We've talked about how much we love Xbox Play Anywhere here at Pure Xbox before, and we even highlighted 10 great games that have been added to Play Anywhere in 2024 just a few weeks ago. But still, it definitely has its issues.
The biggest problem is that Microsoft makes it so difficult to figure out which games support Xbox Play Anywhere and which games don't. Sure, there's a tag that gets added to some games on the Xbox Store, but half the time it seems to be missing - and there are actually a lot of Play Anywhere titles that aren't even visible on the Xbox PC app.
Finally though, there's now a solution! A group of Xbox fans from the Xbox Era community have taken it upon themselves to create a "master list" of Xbox Play Anywhere titles, and it includes over 1100 games in all. This is the ultimate guide that you'll need for Xbox Play Anywhere going forward - it's brilliantly exhaustive and easy to read!
Obviously we're not going to step on their toes and publish the list in full - but you can find it right here:
There's clearly a ton of research that has gone into this list, but there's no guarantee that it's perfect - so you may discover additional titles that haven't been mentioned yet. Even so, it should prove a very helpful resource. If you do have anything that you want to add to the list, there's even an accompanying "Game Submission Request" form.
And if you're wondering what we're talking about when we say "Xbox Play Anywhere", it's the term that Microsoft uses for games that can be bought on Xbox and then played via the Xbox PC app as well. Basically, if you buy the game on console, you get another version for free on PC - perfect if you like to swap between platforms.
As mentioned, we've seen a few great titles added to Xbox Play Anywhere this year, and we know that Xbox boss Phil Spencer is a big fan of the service, so it'll be interesting to see how much this list grows over the next 12 months.

It's an underappreciated value for the Xbox ecosystem in my opinion.
I love developers supporting this feature so I can just play on my laptop whenever streaming is not sufficient when I am on the go.
I wish the xbox pc app would have a mode like Steam big picture mode where it looks just like the console UI. Maybe it could even be like GOGs Galaxy app or armor crate from ROG Ally where I can launch games from other platforms from the Xbox app. I like the idea of one launcher to rule them all. It would make sense for Microsoft to provide that.
I hate using the windows store for anything gaming related. It's a pain to locate the play anywhere titles.
This is amazingly helpful now that I have a ROG Ally X to compliment by Xbox. Definitely will use this during Black Friday sales. This list is like 3 times bigger than filtering for Play Anywhere games on their website.
Brilliant feature!
Not sure why Xbox haven't given it more focus.
I love the idea of being able to seamlessly switch between machines with different use cases - big tv, laptop, portable.
I was tempted by a pc setup because of this but changed my mind.
Anyone that bought the Persona Collection which contains P3P, P4G and P5R. Knows if you receive the play anywhere version.
Every other bundle, game for persona on the store have the play anywhere. Minus the collection of the three games.
Play Anywhere is a good scheme. The only drawback is that you have to subject yourself to the Xbox PC app.
@Sakko I created an account with PureXbox just to tell you that yes. I bought the Persona pack including P3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal and they all are Play Anywhere and show up in the Windows PC App.
@j0hntitor Nice thank you.
I didn't know that there were so many! That and free cloud saves are what makes Xbox hassle-free and versatile.
@j0hntitor Welcome!
Xbox Play Anywhere is a fantastic program. I always say it but Xbox is UNIQUELY positioned to create a gaming empire and one that gives it's users the most freedom over their library and greatest accessibility to it. Microsoft just needs to go all in on in. This is a fantastic example with the Xbox Play Anywhere program they pioneered, barely even being discoverable and consistently accurate on the Xbox App. The Xbox era article even goes into how some games in the program that you may own, are straight not in the Xbox app but only the MS store. Microsoft's inability to support their own strategy is pathetic. I really hope this article continues to gain traction. The people behind it did excellent work. Xbox Play Anywhere needs better visibility and Microsoft needs to say that it's unique offerings in gaming that no other company can give that will win them gamers. If a game has Xbox Play Anywhere, I'll even buy it over the steam version.
@BacklogBrad Microsoft itself needs to make their teams actually talk to each other and develop an (xbox) gaming mode for Windows. Something similar to how it is in steam OS that just turns off unnecessary jank you don't need while gaming and gives a much better UX and UI for gaming.
@WildConcept6 Absolutely. Microsoft needs to make a gaming mode for Windows
(not that boost mode but a console mode) and Phil Spencer admitted that when discussing their future handheld and how Windows works on the handheld PCs. It would be on computers too, bringing the Xbox experience to the other devices. They already have studios, Play Anywhere with third parties included, cloud saves and the OS, something nobody else has.
"Buy it on console, and play it at no extra cost on PC"
That would be the day when PlayStation gamers could ever say the same.....
@Major_Player They're still salty about cross-play, and their majority hates even the idea of GamePass (regardless of the reported financials), so I'm sure play anywhere would be one of the worst things ever to them as well. 🙄😒🤦♂️
For Nintendo, well, every switch game is essentially "play anywhere", lol. 😝
@EVIL-C:
You have spoken the truth my friend.
Actually I feel like down the road when this feature develops its pretty cool idea to get PC+xbox in living room + handheld and be able to play same games and GP and pay only once. Definitely an expensive setup but seems like the ultimate solution next gen especially with sony games being more and more on PC.
This is the only real way that every bento box is a xbox. Too many big games are missing from this feature but couple huge ones do have that feature: Like a Dragon + Metaphor Refantazio. This makes it worth buying them from xbox instead of steam
