It was back at The Game Awards a couple of weeks ago that SEGA announced plans to develop new games for Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Shinobi and Golden Axe, and it was one of the most exciting reveals at the event!
Now, in an update from SEGA Sammy as part of a recent Management Meeting, we have a few more details to share about each title. Perhaps the biggest confirmation here is that Jet Set Radio will be an open world game.
You can see some of the new images of these titles above, and here are the descriptions for each:
- Crazy Taxi: "Innovative & Fresh Style Driving Action! Cheerful feeling of freedom x Fusion of nature and city, Peel out the new stage of Crazy City!"
- Golden Axe
- "Warriors arise to subdue the demons! Defeat your enemies with a variety of attacks with swords and magic! The legendary story about the battle axe, “Golden Axe” is about to begin!"
- Jet Set Radio
- “Counter-culture”. Tokyo Street Open World. Experience the “rebellion” movement that feels free in a suffocating society. Make friends, increase your fans, and create a movement."
- Shinobi
- "Slay the enemies in the silence of the moment. Run through the world of Shinobi full of monsters and ninja actions. Grab Oborozuki, the legendary sword and slay Evil once more. Your clan and the world are counting on you."
- Streets of Rage Revolution
- "Beloved side-scrolling beat ‘em up action series. Take control of one of the ex-officers and make the city a place where people no longer have to walk the “Streets of Rage”!"
We don't have any idea of when these games will be releasing just yet, but you can check out some early development footage in the trailer at the top of this article. Hey SEGA, how about bringing a couple of these to Xbox Game Pass?

I wonder about the soundtrack of the new Crazy Taxi, will it still be punk rock or will they go with Dubstep?
I'm tied with Crazy Taxi and Jet Set, but after just playing some Bomb Rush CyberFunk (and just getting the physical release of it this week) I guess I gotta give my excitement for Crazy Taxi.
I have been waiting for Golden Axe to return for a long time.
I really hope it's great and actual care is put into maintaining what made Golden Axe such a classic. The same can be said for the other games.
DotEmu seems to have that magic touch, though, so I hope that studio is involved in some way - even if it's just kind of acting in an advisory role in maintaining the "feel" by modern standards.
I’m very curious about the new Jet Set Radio game. I loved the original the the Dreamcast so much, it’s the reason I bought the OG Xbox for JSRF. I’m really hoping this new one is great. I’m looking forward to the rest of the games as well as I’m a huge SEGA fan, but Jet Set Radio is the one I’m most excited for.
In haste I voted for Streets of Rage... but then I realised SoR4 scratched that itch. I REALLY hope they get Shinobi right, it's one of the OG games for me. I remember being wowed on the Master System that you could duck... lol... and that there were bonus shuriken throwing missions between levels that felt like the most badass thing in the world... for a young kid anyway.
I want all of them, but more interested in Golden Axe. We were waiting for a long time.
I do worry and wonder if all these games - - as great as they were - - are better left to nostalgia and back in their day.
Just get that little gringe in me, they will not translate well to this era of gaming. Hope I'm wrong.
Glad Jet Set Radio is going the superior JSRF route and being open world instead of timed level based.
Now they just need to nail the sound track. And boy they better get the rights for Concept of Love if they lost them.
We wanted more than Sonic and Sega answered. I can't wait to play them.
SORR for me. What else needs to be said, hmmm?
@InterceptorAlpha I’d even tack on that soundtrack for all these games needs to be spot-on!
All these games had something special in their soundtrack - probably as it was necessary to get attention in a crowded arcade room. It would be a shame if that aspect falls flat. I want all these games to make my speakers explode with awesome “arcade” tunes!
I wonder if SEGA will have the classic Offspring tune for Crazy Taxi. 🤔
I don't even know what any of these games are going to be like. I know what crazy taxi is like tho. I'll give that a go. But not sure about the others. If it's RPG then yes, I wanna play those.
I'll buy the new jet set day one but damn it Sega, just release a port of jsrf. Favourite game of all time and I hate digging out my xbox to play it.
@InterceptorAlpha I hope they have the soundtrack like jsrf where they had remixes of the first games songs and new ones.
@Beetlebum91 I'm playing a heap of original Xbox games at the moment, and that is high on the list.
Can they all be out about now please.
Excited about all of them.
@SpecialT it's crazy to think it came out when I was in high school and everyone I knew who bought an xbox sold the game as it was a pack in game that they all didn't want. Everyone only wanted to play Halo and I couldn't relate.
