Xbox's Obsidian Entertainment is a busy old developer these days; they've been working on Grounded, Pentiment, Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 at the same time in recent years. The latter title on that list has largely been kept under wraps since its humorous 2021 announcement, however, it seems that development on it is going well over at the California-based studio.
In a new interview, Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart has talked about development on The Outer Worlds 2, and how the team has been getting on since we last heard about the game. Here's what he had to say on progress so far:
"It's going really well; I'm really impressed with the team.
I appreciate Microsoft and the teams, we said 'No, we will get there. We'll get there with all of these games.' Are they going to be on the timelines that we originally thought? No, but we're going to get there. And I think that's been proven [Grounded, Pentiment].
Grounded turned out awesome. Pentiment turned out awesome. Avowed is going to be great. The Outer Worlds 2 is looking incredible. We have a base now with everything we are doing with Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, with how we use Unreal and the tools that we've been developing for years and years - to go off and make games, the whole next generation of games."
As we hinted at previously, we've seen very little on The Outer Worlds 2 since its big reveal three years ago. In fact, we've not seen the game in action at all really - Obsidian has been busy enough showing off Avowed and such in recent times. With that one officially arriving next February, hopefully we see The Outer Worlds 2 in action soon enough.
The Outer Worlds launched back in 2019, and was actually published by Private Division despite Microsoft acquiring the studio a year prior. The sequel is being developed entirely under Xbox's wing though, and it's been confirmed to launch day one on Xbox Game Pass when it's ready to go.
