Despite Xbox Woes, Capcom Says It Wants More Classic Fighting Games On 'Modern Consoles'

Capcom has been on a huge roll over the past few years with a string of incredible releases, but a couple of months ago there was controversy when it was revealed the Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection wouldn't be coming to Xbox.

For now, this collection of classic games is only slated for Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Steam later in the year, and it's seemingly due to Capcom's MT Framework engine not being particularly compatible with modern Xbox consoles.

Despite this, Capcom producer Shuhei Matsumoto recently spoke to IGN about the launch of the Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, indicating that there's interest to bring more classic fighting games to "modern consoles":

"We have a lot of other legacy fighting games that we know fans out there really want them to be re-released again on modern platforms. And the feeling is mutual on the development side. We want people to get to know all these other classic games."

"We want all our classic games to be available for modern consoles because we just want to be able to reach as many people who may have never had the opportunity to play these games back in the day. So we constantly think forward and we want to make sure that it's as accessible as possible for all audiences."

So, perhaps there's hope after all? If Xbox could step in and work with Capcom to find a solution for these re-releases, there's every chance the Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection along with other classics could hit Xbox eventually.

Of course, this is an isolated incident when it comes to Capcom releases on Xbox — their games don't usually skip the platform — so it'd be great to see the two parties work together to resolve this issue in the future.
