Things have been dark on Fable since last summer's big showcase, but news of a fresh co-developer is getting us all excited to see more of Playground Games' upcoming RPG reboot.
Third Kind Games has revealed that it is working on the new Fable game, as mentioned on the company's website. The announcement doesn't bring any sort of information on what exactly the team is helping out with, however, a look at their past work with the Forza Horizon developer could give us some clues.
The very same studio assisted with Forza Horizon 4 development - being "responsible for the performance of the game - ensuring a solid 60 frames per second on Xbox - and provided tools for development and optimisation support." Could we be at that stage with Fable? We're still a ways out from launch, but a team that's previously worked on console optimisation joining the project could be good news indeed.
We're just a few months away from Xbox's summer showcase, where we're holding out hope for another Fable appearance. The team announced this one way back in 2020, and we're ready for some new Xbox RPG goodness!

i won't touch anything playground makes.
I just hope they get the humour right and it's a good game to play I really enjoyed the older ones on the 360 back in the day
Playground are one of my favourite studios, I've loved every Forza Horizon even if the chatter can be a bit cheesy in the campaigns, it's goofy, fast, beautiful fun.
I do think they'll stick the landing on this one and go a bit darker like Fable demands - I look forward to it, and happy for them to have more support if it gets the game to us sooner
I rewatched the trailer to see if it would look better after some time has passed and it looks even worse.
I fear this will be another disappointment for Xbox.
That trailer made me completely uninterested. The Fable name carries a lot of weight and when this is fully revealed to not only deviate, in tone, but gameplay as well… It won’t be good news. I’m sure it will look very pretty but we know that’s not enough.
I'm still interested in this one. Fable needs to come back.
@rustyduck What made you feel this way about them?
@GeminiReign I thought fable 3 had all the things they were promising since fable 1 the story was just a stinker. You are right in saying they need to knock it out of the park.
Man people are picky.
I missed the shift away from magic in the first one.
@InheritNegative living up to your user name? 😉
I’ve played all three fable games and am pretty excited for the upcoming title. The trailer seems to have everything people would expect from fable in terms of tone and humour. I’m not sure what a fan of the series would find to dislike tbh. We don’t have much to go on in terms of gameplay, story, mechanics and world, but the little we do have is quite encouraging.
@VisitingComet1 wondering the same
@VisitingComet1 its a big mystery scooby doo. stay turned to find out more.
Hopefully they can get a decent animator to help on faces.
@rustyduck self defeating directive, Playground released the highest rated video game of 2021, they're elite.
@rustyduck
Why's that?
I'm hearing "Fable so far from being finished that they're still hiring developers "
That trailer took my hype from a 10 to a 0 pretty quick. It just doesn't look, feel or have the tone of Fable. It's like someone heard the title, heard it was made in Britain and just kinda went from there without ever playing the original 'trilogy'.
I'm really looking forward to it. I liked the trailer, even if it only teased a few gameplay sequences (albeit with no HUD).
I only played the original Fable and I don't know if I ever finished it (too long ago to remember). I guess I don't know what a "Fable game" should be.
Why so much negativity in these comments? The game is in the hands of a great studio, and it’s clear they’re giving it the care a beloved IP deserves by bringing in more talent. Even with what we saw in the showcase trailer (which granted, lacked a gameplay focus), I’m excited for what’s to come. Currently my most anticipated Xbox title, so maybe that’s why I don’t much understand people’s resistance to the game’s potential.
Unlike all the angry internet people, i think this trailer is incredible and really shows the tone (british humor.... humour if you will). I'm stoked for it.
DEI characters, inclusive plot, we all know how this goes.
Get a grip people. Not everything has to be doom and gloom all the time. I'm cautiously optimistic about the game. The trailer was pretty funny and charming.
The anti-woke movement is starting to be ridiculous if you want my opinion. Its more about being angry at everything than actually wanting a change. Must be a very depressing life, I moved on.
Even if the core gameplay's good, I don't think it'll feel very 'Fable' with how things are in Current Year. 100% gonna be a situation where people either love it or say it's Fable in name only. Just remember how many of us thought Redfall was gonna be amazing, and then we played it. Would be glad to be wrong but temper those expectations just in case.
I don't understand the people saying the trailer is nothing like fable. It has the terrible corny humor it seemed very fable to me. the dei comment what fable has had girls playing an important part from the start and the giant is black who cares. it was funny to me.
Wasn’t blown away by the last trailer, but we really haven’t seen much at all, willing to wait and see. Fingers crossed they reboot Fable right.
