Yes, we all know the score — Black Myth: Wukong was originally announced to be launching day one on Xbox before it got delayed indefinitely for Microsoft's consoles — and the release date is now just four days away for other platforms.
As we're so close, the first reviews have gone live today across the web, and unexpectedly they're pretty impressive on the whole. There are a few surprising scores as well though, with some not so keen on what it has to offer.
Here are some of the reviews we've spotted for Black Myth: Wukong ahead of its delayed Xbox release:
God Is A Geek (10/10)
"A flurry of sublime combat, intuitive level building, and expert boss design, Black Myth: Wukong is, hands-down, one of this year’s best action games."
Hardcore Gamer (9/10)
"Black Myth: Wukong is a phenomenal, enthralling and imaginative experience that’s a must-play for anyone who enjoys Chinese mythology."
IGN (8/10)
"As GameScience’s debut action game, Black Myth: Wukong is mostly a great success, despite some major technical black marks and localization issues that are likely to cause some frustrations at launch."
GameSpot (8/10)
"Black Myth: Wukong is an uneven game where the highlights often outnumber the lowlights. Its triumphant boss battles and fast-paced combat make up for the stale moments in between, where bland level design and a scarcity of enemies will have you clamoring for the next face-off with a deadly Yaoguai."
Windows Central (3.5/5)
"Ultimately, Black Myth: Wukong is a very solid action RPG with its thrilling cinematic boss fights, diverse, gorgeously rendered locales, rich combat system replete with build options, and well-told story. However, it holds itself back with bland level design and disappointing enemy variety, along with a superfluous gear system and a few noteworthy performance issues."
The Sixth Axis (6/10)
"Black Myth: Wukong is a stunning game to look at, but the exploration is lacking, and the fighting is just sort of fine for the most part. It's just a bit uninspiring, and isn't a game that I'm expecting to stick with me for any length of time now that I'm done with it."
As you can see, despite the very respectable 84 Metacritic average for the PC version as things stand (PS5 codes don't appear to have been distributed as of yet), there are a few grumbles here and there in some of these reviews.
Overall though, it's a successful result for the team at Game Science, and now we're very interested to see how the console version fares when it arrives in a few days' time. After that, we're just waiting for an Xbox announcement!
Will you be waiting for Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox? Let us know down in the comments below.

No ones played the ps5 version though apparently so alarm bells are definitely ringing if it's only 30 or a bad 60fps I'm going nowhere near it
Looks like it might be another failure inbound
Sort of sounds like a boss battle game just skimming the above.
Will be interesting to see how it runs. As push square are playing PC and waiting to see how the PS5 runs the game before full review.
Running on PC of the right power the game is beautiful and seem-less at full resolution and 60fps.
I will get Black Myth for PC. There are some reservations in my mind. It's been a long wait.
UPDATE: The Benchmark bodes well for my machine.
At 3440x1440 res, super res 75%, DLSS + Frame Gen, DX12
Max settings with ray tracing:
75 FPS avg, 89 max, 64 min, 66 lower 5th percentile
Max settings without ray tracing:
101 FPS avg, 117 max, 29 min, 91 lower 5th percentile
Sounds like another 7/10 that gets a few better scores because people are addicted to Soulslikes.
I never understood the hype for this game; it looks stunning, but that's about it. In my opinion, fans are so desperate for something new that they'll eagerly embrace anything that looks beautiful.
Just watched the full PC ign review.
So it’s a tough game at times, so sort souls like there.
Seems to be a good list of bugs in the game overall but reviewer did enjoy the game and gave a 8/10.
Why release with bugs included freezing and restarting I will never know.
Will be interesting to see how the PS5 does bugs wise and performance wise.
Can’t wait to play this one next week. Feels like I’ve been waiting ages for a new, big AAA game, so even if there’s a few wriggles, I’m excited.
Looks to be a bit better than Stellar Blade was, based on what I’m reading. I’m hoping it is. I’m glad we’ve hit a Souls-inspired, but not Souls-like style of combat that is working in games this year.
I got this game for "free" since the gaming PC I bought last week had an Nvidia 4070 Super.
I can't wait to give it a go!
It sounds like it runs like ***** on PC and they didn’t even bother sending out PS5 codes. I have a PS5 but I’m just going to wait until it drops on Xbox. They should have the issues fixed by then.
It turns out it was good that Black Myth Wukong was delayed on Xbox. Reviews seem to be praising the core gameplay of BMW (not the car!), but it's plagued with poor performance, glitches and localisation issues. The studio probably will be able to fix those problemas in due time. I'd rather get the game eventually on Xbox, provided that it's running well, than be beta-testing it next week.
Was considering buying it on ps....but think I will pass
Will play it on PS5, been interested in it ever since I saw the announcement trailer back in 2020 and that's kinda the only one I've seen, I tend to stay away from trailers in general.
I'm happy to hear that it seems to be a more old-fashioned linear action game rather than yet another open-world affair.
Based on Gameranx's Before You Buy video, it really sounds like my kind of game.
It's basically a high end PC game. I wouldn't touch this game with a ten foot pole until the next generation of consoles AFTER Xbox Series and PS5.
The benchmark ran...fine on my 7900 xtx with a 12900k.
Had to turn off ray tracing and use frame-gen to get over 100fps. And it didn't look that good. This game only looks good with ray tracing and over 1440p. You basically need a 4080 or 4090.
I love how you make a positive article about a game that is currently not on xbox while on other platforms but if it was reversed, push square would write an article about how bad the game is.
I knew this would just be bang okay but I'll probably play it eventually when it releases on Xbox
@Beetlebum91 Yeah that's the difference between Xbox and PS sites. Lot less fanboy nonsense at Xbox.
@JayJ apparently it's all in my head...
@Mustoe Oh yeah! The thing is a total beast!
I have been playing Lords of the Fallen - native 1440p/DLAA/Cinematic Quality settings/Frame-Gen Off - at around 70fps. Sometimes it dips below 60fps when things get a little too intense, but since my monitor has a 20Hz - 165Hz VRR range, those dips to like 58fps aren’t even noticeable.
I don’t keep the FPS monitor on all the time, though - I mostly use it to get settings right so I’m not stretching my GPU above RAM limits and ignore it.
Just for fun, I ran Alien Isolation without V-Sync and it ran about 500fps. 🤣
Heck even Immortals of Aveum I can run maxed out and get above 60fps.
@Mustoe I plan to slowly replace my PlayStation and Xbox library over time. But it will be when I see games on deep discount first.
I still have my Xbox and PS5, but I rarely use them now.
Any new games I want I will get on PC.
@Beetlebum91 Some people are just really locked into their biases. I ignore and block them. Nothing of value is lost.
@OldGamer999 "Why release with bugs included freezing and restarting"
I mean...you've played triple A releases in the last decade or so right?
Devs have been put under more and more pressure by publishers to release within tighter schedules, if I'm playing a triple A on launch nowdays I'm pretty much expecting for it to be buggy. It's a shame, but it's what business has done to video game development.
