Well, here's something we weren't expecting in 2025, Arkane's Xbox One title Dishonored 2 has today received a new update. That's roughly nine years after it was originally released!
It's generated a lot of surprise (as well as some confusion) within the fanbase and wider Xbox community, so what exactly is going on here? Admittedly it's not quite as exciting as the "performance" update we all hoped for. If you are wondering though - according to the PC patch notes on SteamDB, it's apparently updated the "language depots". On PlayStation's patch notes for the game, this update seems to be recorded as "bug fixes".
Although the update is displaying at around 40GB on Xbox (the game's file size on this platform), the patch is believed to only be about a 230MB download. Unfortunately, though, it seems it could be another one of those cases where you're required to update the entire game again. Here's a look at some of the posts highlighting this latest update:
Arkane originally released Dishonored 2 on the Xbox One and other platforms in 2016, so once again this latest patch arrives about nine years after the game originally launched! Over the years, there have been ongoing requests from the fans - asking Arkane to give the title an FPS boost. And yes - they've had another look after today's update and it appears there's still no "60FPS" upgrade.
As for the future of the Dishonored series, developer Arkane is currently working on the Marvel's Blade game. There have also been some leaks and rumours in the past few years suggesting Dishonored 3 could be on the way. If you do want to catch up on this series, it's available now on Game Pass. Here's a brief description from Xbox if you haven't played this title before:
"Play your way in a world where mysticism and industry collide. Will you choose to play as Empress Emily Kaldwin or the royal protector, Corvo Attano? Will you make your way through the game unseen, make full use of its brutal combat system, or use a blend of both? How will you combine your character's unique set of powers, weapons and gadgets to eliminate your enemies? The story responds to your choices, leading to intriguing outcomes, as you play through each of the game's hand-crafted missions."

Worthy of a PX write-up?
I hope one day it’ll have an update for 60fps. Been waiting to do another playthrough if it does.
@TheGiraffe This! As much as I don't want to throw shade, anyone who writes an article where the only information that matters can fit into one sentence (not even a long complex one, just a short simple sentence) needs to at least look themselves in the mirror before they do so. More so when the only "evidence" that would denote investigative journalism are a couple of reddit posts that also don't even really say anything.
"The Dishonored 2 path is a minor language update." Boom! Done.
I mean if they really wanted to make an article on it, why not do an entire piece about how updates need to be improved on console, so that an update that is MBs on PC doesn't become virtually an entire reinstall of the game on Xbox. Interview some people in the know about this. Do some actual journalism that sheds light on an issue and teaches us something new. This wasn't even an entertaining read or an opinion piece (which they could've used it as a springboard to announce fears of Bethesda studios like Arkane and Machine becoming a Disney studio like insomniac has or just general desire for a Dishonored 3 over a licensed Marvel game). Like anything of worth. I hate myself even more that I both clicked on and engaged with this.
Hey there, we cover all sorts of game updates on PX.
As mentioned in the story, this update has generated a lot of interest within the Dishonored community (and wider Xbox community) because it's been so long since the game's release and Arkane is now working on other projects.
A lot of players on consoles have also been hoping for a performance update - hopefully one day.
@WildConcept6 @TheGiraffe I can understand what you are both saying, but I think an article like this IS news and will likely draw quite a bit of engagement from Dishonored fans, if only to decry the lack of a 60fps patch.
Sort it out Microsoft it’s the only game in the series you can’t play at 60fps on Series X and you own Bethesda / Arkane now.
@Liam_Doolan when you say generated a lot of interest, where ? 255 upvotes on reddit & 40 views on X and that's a lot is it, hmm 🤔 (as per your posted sources at time of my posting.)
It's my favourite out of the 3 and it's the only one without a 60fps boost. I hate to be this guy but I can't see them updating this game. Microsofts intentions are pushing game pass sales and Activision with their FKn crap Fest known as warzone
"Various bug fixes"
I need play this game. But will need to back and replay Dishonored 1 again before so.
