Since the surprise release of Death Stranding Director's Cut on Xbox Series X|S, we've seen lots of speculation about the sequel - and whether Death Stranding 2: On The Beach could one day come to Xbox as well. With how Kojima Productions has handled the first game, there's a good chance DS2 will arrive on Xbox eventually - but we'll likely have to wait until sometime after its PS5 release.
Is Death Stranding 2 Coming To Xbox?
So far, Death Stranding 2 hasn't been confirmed for Xbox. During an event in March 2025, Kojima Productions announced that the game is coming to PS5 on June 26th - with no mention of an Xbox version. The Death Stranding sequel hasn't been confirmed for PC yet either, so we're still waiting on Xbox & PC details at the time of writing.

Will Death Stranding 2 Come To Xbox Eventually?
PlayStation owner Sony is publishing Death Stranding 2 this summer — just like it did the base version of Death Stranding back in 2019 — which explains the game being PS5 exclusive on day one. The first game didn't move to another platform until the PC release in 2020, with Xbox fans then having to wait another four years for the game to come to Series X and S last year.
So, the sequel's release cadence could be similar to that, but there's a chance that the gap to an Xbox release might be shorter with Death Stranding 2. As you may have seen, developer Kojima Productions now fully owns the IP - having announced the news alongside the Xbox release of Death Stranding Director's Cut in 2024. While there's no firm confirmation of DS2 on Xbox yet, KJP studio now owning the rights to the series can only be good for other platform releases down the line.

Who Would Publish Death Stranding 2 On Xbox?
505 Games has published every version of Death Stranding outside of the PlayStation release, so they're the most likely to help bring the sequel to Xbox in the future. However, as we just mentioned, the developer does own the series outright - so it ultimately has control over who it partners with to publish the game after Sony helps with the PS5 version in June.
And, well, that's about all we know about Death Stranding 2 on Xbox so far. The game is only confirmed for PS5 at this time, and it's being published by Sony on that platform, but it's likely that the developer will want this game to come to other platforms at some stage - hopefully on Xbox sooner rather than later!

Almost certainly yes now they own the IP. But I wouldn't' expect it for a while.
Another thing to throw in is it’s use of the Decima engine, perhaps that’s part of Sonys agreement for exclusivity, I also wonder about Kojima’s other deals with Microsoft and Sony regarding OD and Physint.
Wouldn’t surprise me after his ordeal with Konami that he’s very reluctant for any publisher to retain permanent control of any IP he makes.
Kojima Productions owns the IP now so yes it will almost certainly come. I would assume 2026 or 2027, no more than 2 years after DS2 releases on PS5.
I assume it will eventually, there's without a doubt some timed period of exclusivity. Maybe two, three, or five years. With Sony, it could be longer than a normal year or two.
On the flipside, I think this confirms OD will also hit multiplat eventually. Less of a surprise there with Xbox as of late though. Only thing I wonder, if it gets a multiplat release on next gen consoles, will it still need to be "streaming only"?
I certainly hope so!
Yeah I expect it much sooner than DS1 came. What I think is that Kojima Productions was in it's infancy at the time, so a deal with Sony helped to protect and retain the Devs/staff. Now it's able to stand on its own two feet, Kojima can branch out into multi-plat and be the loveable maniac whose games we all fell in love with so long ago!
I give it 6-12 months until it releases on PC and Xbox
@Nighto4 PC definitely.
I think it would be very surprising if the exclusivity deal with Sony isn't at the very least a year long, maybe even two. But yes, after that its definitely coming to Xbox. But i wouldn't be surprised if it would still take 3+ years
I'd say it's a matter of when and not if it comes to xbox. We don't know if sony has an exclusivity window in place and if not we don't know if they would have a version ready for launch. I doubt we have to wait 5 years for this one.
Now that Death Stranding has been ported to Series X/S, DS2 it’s now a matter of “when” not “if” when it comes to an Xbox release. They’ll certainly be some timed PS5 exclusivity deal between KJP and Sony so I won’t be expecting DS2 on Xbox for at least a year if not more.
@Elbow might not be a timed exclusive as Sony don't really have a say anymore. Unless ofc HK chooses to make it a timed exclusive. Depends how much money Sony throws at him i guess.
@jedinite I believe Sony is publishing DS2, so they're still funding it or at least involved in some meaningful way, so it's probably gonna be a good few years.
A 100% it will come to xbox. Just a timed exclusive for ps5. Those are usually between 3 months and 2 years. I would bet for 1 year or so
Death Stranding was on PC Gamepass it debuted in 2022, its not in PC gamepass anymore but has been available to buy on Xboxs PC gamepass and store since 2022.
I don't know, but I got Death Stranding as soon as it released on Xbox. Been wanting to play it for quite some time.
@Willbo47 Same here. I've only put in a few hours so far and it's definitely a unique experience for sure... strangely addictive considering I've spent most of my time just delivering packages 🤣
With the first one making its way over here I expect it will be on Xbox at some point, probably not soon but eventually. Not that I have any interest personally but there is hope for folks who are.
Doesn't bother me in the slightest. Not a big fan of the guy's work. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy 'strange' but most his stuff borderlines outlandish even by my standards.
Fantastic game the original and I can't wait to play the next in the series.
Its Sony published and I believe they have helped with the dev process and Decima engine, so it may be some time before we see it on Xbox. shame, but I'd choose to play on PS5 anyway so I don't personally have an issue with it. I'd prefer for Xbox players to have it sooner, but with Sony publishing and funding I would expect at least 2 years before we see it..
Edit - just watched the trailer. It's a fantastic example of just how far video game creativity, storytelling and technology have come. As someone who has watched this media grow since the very beginning and dedicated 20 years of my life to making it, its moving to see its come so far.
@Nighto4 lol for pc yes, but for Xbox give it several years.
this game will be amazing and could sell 20 million copies..
Removed - trolling/baiting
@Nighto4 amen to that
I hope it will come 2 years after the PS release
Give it a year or 2 and it will be on Xbox.
It's not good to assume
@Kaloudz i don’t get it either
"to come to other platforms at some stage - hopefully on Xbox sooner rather than later!"
If it happens at all it's definitely in the later camp. After all it's a timed(?) exclusive to Sony- the undisputed kings of very loooong timed exclusivity deals...
Perhaps on Microsoft's next-gen console, I'm eating fantastically well on Xbox in the meantime.
@nomither6 It's such a strange concept imo 🤣 I'm not saying it's trash, of course, but I'd love to have been in the drawing board room the moment someone put this forward as an idea.
TBH i thought the original was a load of pretentious bollocks that was just being strange for the sake of it. If this had not been made by Kojima i am of the opinion most people would have said it was not very good if they were being polite.
Certainly from my view point it was not a good game at all and just because it was made by someone who is revered in terms of video games does not mean you should get a free pass for producing something like this
Just in case it is not obvious absolutely not going to "play" death stranding 2
A game I will almost be definitely be buying day one on playstation....one of the few exclusives (at the time) on playstation that I found not to be massively overhyped ...might not be to everyone's taste but was different and I really enjoyed it
