In a New Year's update posted by Hideo Kojima himself, the legendary game maker has provided various updates on his studio's in-development projects - some positive and some not so much. In terms of Kojima Productions' Xbox game OD, while progress was made throughout 2024, it sounds like the title suffered some major setbacks in the back half of the year.
In this update, Kojima went on to say that "we developed the game [OD] and had actor and environment scanning", but in the latter part of 2024, "scanning and filming were suspended due to the SAG strike". Finally, Kojima says that the team "hopes to resume" development on the project in 2025.
"Thank you for all your support in 2024. It was a year full of many things: DS2 development, the release of our second trailer, ADR for the actors, music production and recording, Japanese voice recording. In the summer, we started to play and build up the game. We were also able to hold a TGS stage event for the first time in 5 years.
For OD, we developed the game and had actor and environment scanning. In the second half of the year, scanning and filming were suspended due to the SAG strike. Casting was also suspended for Physint due to the strike. We hope to resume next year."
Back in September, an interview with Kojima gave us our most recent update on this still-mysterious Xbox project. The Metal Gear Solid visionary says that OD is "a game like no other", and that "it’s a bit risky and a new challenge for me within the realm of games."
Ultimately, we'll have to see how this Xbox project shakes out, but it's probably best to not to expect a launch anytime soon. Kojima isn't exactly known for sticking to the rulebook, and with this news of strike-related setbacks coming in, we could be waiting a while to go hands on with OD for Xbox.

It’s been five years since Death Stranding, so, man, am I praying DS2 is soon, and that OD won’t be far off in the years. Kojima’s games are my favorites and I can’t wait for them. I don’t tend to buy Xbox games anymore because of Gamepass, but I’ll preorder OD when I can.
We know very little about the game and it's probably ages away so couldn't be bothered till we have more info
That’s all this game appears to be, face scans, how can anybody be excited for this pretentious rubbish yet.
I can’t get excited for this man’s games after the postal delivery game.
The old metal gears, yes, but not his recent stuff.
Give me, Avowed, Fable, Doom and south of midnight any day of the week.
My expectations couldn't be lower for what he assures us is actually a videogame. Hopefully it exceeds them.
This hurts. Now that Indy is out, this is one of the few remaining titles in the known pipeline I’m looking forward to. Now we have to wait even longer ☹️
@somnambulance
