Towards the end of last month, ININ Games announced it had acquired the publishing rights to Shenmue III and wanted to make the game accessible to more players.
Now, in an update on social media, the publisher has released a "prospective survey" asking players if they would like to see Shenmue III on select platforms (including Xbox Series X|S), as the series approaches its 25th anniversary.
The 25th anniversary of Shenmue's release in Japan is coming soon, while the 5th anniversary of Shenmue III's release was just celebrated last month. What fantastic milestones for this legendary saga!
We know you’re eagerly awaiting a statement from us, and we deeply appreciate your patience. Our collaboration with YS NET has been very fruitful, but we are carefully reviewing all details. This process takes time, and we thank you for your understanding.
In the meantime, we have a prepared this quick form with a few questions. Your feedback will be invaluable to us, so please, don't hesitate to share your thoughts with us!
Apart from the question about the platform players would like to see the game on, the same survey asks fans what graphics and performance improvements they would like to see for Shenmue III, and also what their favourite moment in the entire series is.
When it was initially revealed ININ Games would be collaborating with developer Ys Net, many fans were already making requests on social media for an Xbox release.
This action-adventure game is based on the famous Sega series by industry legend Yu Suzuki and was originally released on the PlayStation 4 and Windows after a successful Kickstarter campaign. Here's a bit more about it:
"Journey deep into rural China as you take on the role of Ryo Hazuki, a Japanese teenager hellbent on finding his father’s killer—a story of adventure, mystery, friendship, martial arts, and ultimately, revenge!"
And if you want to play Shenmue on Xbox right now, you can always check out Shenmue I & II.

No I do not, but thanks for asking.
Told them!
Graphic/performance improvements? I just want to play it 🤙
Not unless the entirety of the game is minted on disc (no digital key BS).
Yes PLEASE we want a release on xbox
I’d buy it on switch first but hope the game becomes mutiplat for console.
I'd buy it just to support this kind of stuff on Xbox.
Yes, yes and yes!
I've been waiting for so long for this game to escape Sony's clutches/whatever arrangements were in place stopping an Xbox release. Please bring to the green team too 🙏.
I know this is not a performance improvement and is going to sound crazy. But… I’d like to see a really awful English dub. Part of Shenmue’s spellbinding charm is the stilted dreamlike English VO that’s sometimes nightmarish, but it’s iconic.
I know that can’t be done but if there’s one use of AI I’d tolerate, it might be that. Anyway I’d just be happy to finally continue Ryo’s journey, I adore these games so much.
A few years ago, the answer would have been yes.
But if you asked me whether I would buy the Xbox version at full price after having obtained it for next to nothing on a PC, the answer would be no.
I still like Shenmue, which SEGA made.
Dreamcast graphics please 👌
Great games back in the day but hold no appeal for me anymore make a reboot with contemporary graphics and gameplay and I'll be up for it then Dreamcast was a very long time ago
Would be nice to finish off the collection on Xbox. I love playing the arcade and games console in the house.

No. The thrill is gone. Shenmue is now history (and before you burn me, I bought Shenmue 1 and 2 , day one on my Dreamcast and my Xbox...). Again, a game launched 5 years before the era of adventure games (like the first Outcast on PC...). But... The Gameplay, QTE feel "old"...
We already have like, 8 Shenmue games on Xbox. They're called Yakuza.
@Nintendo4Sonic Do you own an Xbox? I've never heard anyone who owns an Xbox use the phrase "the Gamepass subscription". Also, it's Game Pass. Two words not one.
As an Xbox owner myself, the myth that we don't buy games is laughable.
@__jamiie because it is a subscription, nothing more.
And it's a lot of people, who aren't willing to buy games anymore, they think the games are for free with Game Pass.

Super Eyepatch Wolf on YouTube made the definitive video outlining the problemsto be fixed.
TL;DR
Reduce the amount of duplicate cutscenes.
Reduce the amount of grind to get money
Reduce the input lag during combat.
@Bob_Salat A Dreamcast toggle mode would be amazing for sure.
Sure, Xbox and Switch totally need this shovelware.
