After a long old wait since MachineGames' last proper release with Wolfenstein 2, the team has just dropped Indiana Jones and the Great Circle into early access this past Friday. Of course, the big Xbox Game Pass launch is still to come, but early access players - we want to know what you think of the game so far!
It's probably still early, sure, but there's plenty to talk about here even after just a few hours of gameplay. Were you as impressed with the game's strong introduction as we were? Are you finding the large open levels a bit dull, or are you having a much better time with them than we did? It's all just personal preference and we want to know what you're thinking at this stage.
Anyway, we understand that most of you will be waiting for the Xbox Game Pass release on December 9th - but you can combine that access with a Digital Premium Upgrade to go hands-on this weekend instead. The choice is yours!
If you've been pulled in to upgrade by Indy's signature whip, how are you finding the game so far? Is it living up to your expectations as Xbox's last big release of the year? Give us your early scores in the poll down below, and tell us about your experience with the game so far in the comments.

Got it preloaded and ready to go on Monday.
I am enjoying it. Even if the Stealth portions remind me of the shooting sequences in Uncharted...I get thru them. They aren't great. But the rest is pretty awesome.
I’ll be enjoying it as soon as the regular launch and am planning to promptly drop every other game I was playing
I'm not paying 40 dollars to play a game 4 days early cause I'm not stupid
Will play Day 4 on Game Pass! I don’t want to support this awful advanced access business model.
At the Vatican right now and really enjoying it
Good performance Series x, looks great and very detailed.
It’s absolutely fantastic. Truly feels like your in an Indiana Jones movie and the first person honestly adds to that feel. The voice acting is wonderful with Troy Baker doing a spot on impression. Great, often funny cut scenes. Environments and puzzles are true to the Indy spirit. Graphics and performance are excellent.
It’s up there with Metaphor Refantazio as GoTY for me.
And, also, I’m paying because I know I’ll want the expansion pack. The early playtime is just a bonus. Not sure why people are acting like that’s all you get.
@Bigmanfan They get dlc down the line though🤷
@OldGamer999 What are the graphics options is there like performance, fidelity, fidelity Ray tracing?
@Ricky-Spanish no option for the xbox series x only 1080p upscaled to 4k 60 fps with global illumination ray tracing watch the digital foundry tech review if you want more details.
Hey, as painful as it is to admit, Wolfenstein 2 is not their last proper release... Youngblood should never be forgotten, @Kezelpaso !
A herculean amount of effort went into that game. Just... y'know. Not where it mattered.
@Ricky-Spanish Does make it a little better, but still, buying DLC for a game you haven't even played yet is not what I would call the wisest choice. (I mean no disrespect though to anyone that does. I am just a a deeply untrusting person lol.)
I’m in rush to play it. I’ll probably start it up during my PTO around Christmas time!
@Ricky-Spanish
No it’s just 60fps running about 1800p
So looks very clean. No quality or performance modes. Very detailed as well.
No other settings apart from the usual.
Film grain
Motion blur
@Ricky-Spanish
If you want a very detailed analysis DF have done one, yes there is ray tracing on.
By the way I’m playing series x.
@Elbow oh come on. He was probably actively trying to forget Youngblood. Poor guy's probably going to spend his Sunday in the fetal position now, thanks to you.
@Markatron84 And that's a perfectly understandable reaction!
....Just gotta take the good with the OH GOD IT'S BAD IT'S BAD.
It is fantastic. Bought the early game access and am happy to support Machinegames for this amazing piece of work.
I've been tempted to get the early access upgrade via CDKeys for £22 but TBH I've got too much other real world stuff to get done.
IIRC it's available in the UK from Sunday at midnight, so I might stay up late and see what all the fuss is about.
@munstahunta 1800p, not 1080p.
Waiting for ‘day one’ very excited 😁
@Bigmanfan that's a perk for people very very well off. no biggie
@Arkz nope 1080p not 1800p.
I can’t imagine paying just to play something a few days early when I can already play it with the subscription I already paid later.
@Xbox_Dashboard can indiana garrote people with his whip? If not very disappointing
@Bigmanfan I think thats a pretty interesting way to look at and challenge people like me who have. Personally paying £35 is my way of supporting Machinegames and hopefully encouraging Microsoft to keep them in this direction after the horrendous Youngblood and getting it early is a bonus. It also does come with the upcoming dlc and some nice to have cosmetics.
Cheaper then having to pay £70 for the full game release or the £100 without Gamepass Ultimate, while still feeling like I've helped this studio directly who most definitely deserve it.
@munstahunta Digital foundry have confirmed 1800p. Definitely not 1080.
