The upcoming Xbox Game Pass release slate is looking a little quiet prior to our next roundup from Microsoft, but thankfully we have had a couple of Game Pass announcements recently - including an August addition to the service.
That'll be the sandbox adventure Core Keeper, while developer Brimstone has also revealed that rural city builder Overthrown is coming to the service via Xbox Game Preview in Fall 2024.
So, here's an introduction to these two upcoming Xbox Game Pass titles:
Core Keeper (Xbox Series X|S, PC) - August 27
"Explore an endless cavern of creatures, relics and resources in a mining sandbox adventure for 1-8 players. Mine, build, fight, craft and farm to unravel the mystery of the ancient Core."
Overthrown (Xbox Series X|S, PC) - Fall 2024
"Lift and throw anything as you build and manage your kingdom in this chaotic city builder for 1-6 players. Harness the power of your soul-stealing crown to defend your citizens from bandits and mutants, farm the land, and gather resources. Keep citizens happy or see them desert you!"

More indie games as usual
Overthrown looks fun! I will give it a go I think.
@Dan1283 I would take any one of these over a million Call of Duty games.
@Dan1283 COD hit yesterday.
@Dan1283 Plenty of non-indie games are added:
COD MW 3 was yesterday, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn and Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess were last week.
Last month there was The Callisto Protocol, Octopath Traveller 1 & 2.
May had Lords of the Fallen, Hellblade 2, Immortals of Aveum, NHL 24 & Tomb Raider: DE.
That's JUST the last 3 months. Game Pass has plenty of variety.
@Dan1283 Do not relate "indie" as something bad, nowadays it is easier to find good games among indies than among high-budget games.
In fact Core Keeper is wonderful, it was a big surprise on Steam and I'm sure it will also be a success on Gamepass.
I have not met a farming game that I like yet so hoping that one eventually clicks with me…
Not the quality I expect. And I'm not talking about AA/AAA, there are high quality indies, these look like mobile games.
Both of these look far more appealing than CoD coming to Game Pass. I’m glad there’s space for both.
@fbnaulin kind of an odd way to say you don't like games like Stardew Valley and Terraria, or Portal Knights.
@Raw_Dawg don’t get me wrong, I love Stardew Valley. What I’m seeing in these two titles is generic mobile art direction, cheap assets, and lack of unique or differentiating elements.
For anyone interested Core Keeper is absolutely one of the best in the farm/life sim genre. It has fantastic core loop and really good base building. Just a right amount of vibes from stardew for an underground mining and adventure sim. Also you can build Go-kart tracks.
It's a REALLY good game. I'd recommend it to everyone.
Yay, more eh. Can't wait til we get some actual games again
For once it’s nothing I care about! This year sure has had a lot of stuff I wanna play.
@90sGamer we have actual games at home.
There’s always a new game drought over summer, it’s nothing new. It gives you a chance to clear some of the previous winter’s backlog!
Every game now is crafting, yawn !.
@fbnaulin Core Keeper had excellent reviews and has been compared to Stardew Valley. Overthrown is clearly going to be a preview. Which means it will change.
@Dan1283 you should play more indies. You're more likely to actually find a good game that way. 🤷
Kunitsu was crap, I thought at first, I didn't like the demo, but the full game's not that bad.
And I actually managed to get the first achievement on Magical Delicacy last week.
@ParsnipHero I hate Call of Duty anyway, the first and last one I played was Black Ops 2, rented it from Blockbuster on the Xbox 360, and it sucked so I took it back the next day... I don't see why the Sony fans are so upset about it coming to Xbox?
