Xbox first-party developer Obsidian Entertainment — the team behind Grounded, The Outer Worlds, Pentiment and more — is seemingly working another unannounced project over at Microsoft HQ.
Spotted on LinkedIn, Obsidian art director Daniel Cabuco has added a curious July update to their online resume. As of last month, Cabuco is listed as "Art Director on unannounced title" at Obsidian Entertainment.
Now, we know that the team is still working away on Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, and Grounded & Pentiment have still been getting plenty of attention with their recent multiplatform ports. Even with those all accounted for under Obsidian's roof, the team still appears to be spinning up another new project.
Back in March, the team did announce that the big 1.4 update for its backyard survival sim was the last major content drop for that particular game, so, maybe the Grounded team has moved on to something new here? We're not quite sure, but, we're struggling to see how else they'd find the time for another new Xbox title. We're not complaining though - keep the Obsidian games coming!
What would you like this new project to be? Tell us your top choices and ideas down below.

After the success of the Fallout show it'd be a no brainer for Obsidian to work on a sequel to New Vegas. I wouldn't be surprised if Xbox leadership is trying to push them in that direction, especially while Bethesda's occupied with Starfield and Elder Scrolls.
Hope they are not stretching this Studio to thinning so we end up with average games
And game delays.
I still believe that was some of the issue with 343 during the Halo Infinite programme. Having to make a game for Xbox one, series s and x, PC and cloud devices. Single play campaign and various online play and other features, all to be released simultaneously together.
I look forward to playing it in 7-8 years
Obsidian is quietly Microsoft's star player, always with multiple projects of varying scope on the go. Although, hopefully they're getting the manpower to do their jobs well and without too much stress, and not being spread too thin like @OldGamer999 mentioned.
@Markatron84
Well it looks like Avowed is getting delayed until 2025, with some weird PR excuse.
If others in the studio had been working on the game it could have probably released in 2024.
One of the greatest devs in the industry. Everything they do is great.
@sporesmoldsfungus You'd think so. If it wasn't for the fact that New Vegas was repeatedly given the shaft. Short development time. Improper funding.
Hell, even with backwards compatibility it was ignored. You got FPS boost and you will be happy with that alone.
Meanwhile the arguable worse Fallout 3 got 4k support, and a bunch of other enhancements. Even the much older Oblivion was given more love. 😭
And I'm saying this all not as long time New Vegas fan, but someone that played through it for the first time this year.
@BacklogBrad KOTOR 2 would have been better than first one(minus THAT TWIST), if they got time to do it. Also Alpha Protocol was severely over lookded
And the game is already delayed.
@abe_hikura I like that you factored in the inevitable delays.
Fallout New Vegas 2 please
Obsidian is almost carrying the entire Xbox Game Studios division. Insomniac-style.
I wish we’d just get outer wilds remastered on game pass already.
Grounded is about their only game I don’t care about.
@sporesmoldsfungus the fallout fever will be long past in 4-5 years when it comes out… unless the tv show is still going strong
@sporesmoldsfungus I dig your spores molds and fungus collection tho! Jeanine secretly does too.
