It's a quiet time right now for new releases on Xbox, but we're still getting a few here and there - and something that's caught our eye today is a shadow drop for the award-winning walking simulator known as The Exit 8.
This title first arrived on PC back in 2023, and has since come to a variety of other platforms, receiving a positive reception along the way (it's actually "Very Positive" on Steam). The idea is that you need to reach the exit of an endless underground passageway in which things get weirder and weirder as you progress through the game.
Here are a couple of example reviews courtesy of some players on Steam:
Peregrine on Steam: "As a fan of Japanese culture, this caught my attention! It's not exactly scary that it'll keep you up at night but there can be creepy anomalies. Think of it as a "find the difference" game and the things that you actually need to spot are well hidden and not entirely obvious. I finished the game in less than two hours and I ain't refunding this! Had a great experience and I'm looking forward to what they will create next! Will definitely support!"
Nubinator on Steam: "Very simple but eerie game, short but fun and challenging. Once you beat it, the game gets very easy to beat again so you cant really play it multiple times, but worth the price."
The Exit 8 is purposely designed to be low-budget and short (it could take you less than hour to beat), but nevertheless it's still managed to prove popular with its fans - to the point where it's even being adapted into a movie this year! And, as referenced in the headline, the game was a "Breakthrough Award" winner at the Japan Game Awards 2024.
You can grab The Exit 8 right now on the Xbox Store at a price of £3.39 / $3.99 for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
"You are trapped in an endless underground passageway. Observe your surroundings carefully to reach "The Exit 8". Don't overlook any anomalies. If you find anomalies, turn back immediately. If you don't find anomalies, do not turn back. To go out from Exit 8."

I was pretty interested in this game but I was watching a 2024 recap video and the creator basically ruined the solutions. Will still probably take a look. Hopefully there is more to see.
Despite having seen a playthrough that show all of the solutions I'm still going to buy it because A) I think it will be fun to experience it by myself and B) to vote with my wallet. For me voting with your wallet is not only not buying the things you don't want to see be replicated but also to buy the things you want to see more of, and I definitely want to see more games like this come to Xbox
I guess I'll have to get it at that price looks very interesting!
Thanks for the info!
I think I'll wait for it to go on a deep, deep sale... 🤣
I just got a £5 xbox voucher from MS rewards so maybe I could use it on this?
Get this, go in blind, and enjoy an hour of the best walking sim gameplay in ages… get hungry for more and know the prequel Platform 8 is surely not far behind, repeat.
I love these games. I put Platform 8 in my top 10 for last year. That one hour of playing was more memorable than most larger games I played last year.
I done a gameplay videos of Exit 8, it took me 17 minutes and a few odd seconds
Why is everyone watching solution videos without buying the game? It's like buying wiper blades for a BMX bike.
Xbox Game of the Year!
I guess beating this in an hour or so and then getting the auto refund from Microsoft for having less then 2 hours of play time would kinda be a jerk move lol
@themcnoisy assuming others were the same we weren’t watching “solution videos” we were watching a recap video of the “best games of 2024” to maybe find some hidden gems we’d missed. But the creator annoyingly explained the trick to solving the game.
This looks like Season 4 of Umbrella Academy
I’ve played it last night. Pretty fun but I have to get back to it. Apparently my ability to notice anomalies is not up to par at 4 a.m. so I have to get back to get the last 2 achievements.
If you know what to look for it is pretty easy but somehow I managed to miss some.
@YeyoFairy Not at all do it Microsoft would screw you over if they got the chance!
