Out of nowhere, just as the game becomes 10 years old, Creative Assembly and SEGA have announced that Alien: Isolation is officially getting a sequel. The 2014 horror effort has gone on to become a real fan-favourite over the years, and players will no-doubt be delighted by this announcement.
Taking to social media today, the first game's creative director Al Hope put out a message for Alien: Isolation fans as the game's sequel officially gets the green light. Here's that statement in full:
"To our fans around the world: It’s hard to believe that it has been 10 years since we embarked on our journey with the release of ALIEN: ISOLATION. "
"When we started developing ALIEN: ISOLATION, we had one guiding principle: to create a truly authentic experience that went back to the roots of the ALIEN franchise - a new story capturing the atmosphere and terror of the original 1979 movie masterpiece.
It’s been nothing short of incredible to witness your passion for the game over the years and see it reach so many players around the world.
On the 10th anniversary, it seems only fitting to let you know that we have heard your distress calls loud and clear.
Today, I’m delighted to confirm, on behalf of the team, that a sequel to ALIEN: ISOLATION is in early development. We look forward to sharing more details with you when we’re ready.
Once again, thank you.
Until next time, Al Hope, Creative Director – ALIEN: ISOLATION"
As you can see there, this is very much an 'early-in-development' announcement, and as such, there's nothing like a launch window or target platforms ready to unveil here. All we know is that the original teams are working on an Alien: Isolation sequel, which is fantastic news all round!
Back in the day — yes, we can say that about this game now — Pure Xbox scored Alien: Isolation an 8/10 - we definitely dug this take on the Alien franchise back in 2014 and are eager to see where the series goes next.
Who's hyped for this one, then? Tell us your immediate thoughts on this announcement down below!

Kinda surprised it's happening, now, 10 years later.
But man am I down for more. I was lucky the game's random nature gave me a "just right" experience (My brother struggled because it always seemed to be there harassing him, no time to build anticipation)
Isolation was a great game.
The DLC showed a lot of love too for the original film.
Well this is weird, I started playing this again the other day out of the blue, and wondered why they had never made a sequel.
Starting the week with great and positive news. Let's go!
Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, and now this! Sega please don't let me down
This is long overdue, but I'm glad it's happening!
Nice, a great game, so it's great to see a sequel finally coming! But man, it's so wild to me that this game was almost a decade ago...
Only ones not excited are ign. 😁
I remember trying this and being annoyed by the weird control scheme. I didn't get too far but I should try again. I really don't know why it bothered me so much.
Just in time for the movie …… oh wait
Fantastic, AO was a incredible experience.
Let's hope this one doesn't skip Xbox.
