We mentioned last how week how the highly-anticipated action RPG Black Myth: Wukong had received some pretty excellent reviews ahead of its launch, and now the game is officially available for PC and PlayStation 5.
And yeah... it's going to be huge, folks. As things stand, Black Myth: Wukong has an "all-time peak" of nearly 1.5 million concurrent players, which places it fourth in the all-time charts ahead of the likes of Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077.
So, what about the Xbox delay? Well, Black Myth: Wukong is still definitely planned for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The original idea was that it would release alongside the PC and PS5 versions, but it was delayed for unknown reasons back in early June.
There's been speculation about why the delay might have happened, from some kind of exclusivity deal to issues with the Xbox Series S version, but the official word is that it's because the team is "currently optimising the Xbox Series X|S version to meet our quality standards".
For now, we're going to have to sit on the sidelines and wait for a further announcement about the Xbox version of Black Myth: Wukong, which remains undated. The good news is that when it arrives, we've got a great game on our hands!
What's Your Plan For Black Myth: Wukong? (253 votes)
- Wait for the Xbox version, of course!
- Get it on PS5 / PC
- I haven't made my mind up yet
- Not really that interested in it to be honest
- It's not for me!

Giving this game that has no release date a lot of coverage.
Feels like you are just teasing Xbox only players at this point!
I got it on PS5 and I’m really enjoying it so far.
Another L for Xbox. Same as Baldurs gate 3, the bulk of players are going to buy this on PC and PS5 and when it’s finally released on Xbox they’ll get lessened sales.
Looks better than I expected on PS5, may pick it up.
@Steel76 I agree with you.
Removed - unconstructive
Not for me - which is unfortunate as there seems to be a new game in this genre every week. But I just can’t get into fighting the same boss 50 times to progress. I don’t have time for that.
I have heard this is less of a soulslike but still difficult; but still 🤷♂️
@WhiteRabbit I’m honestly loving it so far. It reminds me of how games were a few generations back, but with a new coat of paint. I’m really happy we’ve finally gotten a new style of combat in games with this one and Stellar Blade that take elements from God of War, Soulslikes, and even Devil May Cry and do something a little similar, but a little different too. I was a little nervous about this one before playing it, even though I preordered it, but I can safely say now that I’m impressed. On the topic of its story, I like its sparseness and minimalism thus far.
Playing it on ps5 now, Im really enjoying it. You can always get %16 off psn credit, so £46.20 for a day 1 AAA seems good value to me.
Shame the xbox port is delayed... when it arrives its well worth having a go!
Still not really interested to be honest.
@WhiteRabbit I like it. It’s a little bit over the top, but honestly I’m so glad it is. So many games try to play into realism so much nowadays that a pure epic like this is so completely refreshing.
I’m really glad I trusted my gut on this one too. It’s such a unique game so far
Playing Black Myth on PC. I started late last night and only got through the opening and into the first area. The graphics and presentation are impressive. Performance is pretty good so far.
The 24-hour Steam concurrent player peak is 2,223,179 players.
@WhiteRabbit Sony Playstation are serial "moneyhatters" so why wouldn't they be suspected? You can roll back through each year and revisit how they block popular games from PC and Xbox pathologically. Start with the first half of this year. Sony is sneaky with it and obscures the duration of timed-exclusivity. They are sinister with it and a pestilence.
A YouTuber flat out said Sarah Bond alluded to Sony paying for exclusivity/prioritization on Black Myth. Though, I guess those guys are only credible when it is a negative Xbox rumor they're spouting. Soon after, MS themselves commented on how they "cannot comment on the deals made between their partners and other platform holders." Additionally, all mention of the Xbox version of Black Myth was removed from the game's website. Why would a delay make erasure necessary?
@WhiteRabbit "a YouTuber you say?" Yes, and hence my follow up statement of how people find them selectively credible. He didn't say, "I heard a rumor," he quoted the head of Xbox. He named a source, and a prominent one. Microsoft's statement on the Black Myth delay gives his comment great credence.
Something changed late in the game. BM has been hyped up for 3-4 years now. There was no need whatsoever to remove the Xbox platform from the Black Myth website. Plenty of games are delayed and don't scrub mentions of a platform. BG3 was "delayed indefinitely" and did not do this.
Sony's M.O. is leveraging third-parties through paid exclusives, attempting to starve out the competition, and sneakiness. These are the people who fought cross-platform play, and when they finally agreed, charged publishers a penalty 90% of profit from transactions did not come from PS platform. They didn't advertise that loudly; it was reveal in an email leak.
Sony 3rd party deals are not always shouted from the rooftops; they always attempt to kept people in the dark about the duration and specifics. NTM, "moneyhatting" isn't cheap, and they have been busy this year. Hey; at least there's Silent Hill 2 coming.
@theduckofdeath if it was Sony, they would be screaming it from the rooftops. Especially as they are working more on Chinese development etc.
For them to buy exclusivity and then do absolutely nothing with it - including no ps5 gameplay in the lead up - just makes 0 sense. Logically or financially.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner Timed-exclusivity on one of the most anticipated games of the year is "worthless" without actively advertising the fact? OK. BM is doing Palworld numbers on Steam as we speak. The game advertised itself for 4 years.
Deals take many forms; a company could buy an IP, publishing rights, a stake in a studio, fund development (partially or fully), pay for prioritization, or plain stuff wallets. China would have different practices, rules and regulations than the US or UK. All would have different costs attached and not all may be publicized.
Xbox got skipped by biggest game of this year
I have it on PS5, it doesn't run smootly, the game is good, but has huge fps dips in certain situations (water, particle effects) and FSR artifacts are very noticible. It could be worse, its playable, but i recommend PC for this one, i can't see any console doing good wirh this one
