Ahead of the anticipated arrival of Stalker 2 on Xbox Game Pass this week, it appears the new entry has received an absolutely massive update on Xbox Series X|S.
As highlighted on social media and elsewhere online, multiple users are reporting how although the sequel already required an install of roughly 146GB, they've now been hit with a casual update that's around 139GB. You can see a screenshot of this latest update for the preload via the Xbox subreddit.
There's no mention from GSC Game World of what's included in this latest update, so we'll just have to wait and see.
Large updates like this (even before the launch of select games) have become a common occurrence during the Xbox Series X|S generation. Games like Call of Duty are also known to regularly roll out huge updates.
You can find out more about Stalker 2's release date, download size and availability in our full guide here on Pure Xbox.

Why are updates so big on Xbox? I know this isn't on PS5 yet but when updates are rolled out for games on both consoles almost always the updates are far bigger on Xbox.
What was even the point of the pre-download if they are just overwriting most of it.
I've quit playing multiple games because the update/new season was basically downloading the entire game again. They really need to fix this.
@DennisReynolds it's a new build. Some devs do this.
Jeez, at this rate, I’m going to have to delete Black Ops 6 before I finish it just to fit Flight Sim and Stalker…
Preloaded the game already... but I'm keeping my internet off to see what they've actually uploaded to the Xbox server before this suspicious patch 🤔
Is this replacing what is already there or an EXTRA 140gb?!
@Scrubchub - it’s replacing it.
We had exactly the same with the BLOPS6 pre-install.
Just hope it’s a cracking game. Looking forward to seeing it in action tomorrow.
Another win for cloud gaming. Glad I don’t have to bother with this stuff and can just play the game fully up to date right off the bat.
@gollumb82 Everyone with an Xbox can aswell but I get what you're saying 👍
I ain't downloading all that, bruh
I assume this is to fix what had been leaked by people who were playing pre day 1 patch.
It looked rough and had performance issues. So hopefully this sorts it all!
I just hope it runs well on series s at least 30fps and 900p!
@Xbox_Dashboard It's true that some devs do this, but it seems to happen on Xbox far more than other platforms. e.g. look at the latest AC: Syndicate update which is getting a free 4K 60fps patch after almost 10 years.
There's SOMETHING about the way Xbox is configured that makes this happen far more often over here. It's not the end of the world but it is a little annoying, not everyone has super fast connections, and some are still metered.
@themightyant this happens on PC constantly. Sony is one of the worst with their constant new builds instead of patches. Drives me crazy when devs kick this crap out.
