Last week, it was revealed that the iconic Game Informer was shutting down after 33 years, and since then the outlet's website has been restricting any access. As things stand, everything redirects to a message about its closure.
That's bad news for a lot of people - in particular, the writers who want to access their work - and it even has an effect on BioWare's Dragon Age: The Veilguard, with EA working alongside GI on a bunch of exclusive content recently.
As mentioned, there is no official way to access a whole bunch of pre-release coverage for Dragon Age: The Veilguard on Game Informer's website as things stand, with the series' fanbase rushing to save what they can via archive.org instead. It remains to be seen whether the powers that be will make Game Informer's old articles visible once more.
Ultimately, this is a terrible situation for everyone involved, and that includes the loyal readers of the magazine and website over the past few decades. Game Informer has undoubtedly had a huge impact on many of us, and we wish the best to those who have been directly impacted by the closure over the past few days.
As for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, EA will surely be looking to find a new home for exclusive content, and don't forget that we've also taken a look at it recently - you can check out our DA: The Veilguard preview elsewhere on Pure Xbox:

I smell a lawsuit from EA. No way GameStop gets away with this.
Holy cow. I had no idea Game Informer was getting shut down.
It's staggering the ruthlessness of how this has been done. They've basically just clicked the OFF button and everything is gone. Feel for the people who woke up on Saturday morning without a job. Sounds like they heard about it around the same time as the rest of us.
This is really rough.
Hoping Edge doesn't go the same way. I love their long form articles.
@GamingFan4Lyf neither did the staff at Game Informer. Apparently, one member of staff was even away on assignment when it happened.
Shutting down the website so it just links to a landing page is a colossal d*ck move on GameStop's part. If any of the staff wants to look for a new job within the industry, there's no way for them to point potential new employers to their past work. Absolutely disgusting behaviour.
I guess ol diamond hands couldn't even HODL onto 12 employees.
Huh, well I have the physical copy at home. I’m sure people can find backups online, but if anyone can’t and wants to view it, I can take some pictures of the coverage and upload them tonight.
This reminds me I need to cancel the renewal on my GS pro as rapidly as possible. I'll be sad when my local GS closes, it's nice having at least a
game specificteen apparel store nearby, but....they're pretty rock bottom and GI was the one thing that still gave them a good image. When I was kid and older adult, thinking back on the great gaming magazines I loved to read monthly. Nintendo Power, game pro, game Informer, official Xbox magazine.
I miss the good days.
And Gamestop gave crap to MS about shutting down the 360 store a few weeks ago. What was that about preserving stuff Gamestop??
***** joke Gamestop is. It's a wonder they are still in business.
@GamingFan4Lyf Sadly neither did the staff until last thing on Friday when they were all let go and the site was shut down! 😧😔
@PartyMarty @Markatron84 That is so [expletive] up!
Don't american companies have some sort of consultation period? Like in UK, if it's closing down then redundancy will be offered either paid my parent company or gvt
@el_pieablo that's because the UK has things like unions, and labour/employment laws that aren't *****.
@el_pieablo I can only speak for GameStop but in general most of the non corporate positions are at will. I’ve seen store managers seemingly let go with no notice. So I would expect that if GI did have unions when they were bought out then they are just as at will. Most companies try not to do this to positions that are more likely to sue or report them to the labor board due to the headaches involved but if GS needs that money or is thinking about chapter 11, they may not care.
@Markatron84 Freedom in the US means every man, woman, child, corporation etc for themselves. The economy overall may benefit somewhat but people are merely pawns. I'm grateful to work for an NYC city agency with a strong union. Coming from the UK, this and good health insurance are my top priorities over the job position itself even - that's a sad reality in the US which, because of this and other societal ills, actually finds itself anywhere between 22nd and 32nd on the human freedom index. Pretty ironic don't ya think!
@16BitHero bUt AmErIcA iS tHe GrEaTeSt NaTiOn oN eArTh 🤪
@GuyinPA75 this and e3. Especially when you'd have to wait for the magazines packed with all the e3 info because the shows weren't streamed.
I can pick up an old GamePro magazine from a drawer in my old bedroom at my mom's house and read a 30-yr old article from 1994. Just sayin'.
