Xbox's 10 Top-Rated Games Of The Year Are Matching Very Closely To 2023

2023 was a corker of a year on Xbox. We had some amazing releases that led to a record-breaking year for video games on Metacritic - at least for the last 20 years anyway. Having said that, 2024 is looking pretty bloody good as well, and the aggregate platform has the numbers to prove it.

Last year's top 10 contained some fantastic games, including Baldur's Gate 3 which managed an incredible 99 Metacritic score on Xbox. Overall, the site's top 10 Xbox releases achieved an average score of 91 in 2023 - and the top 10 average for 2024 currently sits at 90.

Here's how the 2024 top 10 is looking right now:

  2. Metaphor: ReFantazio (92)
  3. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (92)
  4. Shin Megami Tensei V (92)
  5. Tekken 8 (89)
  6. Destiny 2: The Final Shape (89)
  7. Neon White (88)
  8. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (87)
  9. Unicorn Overlord (87)
  10. Botany Manor (87)

And here was the final top 10 list for 2023:

  1. Baldur's Gate 3 (99)
  2. The Witcher 3 - Complete Edition (94) - digital launched in late 2022, physical early 2023
  3. Diablo 4 (91)
  4. Resident Evil 4 Remake (91)
  5. Alan Wake 2 (90)
  6. Street Fighter 6 (90)
  7. Dead Space (89)
  8. Cocoon (89)
  9. Persona 4 Golden (89)
  10. Sea of Stars (89)

Of course, it goes without saying that the 2024 list isn't finished yet, with Xbox titles like Stalker 2, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 still to come out. This year could even end up beating 2023 if those titles score highly!

That would certainly surprise us, with 2023 feeling like a real high point of the generation so far - but, let's see how things are shaping up in a couple of months here. Regardless of whether that 2024 number moves up, it's been another great year for game releases on Xbox.
