Spooky ghost hunter Phasmophobia finally hits consoles this week, including Xbox Series X|S, and ahead of launch the team has revealed all of the game's technical details on each platform.
The good news here is that both current-gen Xbox consoles hit 60FPS - which is nice to see, especially for Xbox Series S. However, what's perhaps most surprising is that Xbox Series X seems to be the only console with 120FPS support - both Xbox Series S and PS5 miss out for now, with PSVR2 having its own unique setup of course.
It's worth noting that you'll need a 120Hz compatible TV to play at this higher frame rate - and chances are this will be a 120FPS target rather than a locked figure. Still, Series X players with the right TV setup - have at it.
Just over a week ago, Kinetic Games eventually unveiled Phasmophobia's console release date; the game hits Xbox Series X|S on October 29th. It's been a long road for this one to finally come to console, but at least it looks like Series X players are getting the definitive console experience - until PS5 Pro comes out anyway!
Who's thinking of checking out Phasmophobia on Xbox, then? Tell us your thoughts on it down below.

Interesting indeed
PS5 Pro: Hold my beer
I have watched people play this normally and don't even want to imagine playing it in VR. That seems like a sure fire way to have a heart attack.
In before all the ‘Paid framerate exclusivity!’ whistleblowers
Considering you walk around at a snail's pace in the dark and this isn't a shooter, 120 FPS is not really essential for this title anyway.
What weird is PSVR2 is running at 60FPS and it is rendering the game twice. Once for each eye.
So how isn't the PS5 capable of 120 on it? All I can figure is meow beautifying effects then have turned on for the non VR version.
That said, this is a slow paced game. The place 120fps would have been important is the PSVR2 side to smooth jerky movements when you inevitably get spooked in game.
@InterceptorAlpha something to do with resolution and foveated rendering perhaps? I imagine this would be great in VR!
@sikthvash Ah wait. Yes, I forgot the PSVR2 has eye tracked FOVeated rendering on PS5.
That'll do it.
We always knew the Series X is the world's most powerful console.
@sikthvash and yet the PS5 can't do it....
@Major_Player until Nov 7, anyway.
@AgentGuapo : $700.00 price tag on a PS5 pro that can't enhance every game right out of the box?...that would be called "more powerful if the patch exist"...lol
@Major_Player soooo. I see we’re choosing to ignore the game boost feature.
Xbox owners are LAUGHING at "sad" PS5 fanboys!!! Even with the PS5 Pro, the Series X is STILL the most powerful console on the market! I knew I made the right decision going with the Series X this generation and this is just MORE PROOF!!!! XD XD XD
@AgentGuapo : If that boost is as significant as the "boost" the PS4 pro players got then Sony need to start refunding those PS5 pro pre-orders....That infamous ps4 pro Tomb Raider boost comparison comes to mind.
A boost without a developer's patch it can only go as far as the game's code can allow....we could even see game crashes if the PS5 pro tries to load the game faster than what the game was originally coded for....now for stability purposes I can see a bunch of patches being released for the PS5 pro instead of actual enhancements.
Ponies are upset
This game still handles and feels like a Unity demo. I have no idea what the devs have been doing with all the money from the game but I've sure not seen any go back into it.
20 quid says this gets patched in at a later date.
Well Xbox SX has a better CPU than PS5 and PS5 PRO as well. The devs who care can achieve better fps on xbox. The best example is space marine where we have 55-60 on xbox and 35-50 on Ps5 (noticable dips to mid 30s are frequent). It all comes down to lack of support for xbox. I am sure if sales were on par with PS we could see way more games on xbox outperforming PS.
@Weebleman I agree, probably when the PS5 Professional releases.
@Millionski the devs who care? Black ops 6 runs at 120 fps on PS5 and, according to head to heads, it holds it more often than the SX. And they own the dev.
My guess is this is down to time, the fire they had which caused a huge delay and prioritising that the PSVR2 version worked properly.

@AgentGuapo you are proud of the 30fps PS5 Pro?
@Weebleman PS5 is also running blurry.
@KvallyX will all be patched. Same way when xbox games don't run the same as PS5, or run at a lower level. They all get patched. Nothing to do with plastic boxes this one, just optimisation. Which again, was likely impacted by their place of work nigh on burning down.
Edit: not sure if you are on about phasmophobia or blops 6 there actually. I haven't seen anything saying it's blurry. Not saying it isn't, just no evidence that I've seen. Be happy to read a source if you have one.
@KvallyX this comment aged well considering it's now been proven false.
@Weebleman just the opposite. It was confirmed true by DF.
@KvallyX literally confirmed on this very website that the game runs the best on the base PS5. Resolutions are a match, no issues with textures. I suggest you have a look.
Edit: by no issues, I mean on one machine over the other.
I have watched the DF video and they made it perfectly clear that the PS struggles with clarity vs. the Xbox version. The PS had to give up graphics for performance sadly.
