We've been highlighting a variety of Starfield mods here at Pure Xbox since they were first introduced on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in the form of "Creations", and one of the most exciting has been something called "Project Tamriel".
The idea behind this mod is (or "was") to "bring the entirety of Tamriel from The Elder Scrolls series into the expansive universe of Starfield." It sounded amazing when we first read about it, albeit an extremely ambitious project.
Well, it's only been a week since we highlighted it, and unfortunately... it's been cancelled. Speaking to VG247, one of the modders on the project suggested there was a lack of support and excitement from the community about it:
"After sharing the initial concept with the community, it became clear that the support we were hoping for just wasn't there. Many fans voiced concerns and indicated that they were not interested in seeing this project come to fruition. In terms of the team, we were a small group of passionate modders excited about the possibilities. However, the feedback we received made us realize that the excitement we felt wasn't shared by the broader community."
That's the end of that, then! It's a real shame that Project Tamriel won't come to fruition in Starfield, but perhaps the team's ambition may have inspired another set of modders to build something similar in the years to come.
In any case, we're going to see some incredible Starfield mods in the future thanks to the Creations suite, and we probably can't even imagine some of the awesome features it'll be getting a result. The sky's the limit for this one!
Sad to see this mod cancelled? What mods have you been trying on Xbox so far? Tell us down below.

Always seemed over ambitious, that's a LONG time to commit. Look at Skywind or Skyblivion, they're still in development over a decade later. Hopefully they'll get there eventually but it's a long long road.
It was too ambitious. They was talking about recreating multiple massive AAA games in a mod that was probably going to be decade of work with nothing to show now (even more so when the the other single game ones haven't launched).
Maybe I'm "old school" now* but wasn't modders driven by passion or single minded "I can fix your mess" stubbornness. Is support code for "patron cash"?
I think building Nirn as a planet that OTHER teams could build on would have been a better start.
*now excuse me whilst I turn into dust.
Yeah, I get the feeling this was less about the community's response and more about the team realizing the scope of the project and the fact that devoting years and years of your life to a project that has no financial benefit and for a game that has a relatively small player base nowadays wasn't a great use of their time or skills.
A failure of presentation but yeah sure blame the lack of community enthusiasm.
Want folks to be enthusiastic then have something to show them. Crucial for a fan project or a commercial one.
More so when pretty much everyone knows this would have been years in the making.
Maybe in future start off smaller and scale up once you did the small thing. Stepping stones and you will have things folks can be excited for as you progress
@Xeno_Aura " the team realizing the scope of the project and the fact that devoting years and years of your life to a project that has no financial benefit and for a game that has a relatively small player base nowadays wasn't a great use of their time or skills."
Is it wrong that I read this and immediately thought of Arkane Austin?
@BrilliantBill People don't even talk about it now let alone years from now 😂
Sounds to me like a small team of modders pitched an impossibly ambitious idea that they certainly couldn't do themselves, and simply hoped "the community" would be able to make it for them.
It's a fun idea and all, but they clearly had no idea how much work that would involve. This feels more akin to some casual, naive players coming up with a pipe dream than a team of modders with a genuine ambition to make something.
Anyone can come up with an idea, let's create the entire Jurassic park universe and put it on a distant planet.. and if I don't get a large enough team of volunteers right away then it's the communities fault for not supporting me more. Has nothing to do with the fact that I'm severely unqualified and have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, it's the communities job to put my ideas into fruition not mine.
I mean. If people wanna play TES they will play TES games. And there are projects like skyblivion that already are working on the “merge TES into one world” angle. And then there is the online game which is slowly becoming all of tamriel in one game. Shoehorning TES into Starfield was just square peg, round hole. Not everyone is gonna buy into an idea just because someone has an idea.

Bethesda game modders really do seem like a pretentious lot.
