Starfield launched just about a year ago now, and at the time, Bethesda said that it was ready to support the game for at least five years - including DLC, updates, in-game tweaks and the likes. Well, a year on, the team is still hoping Starfield sticks around for that long, maybe even longer.
As part of a recent interview with The Gamer, Starfield's creative producer Tim Lamb was asked if the game could last as long as Skyrim; the team's seminal Xbox 360 RPG. Lamb says that he "hopes so", and that the developer has "ideas going around" in that regard.
"We do plan to support our games for a long time. So we always have ideas going around in various levels of completeness, but we're always working on something.
We want to continue to support the game for a long time, and I hope that we're able to bring as much joy as I feel like I'm seeing with Shattered Space and the REV-8."
Of course, the REV-8 land vehicle was just added for all players, while the game's Shattered Space expansion arrives at the end of September. There is some excitement for the big add-on, especially with it sounding like a more hand-crafted experience for the spacefaring RPG.
Not that long ago, Todd Howard also confirmed that the team was already hard at work on the game's second major expansion, so yeah, it sounds like there's plenty more to come from Starfield yet!
Do you see Starfield being relevant for that long? Tell us what you think down below.

You can't fault the commitment, and it's nice to see.
I am also aware that some people absolutely love this title, so maybe it does have a long future ahead of it.
I'm afraid I'd rather play skyrim than go back to this title, but for those that loved it, this must be exciting news.
I have already been getting the itch to replay it (my 5th new game+ if i continue the save). I'm sure it will find it's way to the Bethesda cycle I have where I replay my favorites every couple years.
I slated starfield when it was released it was a mess of a game but the commitment Bethesda have shown is good and the frame rates have improved however the game isn't a patch on skyrim at all and just not a good game at all
I'm guessing just how supported it'll be depends on how well the DLC do.
I enjoyed it, I don't see the primary flaw I had being addressed (actually flying to planets) I'll be playing it again this month to get a NG+ ready for the DLC and starting a modded save once that's done.
I completely get why some don't like it but I love it (probably for exact the same reasons lol)
The Rev-8 has been pretty fun, I look forward to the unexpected updates from the team a bit more.
I'll be playing it as long as they support it. For me Starfield is one of the best RPGs of all time, the concept of an Elder Scrolls in space is something I've always dreamed of.
sorry i just dont feel that way about starfield. the main story and world just didnt suck me in
its a fine 7/10 game for me
I hope they continue to add to it. The new vehicle is fun to drive and the game is still surprising me over 150 hours in.
I highly recommend the new creation mission escape! It is a paid add on but is truly one of the best missions in the whole game
I'm looking forward to Shattered Space and returning to that universe. There was so much unfulfilled potential there that I hope a second (and third) bite at the cherry solves some of the issues the base game had. Fingers crossed.
I mean, I admire their enthusiasm. But, no. Never going to be a Skyrim. Starfailed is just not a good overall game. Not much can change that. My advice to Bethesda is to fail less. Make better games and gamers will play them more. Problem solved.
I mean. A year later and I still pick it up every now and then to mess around even though I have played all missions and unlocked aøø achievements.
@BacklogBrad I'm at NG+ 7 and i am forlorn, each time is mind numbing, constellation has become a means to an end where i just use them to get the artifacts as quickly as possible bringing them along to take enemy fire off of me.
NG+ in this game is Dante's inferno, i just want an option to destroy the armillary at NG+ 10 then go back to the original universe.
@Deityjester I started a NG+ but then was thinking of the ending of Undertale when you take the pacifist route & you get that (SPOILER alert) pop-up telling you to let the character's be as they are. Then I went back to my last save on my first play through & have actually been enjoying the game a lot more. Getting a lot dialogue from Andreja and I think it's tying into the Shattered Space DLC. Plus I get all the ships I crafted for hours. Maybe will do NG+ eventually but still so much left to explore in my first universe. Haven't even touched all the galaxies let alone the planets. I hope there's an update that just adds more character to certain regions of space instead of recycling all the bases, that's as bad as looping with Constellation and just getting to the artifacts. If they made creative dungeons & badass bosses that related to the power you were getting and they were weak to certain Powers you can obtain this would make replays & the artifacts WAY more interesting. Think this game was truly missing major, interesting boss fights. More unique dungeons & bosses would add a lot of longevity to this game.
@Deityjester You are the Hunter now.
Well, I didn't play it that long. But that doesn't mean, I didn't like it.
I will definitely return to it and I'm also looking forward to that DLC.