@JoyfulFire my bad you are both right he realy says 1800p.
$40 for a game that I might play and will never play the DLC for. Nah, I'm good. I'll check it out this upcoming week.
Digital Foundry John Linneman's video is amazing. It doesn't just explain the technical details, but covers the game in the most faithful way. One of the best reviews you'll find anywhere.
Yep. Been playing this and enjoying it. GPU cost me nothing (ms points) so I paid for the early access and DLC. Loving the puzzles and spending my time exploring everything.
Plan to get it on PC eventually.
@jerrylongbones But is it really helping them out though? Like, I'm sorry but I can't envision this money going to anywhere other than shareholders and executive bonuses. Also, I don't like how you say "Getting it early as a bonus." Let's be real about it, if this whole early access garbage wasn't a thing, you would've gotten it on the 6th anyway. That would've been the release day. Nobody releases games on Mondays. It's not a bonus, it;s just locking the real release date behind a paywall. This whole nonsense is horse armor all over again, and I hate that it exists. Just wait until GTA 6 releases and charges 60$ extra to play the game a week early. You get what I mean? Once again, I don't want to tell you how to spend your money. By all means do whatever you wanna do. But, I don't know, hopefully this helps you understand my position and why I choose not to support these practices.
@Bigmanfan I can respect that you aren't fully positive about the practice, but the assumption it doesn't reflect in better numbers for Machine Games when it comes to the revenue generated...
I mean of course the money always ends up in shareholder and executives pockets, just as does if you purchase any game.
My argument is I want to support MachineGames, I waited for reviews and as they were extremely positive, I wanted to be able to support this studio more then just me downloading the game on Monday as part of GP Ultimate, I truly do mean its a bonus though, £35 compared to £70 as I would normally have to pay and I get the upcoming dlc etc, like I struggle to see where I lose out here.
Also you're forgetting we're in the digital age now, games used to release on certain days for physical distribution reasons, which is obviously not so important and games releases are all over the place now when you look at it.
If you dont like the practice fine, but I just don't appreciate being considered stupid because I decided to support a studio doing something great.
It does annoy me with the Monday release mostly because it's tempting with a nasty storm outside knowing I won't really be able to put time in until next weekend! I held off anyway. Tbh I am finding the hot mess most titles are released in these days is training me to wait by default. Really looking forward to it though! Great to see it's been working well for people.
@jerrylongbones That's entirely fair when it comes to supporting the studio. Just to clarify what I said initially, the whole "stupid" line was more meant as a joke than anything. Trust me, if one of us two is stupid it is 1000% me. But, one thing on the last point. It's true game release dates are all over the place, but most major games release right before the weekend. And almost no major releases are on Mondays. I would bet every dollar I have that the 6th would've been the release date if this whole nonsense didn't exist. Personally, I despise this practice to the point I wouldn't support it under any circumstances (even if it was for one of my favorite series), but I don't expect everyone to feel the same. And once again, your reasons are pretty valid. Regardless, I'm sure we can both be glad the game is good. Can't wait to jump into it myself once winter break rolls around.
Just had an hour on it before bed and it's really good so far
Sounds like xbox W finally
It’s better than I expected! Really enjoying it so far
Played an hour or so and liking it so far (although I would still prefer it to be third person 😂)
Player 30 mins after release last night. Whilst it's too early to comment on the game per se, the first person vibe is far better than I expected - feels weighty but responsive (so far anyway).
I wouldn't know, I won't play it myself because I'm not that interested, but from what I read, many gamers have a positive feeling after playing it, so I think it's a good game.
Absolute winner. Incredible game thus far on Xbox Play Anywhere (PC.)
Loving this so far.
@Bigmanfan I did it with starfield and I was glad I did. I put the game down toward the end and thought eh I’ll finish when dlc comes out (not knowing if I would) but I did and I actually liked starfield even more coming back to it
@Reptilio That's pretty neat. There's always something cool about getting back into a game you dropped.
Played about an hour so far and really enjoying it
Personally not enjoying those open levels very much. Bit of a game of two halves for me. The story levels and tomb raiding are excellent, as are the cut scenes. But those open levels. Who knew Indiana Jones could be so dull?
I like the combat, it suits Indiana Jones. It's fun to parry with one hand and punch with the other, and using improvised weapons. Obviously, it's not a shooter, we have enough of them!
The puzzles are challenging and make you think, if you don't turn the easy settings on. There are also interesting ways to use the map and items, in a more immersive way. I'm not the biggest fan of first-person view besides shooters, but in this game it works nicely. Excellent game!
Not an indy fan so i will play on game pass.
