A new report has landed today that suggests Microsoft is looking to refresh its official wireless headset for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. According to outlet dealabs, this new version of the 2021 headset is coming to market later this month - starting in Europe.
Now, what's strange here is that well-known leaker billbil-kun hasn't been able to pinpoint any major changes to the headset, besides a slight price bump. According to the insider, the headset will cost an extra $10 when it launches on October 22nd in Europe and November 5th in the US.
The outlet also reports that several retailers are sold out of the current headset, suggesting that they're waiting for this refresh to update stock. The source claims that from what they've heard, the headset will again be black in colour, and that when it comes to packaging and design differences, "there's a good chance that these differences will be very minimal or non-existent".
So yeah, we're not entirely sure of the point of this upcoming headset refresh, unless Microsoft comes out to confirm more details on this in the coming weeks. It's also worth noting that this is just a report for now of course, so the info contained within shouldn't be taken as gospel until Xbox confirms it, or this thing hits store shelves.
Do you use this Xbox headset? Interested in what a refresh will bring? Tell us your thoughts down below.

I already own this headset and it still works great. If you're still looking for a wireless headset, you can't really go wrong with this one in my opinion.
I bought the B&O Portal Headset when I found it less than Half-Price but wanted something else as a 'back-up' in case it wasn't or ran out of charge. I bought the Xbox Headset for that reason but it quickly became my primary Headset.
Sound wise, it certainly has more punch and bass to it which works well for Video games - the explosions and gun-fire feel more impactful than with my B&O and the battery seems to last quite well too.
I'd be interested in seeing what they do if they were to refresh it. Ideally, I'd prefer either better quality materials or at least replaceable ear cups/pads as the 'pleather' can get grotty and peal. At least replaceable batteries and/or ear cups could at least add some repairability and/or longevity as rechargeable batteries don't last forever.
For its cost, I'd say the Xbox Headset punched well above its price point considering all the other wireless Licensed Headsets from other Brands - but then they don't need to pay for the License like other brands. If they don't do anything for a 'refresh', even if it is a 'bit' more expensive now, I'd still highly recommend it!
This headset is absolutely amazing. And for that price is heck of a deal.
Honestly find it better than lot of the $200-$300 headsets out there. Including turtle beach.
Its a great headset that competes well with other more expensive options...
That said didn't think I'd miss the days they would use a design change (even a colour) in the refresh to hide a price rise.
It's wild to me that at a time when Xbox consumers are demoralised they are apprently just changing the box of an accessory to ask for more money.
Obivously if it ends up doing anything different, disrguard the tangent
@BAMozzy You can replace the ear pads - I've got two and my dogs chewed them on one of them.
About 5 quid on Amazon, they just stretch over the base of each ear
I still have the one I got years ago and it works just fine (even if the leather has seen better days). Though I would gladly trade the microphone (which I don't use) for the ability to connect it via cable to older devices.
Was interested in buying it years ago but didn’t because of the post on Reddit saying there’s a noticeable delay in the sound.
Will be interesting to see if the refresh will be the same.
(Or maybe the post on Reddit are overreacting.. they do that sometimes 😆 )
@Widey85 That's not quite the same as having replaceable pads - even in different materials or colours for customisation purposes.
There are likely 'workarounds' but I think it would be better to have options built in to replace or 'customise' your headset - maybe even to match the 'Custom' controller options in design labs.
Maybe you can choose to have cloth or 'pleather', have some replaceable parts that 'colour' match a Controller etc - some other headsets have some 'customisation' options and/or replaceable cups...
I'm not too bothered with a wireless headset since the controller has a 3.5mm port so I just plug a wired headset into that, and don't need to bother with a wire trailing to the console.
Great headset for the price. Even better with Dolby Atmos plugin.
I just hope they fix some bugs like crackling sounds that requiere cleaning quick resume and reboot. Or be able to not boot the Xbox when the headset set is turn on (for use with PC, or Switch, for example).
@jolteon23 Got one myself and it works pretty well.
Hopefully the new one can power up the bluetooth connection without switching on the Xbox!
@Widey85 can you share the Amazon link?
@MrFrosty I've got 2 pair and never noticed a delay in sound
@MSX Think I was misremembering five quid, must have been more like 10 - these are the ones I got, they're now just under 15 but I imagine there's others on Amazon too:

@Widey85 Thanks
@MSX curse Reddit.. 😡
But seriously, as I see absolutely no one complain about delay here I’m definitely going to pick these up to replace my old (starting to fall apart) steelseries 3.
Thanks for the reply
This headset is my daily driver for past couple of years for work meetings. I spend 4+ hours everyday in online meetings and probably need to charge it once a week. I occasionally use it for gaming and sound quality is exceptional for the price.
Hopefully they allow you to extend the size a bit more, I bought the Starfield edition and it barely fits my head at full extension without it pushing into my hair and hurting after an hour. Just 1-2 more notches and it would be perfect for the price point. The sound quality and design is good.
I have these and use them for everything, my phone doesn't have a 3.5mm jack so Bluetooth headphones are needed and these deliver a more than acceptable music sound. Replaced £250 Astro A50 wireless which suffered periodic drops in connection and the Xbox headset simply sounds better.
My only big gripe, is when watching blurays, the xbox xometimes needs a reboot to fix crackling during high sound parts (like Sarduka (sp) chanting in Dune). That's my only real gripe. The turning the Xbox on when I only want them for bluetooth is just a tiny frustration, been happily living with that.
I'll be keen to see what's changed in the refresh, if they've fixed my gripe then I'll snap them up.
I've had this headset for about 2 years now, and although it's uncomfortable to wear during the warmer seasons, the Xbox Wireless Headset HAS IT ALL. For $99 for the original headset, you WILL get your money's worth.
One thing I'd really like to emphasize is the bass that comes from these things is THEATRICAL to say the very least. Worth it. Worth it. Worth it.
I got the anniversary edition of one of these for $50. Great deal.
