A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is coming to Xbox consoles next week, and in the run up to launch, the team at Saber Interactive have unveiled a neat feature that we thought had been left behind with Xbox Kinect a decade ago.
Basically, the upcoming horror title will feature an optional 'Microphone Noise Detection' mechanic - where the game's monsters can detect the player through sounds made in real life. Here's how the feature works in The Road Ahead:
"By activating your microphone, this optional feature lets the game’s deadly creatures detect every sound you make in real life, bringing the horror right into your room. Get a glimpse of what it’s like when any noise can betray you with the game’s new “Survive in Silence” live-action trailer!"
That live action trailer is viewable up above to give you an idea of how the feature will work in-game! If you remember, this was a thing for Alien: Isolation way back in 2014 - but that version of the mechanic required a Kinect sensor on Xbox One.
Speaking of Alien: Isolation, it's all-go in the world of horror right now. Yesterday, the teams at Creative Assembly and SEGA announced that a sequel to the cult hit is now in development! That Alien: Isolation follow-up sounds a long way off for now, but A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is just around the corner - landing for Xbox consoles on October 17th.
Tell us if you remembered this old Kinect feature down in the comments!

Just another example of why the kinect was awesome. Such shame it was not received well. All the haters that never used it (bet lot were Playstation fanboys) just gave it bad name.
Just one more great Microsoft product not marketed well.
Manhunt on the original Xbox and PS2 had that feature too, you could lure enemies by speaking into the mic.
That's it. They sold me. That is an ingenious mechanic.
Wish it was coming to game pass. I've spent too much on games and subscriptions recently.
Cool idea, until the mic picks up the sound of someone slamming a car door outside or the neighbors dog starts barking its tiny idiot head off.
Not trying to downplay the cool idea here. Just realizing how easy accidental sabotage can be with this enabled.
Kinetic was totally crap for gaming but useful elsewhere this is pointless just don't wear a headset and your quiet I don't get what this is about??
