It's a quiet time right now for new releases on Xbox, but we're still getting a few here and there - and something that's caught our eye today is a shadow drop for the award-winning walking simulator known as The Exit 8.

This title first arrived on PC back in 2023, and has since come to a variety of other platforms, receiving a positive reception along the way (it's actually "Very Positive" on Steam). The idea is that you need to reach the exit of an endless underground passageway in which things get weirder and weirder as you progress through the game.

Here are a couple of example reviews courtesy of some players on Steam:

Peregrine on Steam: "As a fan of Japanese culture, this caught my attention! It's not exactly scary that it'll keep you up at night but there can be creepy anomalies. Think of it as a "find the difference" game and the things that you actually need to spot are well hidden and not entirely obvious. I finished the game in less than two hours and I ain't refunding this! Had a great experience and I'm looking forward to what they will create next! Will definitely support!"

Nubinator on Steam: "Very simple but eerie game, short but fun and challenging. Once you beat it, the game gets very easy to beat again so you cant really play it multiple times, but worth the price."

The Exit 8 is purposely designed to be low-budget and short (it could take you less than hour to beat), but nevertheless it's still managed to prove popular with its fans - to the point where it's even being adapted into a movie this year! And, as referenced in the headline, the game was a "Breakthrough Award" winner at the Japan Game Awards 2024.

You can grab The Exit 8 right now on the Xbox Store at a price of £3.39 / $3.99 for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

"You are trapped in an endless underground passageway. Observe your surroundings carefully to reach "The Exit 8". Don't overlook any anomalies. If you find anomalies, turn back immediately. If you don't find anomalies, do not turn back. To go out from Exit 8."
