At the tail end of last month, we began hearing reports that Ubisoft's free-to-play shooter XDefiant was in trouble due to dwindling player numbers, but this week, the company has come out swinging in defence of the Xbox FPS.
In a new blog post dropped on the eve of the game's second season, Ubisoft San Francisco says that XDefiant is "absolutely not dying", adding that Ubisoft at large is backing them, allocating "more resources to the team" to help improve the game.
Here's their statement on the recent rumours surrounding XDefiant:
"I just want to quickly address the status of the game. i.e. is the game dying? No, the game is absolutely not dying. We know there are things we need to improve like Netcode/Hitreg and adding more content to progression, but the game is doing well. We just want it to do better. And we do that by addressing the concerns of our community which has always been the plan. Ubisoft is very much behind us and has allocated more resources to the team in order for us to do that."
In addition to this open and frank response, the developer has also given fans a bit more detail on its upcoming seasonal content plans. Season 4 has now been added onto its roadmap — although the team is still figuring out the finer details of that season — while the already announced Seasons 2 and 3 now have more detail. We'll throw Ubisoft's XDefiant Year 1 roadmap down below.
We might have to give this game another go when Season 2 drops - we quite enjoyed its launch period before getting caught up playing a million other things. There's just too much to play, but hopefully we can find some more time for XDefiant in the near future!
