Remember Contraband, the open world co-op game announced by Xbox Game Studios back in 2021? Well, we've seen or heard very little on the Avalanche Studios game since then - and Xbox fans are starting to wonder what the heck is going on with it.
Over on the platform's Reddit page, one user simply asks "what happened to this game?", prompting responses from fellow Xbox fans who are pretty much thinking the same thing. There's lots of speculation in here, alongside reminders about some reported info that's come out over the years on this mysterious Xbox title.
On that last Reddit comment there - we really hope this one isn't stuck in development hell, even if we heard rumours it was internally delayed recently. The concept for Contraband sounded really cool at the time of its announcement - this is how Avalanche described the game back then:
"Contraband is a co-op smuggler’s paradise set in the fictional world of 1970s Bayan, and our most ambitious and spectacular game to date. We’re taking everything that we’ve learned from 18 years of being at the forefront of creating beautiful, vast open game worlds filled with stunning vistas and incredible emergent gameplay moments."
These guys developed the Just Cause series of course, and we're still keen to see how this one develops - if Avalanche and Xbox can properly bring it to life. Here's hoping these Xbox fans are soon satiated, and that we see Contraband in action again in the near future.
