Slitterhead, the Silent Hill-like horror title coming to Xbox later this week, has perhaps flown under the radar a bit ahead of its launch on November 8th. However, reviews for the upcoming Xbox release are now out in the wild, so we thought we'd gather a bunch of those down below to give you a general idea as to how this one is shaping up.
Also, up above we have some fresh Xbox Series X gameplay from the title to share with you all, so feel free to check that out as well! In the meantime, here's what the critics are saying about Slitterhead:
Niche Gamer (9/10)
"While it is apparent that Bokeh Game Studio was working with a tight budget, they knew how to stretch their dollars. Slitterhead is truly a special horror game that is sure to be a cult classic."
Press Start (8.5/10)
"Slitterhead offers a refreshing and unique experience that pays homage to Bokeh's pedigree while still establishing its own identity. Despite some minor flaws, the game makes great use of its weird but wonderful narrative and ingenious possession mechanics to bewitch you from the beginning. With such a distinctive sense of direction and style, Slitterhead is an incredibly strong debut that firmly establishes Bokeh as a studio to watch."
Eurogamer (4/5)
"Slitterhead is stylish and thrilling and unusual (and really, how can you say no when one particular Slitterhead that looks uncannily like Beetlejuice?). How lucky we are that something as singular and unapologetically strange as this exists."
GamesRadar (4/5)
"Part sci-fi body horror, part thrilling detective yarn, Slitterhead is a story of humanity versus monstrosity in a city where both are plentiful. Bokeh's debut release bravely takes strides to manipulate, challenge, and evolve how we play horror games, and while some of these risks do not pay off as well as others, Slitterhead's sheer creative ambition is impossible to ignore."
Push Square (7/10)
"Frustrating at times but fearlessly inventive, Slitterhead is an absolute must-play if you're looking for an original take on the survival horror genre.
Repetition and an overall lack of refinement do bring it down, but you'll be hard-pushed to find a more imaginative experience this year."
IGN (5/10)
"Slitterhead features some interesting body-swapping exploration and a unique blood-based battle system, but it never fully capitalises on either of them due to its small handful of repeated level settings and largely indistinguishable enemy encounters. Like a bloody blade worn down by a few too many battles, Slitterhead grows increasingly dull over time and ultimately just doesn’t cut it."
VGC (2/5)
"Slitterhead isn't very good, but it is very interesting. In an age of remakes, sequels and safe bets, it's heart-warming to see something that's so clearly such a singular vision. We're disappointed that vision is sold short by basic combat and a focus on the game's ugly characters, but we're glad it exists and would welcome more attempts like it."
At the time of writing, Slitterhead has an overall Metacritic score of 60 and an OpenCritic rating of 66, so yeah - this one might only be worth taking on if this sort of game is really your jam. Still, plenty seem to like its unique take on the genre, meaning Slitterhead may be worth considering as a future pickup for you horror fans out there.

I'm squinting to find why this keeps being referred to as "Silent Hill-like" 🤔 The gameplay and setting are very much their own thing. Definitely one I'll play down the line but sadly at launch $60 is a bit steep. Too many games lately!
Not like Silent Hill at all.
Only reason to state anything related is the creator and composer are doing this game, otherwise it's an action game with horror elements.
Silent Hill is more walking horror puzzle simulator with action elements.
@Broosh standard edition is 49.99 but yeah, your point stands.
@Siambretta Ah, thanks for the catch! Only link I saw earlier was 60, so good to know!
mixed ratings? I don't care!
I love me some Japanese horror!
@Broosh People on the internet are only saying that because Keiichiro Toyama, the director/ writer of the first Silent Hill made Slitter. But every single one of his games has had its own identity and aren't really anything like each other.
Looking forward to it. I love when creatives just let loose
Been waiting a while for this one. The reviews are around what I expected.
IGN is really on the war path lately. Really looking forward to this one.
Really looking forward to this one! It looks absolutely bonkers and I am all for it.
I’ll definitely pick this up when it drops in price or hits GamePass. Looks like it’s a blast.
(And, yeah, nothing at all like Silent Hill)
First non-retro-styled horror game I’ve been interested in, in like… 10+ years. Sounds like the combat is a little iffy! Would be cool if it came to game pass.
@Utena-mobile I think the likeness is more in the style of monster, Its that unique japanese body / creature horror that If people find appealing they will enjoy, even if the gameplay is unique. It just hits differently to the western horror of jump scares and torture porn, and gunning everything down like your rambo on halloween.
@Ilyn That's a very good point. And funny enough, Silent Hill is the perfect example when you compare the way Homecoming does horror compared to the Japanese Silent Hill games.
@Utena-mobile One of the stand outs for me was Siren Blood Curse, It took me so long to get into the game as it was just so different to anything else. But once I got going it felt far more like the classic Silent Hill games where it was about constent tension rather than just scary moment or overwhelming moments.
@Ilyn For sure! That tension where you're hiding waiting for one of them to turn around is so real. That stuff sticks with you when you're playing at 3 in the morning. lol
