Xbox Will Reportedly Tone Down Its Game Pass Messaging For Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6

A day one Xbox Game Pass release for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 may be a big deal to us here at Pure Xbox, and lots of Game Pass subscribers we'd imagine, but it appears that Xbox might not be leaning wholly into its subscription service to market this year's COD release.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Iron Lords Podcast, two well-known Xbox creators discussed Black Ops 6 and how Xbox's approach towards Game Pass might be a little different with this title. Here's what IGN and Kinda Funny contributor Parris Lilly had to say on the topic, along with a link to the podcast clip:

"While I was at Treyarch, and these were off the record conversations, the people involved shall remain nameless [...] we we having a conversation about Game Pass and the impact that they think it's going to have on Black Ops 6. Some people at Treyarch think it is going to be a big deal on Game Pass, but you're not going to see that big marketing push that you would expect, where Game Pass is uttered every other word."

Of course, it goes without saying that these conversations can't be 100% verified, and this information should be taken with caution given that it sounds like a pretty casual conversation over at Treyarch during a recent hands-on preview session at the studio.

Still, with Call of Duty's massive sales figures each and every year outside of Xbox Game Pass, we're not surprised to hear hints that Microsoft is keen to keep this going for Black Ops 6. Only time will tell how the team's new approach will affect game sales - we're just hoping that Xbox gets what it wants out of both Game Pass and sales revenue from this year's Call of Duty title.
