Last month, we heard that EA's new College Football game had led to a big spike in Xbox Series X|S sales, and now we're starting to see how that's all unfolding. According to Circana's Mat Piscatella (NPD), College Football 25 is now the best-selling game in the US this year.
These figures are taking the first seven months of 2024 into account, with the analyst gathering some interesting sales stats up to and including July 2024 over on Twitter. Here's where Piscatella drops the College Football bombshell:
Again, we're seeing a hint there that CF 25 is also driving hardware sales across the industry, which is great news all round. This particular EA Sports title is current-gen-only on console, so it makes sense that the likes of Xbox Series X|S and PS5 are benefitting massively from its success.
Alongside being current-gen-only, it helps that this long-awaited title is really quite good as well. We've reviewed the Xbox Series X version here at Pure Xbox, and we're mighty impressed by College Football 25 after such a long wait for a new College Football game. Touchdown!

So how many have actually been sold then?
That list is indicative that sales are likely way down overall in software this year as Suicide Squad is in the top 20 and was considered a massive flop.
Not surprising really. There hasn't been a College Football game in 10 years. I know people who held on to their Xbox 360 just to play the last College Football game.
@somnambulance my guess is that with the heavy discounts, people are trying out SS. Yet Hogwarts still is outperforming and yet WB still cashing in and hopefully learned a lesson but think not….
Massive pent up demand, I can’t believe it took them so long after NIL deals were approved.
Good news for Cfb 25
