For a while now, we've known that Xbox-owned developer Playground Games has been working on Forza Horizon and Fable simultaneously - and now the team has revealed that the Fable side of the studio is really ramping up.
Spotted on LinkedIn, the Playground Games bio now states that three studios are operating at the British developer, with two of those studios working on Fable while the other is busy crafting the next Forza Horizon title.
"Today, Playground has three world-class studios in Leamington Spa. In our original HQ, we continue to support and grow the huge, vibrant Horizon community. In our new studios on the other side of town, we are excited to be developing Fable, a new beginning for the legendary franchise."
Back in February, Third Kind Games announced that it was assisting Microsoft on the Fable reboot, having previously worked with Playground on optimization for Forza Horizon 4. With Eidos Montreal also helping the team out, it sounds like all hands are on deck with Fable, then!
That's good news, because as we learned during the Xbox Summer Showcase this year, Fable is now officially targeting a 2025 release window on Xbox Series X|S and PC. Here's hoping the project all comes together nicely for a smooth launch next year.

The amount that goes into these games.
Really hope they nail this one spot on.
It’s one of my hang around with series x and GPU games for a while longer, being hopeful.
I have an awful feeling that Fable is not going to see the return on investment - be that sales or Game Pass subs - to warrant the amount of time and money Microsoft will have poured into it at this point. It wouldn't surprise me if we see layoffs at Playground happen late 2025 or early 2026.
This is one of the best development studios in the world, especially in the technical field, they are, for me, the best. It's incredible the worlds of photorealistic graphics they have been able to create in a relatively short time. Other studios like Rockstar or Naughty Dog achieve similar things, but either they need more time, or they limit themselves to highly scripted experiences to achieve it, I think Playground right now is at a point that no one can match.
But for now they have only demonstrated this enormous performance in a specific genre, they have the opportunity to show that they also know how to apply it in other scenarios, and with more time and money, in theory something incredible should come out of here, we will see if the theory holds true.
I hope this pays off for them. I was much more impressed with the last trailer than others, so I've every reason to be optimistic.
In many ways it's a shame that they need this help. Playground is pretty good at what they do, but could do with a game from another genre under their belt. I can only assume Eidos Montreal is now involved as they have a lot more experience in the kind of worlds Fable is building.....
Fingers crossed for this project.
This is either really good news that they figured out how to multitask with other studios. Or it's a certified disaster and all hands on deck are needed.
Considering Xbox track record last couple years. I'm concerned.
