Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is now officially out in early access, and although we conducted our review on Xbox Series X, we know you want a look at the Series S version too - so we've put together a comparison video up above!
As you can see, the Xbox Series S version still provides a good experience when stacked up against its Xbox Series X counterpart, albeit with a worse overall resolution - along with texture quality that's clearly reduced in some situations. The best news is that you should experience a smooth 60FPS regardless of which console you're playing on.
Anyway, we're mainly going to let the video speak for itself here - you'll find 12 minutes' worth of comparison footage in the video above, encompassing a range of cutscenes and gameplay scenarios, so hopefully it'll prove useful for you!
If you're already playing Indiana Jones in early access, what has your experience been like in terms of performance and visual quality? We'd love to hear your early impressions about this down in the comments section below.
What's your biggest takeaway from this footage? Come and tell us in the comments!

Wait, if the series s version is so good, why in the world are system requirements on PC so outrageously high?
Overall, it looks pretty solid on the S. Happy with what I’m seeing.
I’m just very glad it’s 60fps especially on series x.
Now come in Avowed you can do it, at least on series x, you have had extra time to do this.
@Bigmanfan According to Digital Foundry, VRAM. If you crank the game's Texture Cache too high for your GPU you can really mess up the game. I think Shadows also ramps up the VRAM usage too.
Otherwise, the rest of the game's settings can be cranked as high as they can go without penalty.
Since the Series S already uses pretty low textures compared to other platforms, it's light on VRAM.
If you have at least a 12GB GPU, you can crank the game to it's highest at 1440p, but need to drop Texture Cache down a notch if you want 4K.
8GB you will need to drop both Texture Cache and Shadows and 1080p seems to be the sweet spot.
NOTE: These settings may change dramatically when Path Tracing is introduced to the game on release day.
@GamingFan4Lyf Oh that makes sense. Thank you. I have an 8GB GPU (rtx 4060), but 1080p is perfectly fine to me. (I only have 1080p displays anyway lol )
Series S looks pretty damn money. If they weren’t side by side I’d be saying both look money and can barely tell the difference.
Series S def seems money for the price
I own a series s right now but I'm getting a series x over Christmas so I'm just gonna wait to play it on the series X I'll hopefully have in the next two weeks once my misses just gets on with it and orders the bloody thing for me ha I'm playing black ops and suicide squad I got on sale a couple days ago so I can wait to be blown away by indy on series x.
@DJKingaling Even though I'm upgrading to series x soon the series s is an amazing bit of kit for the price if playstation made a lower spec console like that with the ps5 it wouldn't of got half the hate people would of loved it!
@Ricky-Spanish PlayStation did the opposite with £825 all in! Joke.
@x3King84 Exactly but they have sold the most consoles so there farts smell of roses to everyone ha!
@Bigmanfan If you haven’t seen, here is what DF recommends for your setup at 1080p on 8GB:
Medium Texture Cache (Medium Shadow quality and Low Hair quality are also recommended to maintain optimal performance).
Everything else is Max settings.
@GamingFan4Lyf Dude you're a lifesaver. Thank you
@Bigmanfan If you look at the graphics settings for a PC game compared to the exact same game on XBOX Series X|S, you'll see several extra settings to micro-manage every aspect of the game running.
Meanwhile, on XBOX, you get 'Performance/Quality' toggles and all the other settings are locked out. The console knows exactly what the ideal settings are, while the PC version has to ask you what you think your hardware can do.
The Series S is a gem. It's annoying that the social media warriors were able to establish such a bad reputation for it. Great little system.
@OldGamer999 Avowed being 60FPS is probably not going to happen... Indiana Jones being 60FPS is the perfect example of what an actual good engine can do. idTech is a crazy optimized for 60FPS beast. Unreal Engine 5 is straight trash on anything that isn't a ridiculously high-end PC.
@AverageGamer
It’s such a shame as I really do prefer 60fps.
I was brought up on 30fps but once I got used to 60fps, 30fps looks so poor when panning around etc and in movement.
I’m sure Unreal 5 will be running 60fps with Gears E-Day and the coalition will show them how’s it done to perfection.
For me it’s the Avowed development, they can do 60fps on series x and it would look great.

Digital Foundry John Linneman's video is amazing. It doesn't just explain the technical details, but covers the game in the most faithful way. One of the best reviews you'll find anywhere.
Regarding the Series S version, they kept ray tracing and 60fps, with image quality taking the hit.
@Ricky-Spanish
Well done on getting the Series x, enjoy.
@Steel76
Well at least we know Doom next year will be ID tech at its finest.
Unreal Engine 5 seems more designed for the next generation than for this.
@OldGamer999 The misses still has to order it but thanks bud I'll enjoy it when I get it anyways ha dying to play red dead 2 again but in 4k this time
@Ricky-Spanish
Don’t leave the ordering to long, only 2 weekends until Christmas 🤣
@OldGamer999 I'm getting some of her presents tomorrow and Tuesday to force the issue without saying it haha!
@BacklogBrad It's capable in the right hands, but unfortunately majority of games on Series S look very blurry. I do like the idea of a compact low-power device, though, especially as a secondary gaming device.
It looks to be fairly solid on the Series S. For the price the system is an absolute bargain. Getting mine when it went down to £169.00 on Black Friday 2022 was an absolute steal.
@Ricky-Spanish
Good tactics, hope it works.

Not seeing anything that would justify spending to purchase the higher price system if you already have the S
@BacklogBrad has become after the Xbox 360 my all-time favorite system for Microsoft.

Oh. The difference is actually pretty big. That said, the Series S version still looks good, especially for a console that's usually sold well under it's retail price of $300. But yeah... the Series X version has way better shadows and a noticeably higher resolution.

@Bigmanfan Because sub 1080p resolutions with low settings hasn't been acceptable for a while now.
