Original Story: These days, Fortnite is more a gaming platform than a traditional video game, and Epic's new 'Ballistic' game mode only further highlights this - it's basically Counter-Strike but built into the battle royale title as a whole separate experience.
Ballistic — "an adrenaline-filled, round-based 5v5 game mode" — is an entirely new game within the Fortnite ecosystem. The concept of something completely left-field coming to Fortnite isn't new - but this is intriguing us because it looks so different than what Fortnite's brand of shooter mayhem typically serves up.
The Ballistic mode hits all platforms on December 11th in early access, and Epic is starting out with just one map; Skyline. Here's a screen showing this new map/mode combo off - and even that looks like something ripped right out of Valve's FPS series - or maybe even Riot Games' VALORANT for that matter.
Here's some more information on Ballistic; explaining a bit more about the mode and what to expect when it comes to Fortnite on Xbox this Wednesday:
"In Ballistic, players are sorted into two teams at the start of the match: attackers and defenders. Attackers aim to plant a reality-tearing Rift Point Device at one of two sites on the map, while defenders do their best to thwart the device from being planted and detonated.
There are no respawns in Ballistic — a round is over if the Rift Point Device explodes, or either team is fully eliminated. After 6 rounds, players will swap sides, giving defenders a chance to be attackers and vice-versa. The game is over when either team has won 7 rounds total!"
