You're going to have to cast your mind back a long way for this one, as The Last Ninja Collection is officially bringing seven games from the '80s and '90s to Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S at some point in 2025.
The entire Last Ninja series from the Commodore 64 is included here, as well as the Amiga and Spectrum versions where possible. You also get International Karate, IK+ and Bangkok Nights - all titles that were released in the late '80s.
Here's the full list of games included with The Last Ninja Collection:
- The Last Ninja (1987)
- Last Ninja 2 (1988)
- Last Ninja 3 (1991)
- Ninja Remix (1990)
- International Karate (1985)
- International Karate+ (1987)
- Bangkok Knights (1988)
If you're interested in getting the Xbox version of The Last Ninja Collection, you can actually pre-order it right now via the game's Kickstarter campaign with multiple limited edition versions available - the price starts at £50 in the UK.
The one downside of the Xbox version is that the company can't commit to a physical disc release due to "Microsoft's new publishing policy" - apparently they're in discussions to try and secure an exception. If that happens, a disc version may become available, but otherwise it sounds like we'll have to make do with a digital download in a "collector's pack".
You'll find many more details over on the Kickstarter page, and here's a bit more about the idea behind the collection:
"This collection brings together the entire Last Ninja series of C64 versions along with Amiga and Spectrum versions, where available, for the first time. Not only are we offering The Last Ninja, Last Ninja 2, Last Ninja 3 and Ninja Remix, we are also adding the critically acclaimed International Karate, (the first European game to top the USA C64 billboard charts), IK+ and Bangkok Knights.
These games were milestones in the gaming industry, pushing the boundaries of what was possible with the technology of the time and making them available to play on PS4, PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and Windows PC."

I remember being blown away by the graphics of the last Ninja. Those old isometric pixel games were amongst my favourite aesthetically in that era. Oh and as a bonus, the the last Ninja 2 came with a Ninja mask and poster folded up in its meaty packaging. Not sure I'd want to play them again though. In my experience, gaming nostalgia is a box best left unopened.
Yeah, no. While the music is timeless, the gameplay is most certainly not. Of the included games, only IK+ in three player mode could maybe still be enjoyable today (for a couple of minutes).
Back in the day, the graphics on the C64 of the Last Ninja games were outstanding to be sure. I love watching someone else play it.
@Echtzeit And they're not putting a gun to your head and demanding you play the games. For retro gaming lovers, this is a love letter to that time when people spent longer waiting for the game to load than the entire time you spent actually playing.
I remember the Last Ninja and Last Ninja 2 - I had both on my C64 - but I have absolutely NO desire to return back to the C64 era of Games or Game Design.
If they decided to update the Last Ninja for a modern era and built specifically for Modern Hardware, then I'd be interested. I think they could really bring back a LOT of old games and reinvent them for a modern Era.
I know that some 'purists' will hate the idea of changing too much - like going from an isometric design with sprites to a fully 3D third Person action adventure game for example but I'd rather they actually rebuilt games as if they were building these for the first time today. I bet the OG Devs wouldn't have kept the Same design and Game-play with far less limited Hardware.
Each to their own but I don't own ANY of the Boxes of Games I bought from the 80's and 90's now and wouldn't replay them if I still did anyway. I don't play on my 360 or 360 era games anymore, nor my PS3 or any era before. I barely play PS4/XB1 era games as most of my gaming time is occupied by games released in the past 2-3yrs and will be occupied in the next few months on Brand New games/content - BO6, Shattered Space, Indiana Jones etc...
The narrator of that video really sold the compilation.
😁 Wow! I remember Last Ninja 2 back on the Amiga, I too was a big fan of the isometric view. This always reminds me of another isometric game I used to play called Cadaver, the graphic style was amazing for it's time.... 😌
