good news for offline players is that MultiVersus will still function after May 30th for local multiplayer, but you'll need to make sure you've already downloaded it before then - as it's getting removed from the Xbox Store on that date.
Unfortunately, the writing was on the wall for this game, with Warner Bros. announcing back in November that it had significantly underperformed despite only relaunching in May of 2024. We've seen so many teams trying to emulate the success of Super Smash Bros. without much luck... and now MultiVersus unfortunately joins the list of those titles.

Just release a paid version of the game.
I liked this but the pricing was insane and never spent a penny on it.
Release it as £60 offline edition with the characters and I'll buy it.
This is a shame, but I've only heard bad things about the relaunch. Hope the dev won't suffer layoffs due to this.
@abe_hikura and this is what publishers still don't understand. Many people
1. don't have the required ridiculous amount of free time to grind in a game like this to unlock things
2. don't want to spend ridiculous amounts of money to unlock things
So those people most likely tried it out and noped out of there. I certainly did.
@Markatron84 Of the people I've spoken to that seems to be basically true.
They try the game, think it's pretty good, decide to have a look at the store and DO THE MATH and decide there and then it's not worth it.
@abe_hikura and even if they did have the time to grind or the inclination to spend money, chances are they're already doing that on the regular for another live-service game. The sort of Fortnite mega-success these companies are chasing can't happen for every live-service game; there's a finite amount of time and money available from a finite number of people.
@Markatron84 Yeah, they still seem to think they can "cover the spread" that if they make enough LS games one will strike it big and justify it all. Seemingly forgetting we gamers don't have infinite time. The industry can't support to many of these forever games just as it couldn't support too many MMOs.
Somone will come up with some other way of milking cash and they'll rush to that. Instead of just making games and selling them.
Sad to see it go. They could easily revamp it later on as a retail game, but I doubt WB would make such a good decision at this point with their obsession of chasing live service games.
Wow. That didn't last long at all lol.
I would of played this game like I do smash and Nick all stars if they just made it a regular game. Free to play model doesn't really work with this kinda game and made it a big turn off after playing it for about a month and realizing I would have to play for hours just to get stuff
It just was not fun! Just a total grind
Hard to match the excellence of Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The genre is decided.
I did not play the beta test in Asia because I did not receive the test participation bonus.
Obviously, this was a strategic mistake.
