As we've already mentioned today here at Pure Xbox, we saw a whole bunch of cool announcements at EVO 2024 over the weekend, but something that ultimately disappointed from an Xbox perspective was SNK Vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos.
It was announced on Saturday that the 2003 fighter would be getting a new version for PC, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, but sadly Xbox was nowhere to be found. This is despite the game launching for the original Xbox 21 years ago.
As you can imagine, this news has left plenty of Xbox fans disappointed:
The term "MVC" is mentioned in one of the posts above, and that refers to the Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection that also appears to be skipping Xbox in late 2024. In that case, it's been suggested that Capcom's old MT Framework engine is to blame for the omission, but there's no word on whether it's a similar situation for SNK Vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos - developer Code Mystics is handling the port for this re-release.
In any case, if you want to play SNK Vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos, it sounds like you'll either need to track down an original Xbox copy or pick up the new version on PC, PS4 or Switch - it arrives this week for those platforms.

Yeah, not the first time that XBox is left out.
I also hate that physical games are leaving out XBox so often.
So many games coming physical on PS4, PS5 and Switch. But not XBox, I hate that.
Because of MT Framework, probably.
At this point, you need to get used to this. Games like these are skipping simply because its not worth it. Xbox has the lowest userbase compared to PS, PC, and Nintendo which have the highest userbases of all. If its gonna keep continuing, Xbox will eventually continue to see less of these types of games on their platform. Games skip Nintendo mainly because of lower power but they will almost most certainly be put on to the next Nintendo console which will be more powerful than the Switch.
If this game is running on MT Framework, then that is a whole different issue since it is not supported on Xbox Series and doesn't support Xbox One anymore.
As long as Xbox demands a Series version for every new game, this is gonna keep happening. Total shame. A LOT of folks prefer Xbox for fighting games with its peripheral support.
@anoyonmus
Just a little reminder for everyone.
The next nintendo console isn't a guaranteed success. Nintendo have had their fare share of failures over the years.
@Nic-Noc20th-C Wii U and Virtual Boy. Those are the only two console failures they’ve had.
One could also argue the Game Boy Micro, but it was just a tiny GBA so eh, don’t really count it as a separate platform.
@Xbox_Dashboard I’m pretty sure the series S can handle this game. You have a valid point in general, though.
I've come to expect this sort of thing and am surprised when third party stuff (especially Japanese) comes to xbox. So close to jumping ship, sick of thinking one day ffvii remake will come, it's not.
They’ve already given an explanation why.
Previous articles on here have covered it also.
So unfortunately it is what it is and I doubt capcom will do it differently for (relatively) low sales.
Man I def would have scooped. I didn’t play this when it released on OG Xbox cause I was all about 3D fighters (namely DOA), but in recent times I’ve really started appreciating 2D fighters again.
We don't get this, we don't get Marvel Vs. Capcom... we never got Granblue, we never got either Under Night game...
Xbox fan money is worthless I guess! 😭
@Nic-Noc20th-C only the Wii U and Virtua Boy as someone said.
The next Nintendo console could be a fail, you’re right about that. But they said the same thing for the Switch too so let’s also remember that.
So yeah, who knows. If Nintendō plays their cards right, next console will be a success for them. If they don’t play it right, it probably won’t be success.
@dskatter from what little I understand about Capcom's MT Framework, it has never been pulled up to the Series generation. It only runs via back compat. And with Microsoft demanding all new titles have a dedicated Series version, no matter what, there is very little chance of seeing CvS or the MvC compilation on Xbox. Which is terribly sad imho. I have no doubts the Series could run it. This just seems like a logistics issue created by Xbox.
It's not a big deal to me. Xbox controllers have always been terrible for fighting games since the original console. I've never been a fan of the hard plastic bubble shaped A/B/X/Y buttons on any of their controllers.
For that reason alone, I will always choose Playstation or Nintendo for any of my fighting games, plus at least both of those platforms still receive physical releases.
@Xbox_Dashboard I was responding to your general assertion that the need for parity between the S and X is somehow causing issues like this, when it clearly isn’t simply from a CPU power perspective, not the MT framework issue.
@DTfearTheBEARD And those platforms’ physical releases are actually useful instead of requiring smart delivery to get the version your console needs.
I love buying the disc version of, say, Like a Dragon Ishin! and being forced to download the entire series X version. At least on PS5 if I buy a PS4 disc I can CHOOSE to play the PS4 version natively and not redownload the whole game.
@dskatter, I agree. Besides the controller, that's one of the reasons why I buy almost all of my physical games on PS5 instead of Series X. I want the Series X version on the disc, not the Xbox One version.
Unfortunately, those are few and far between. The last physical copies I bought for Series X are Resident Evil 4 Remake & Dead Space Remake because they don't have Xbox One versions.
@Banjo- Code Mystics has their own engine, isn't Capcom so no access to MT Framework.
As well this is a SNK arcade original NEO GEO game, not a Capcom made game AT ALL, lots of misconceptions here.
The only thing Capcom has to do with SVC Chaos is the IP usage. Same but the opposite for SNK for Capcom vs SNK games. Capcom made but SNK IP usage.
Anyways it is likely the same issues as MT Framework but from Code Mystics side. Not that there is ZERO support for Xbox One generally, Blacks Ops 6 is coming to XB1. Code Mystics haven't done anything with their engine tech (Prometheus) on Xbox since at GoldenEye 007 that came out on January 2023.
Sounds like a plan/request issue via SNK if I had to give an opinion as we know City of the Wolves is coming to Series consoles.
A "more trouble than it was worth for profit outcome" on Xbox, sucks.
@kuu_nousee Thanks for clarifying.
@DTfearTheBEARD I’ve bought some physical games since getting my series X a few months ago. Mostly used, with Cyberpunk (the whole game including Phantom Liberty on disc! Yes, please!) and a couple others as exceptions.
Anything I truly care about gets bought on PS4/5 or Switch though. Smart Delivery is a wonderful idea in theory, but for a physical media fan who wants the game they’re buying for their chosen console…not so much.
Oh sh#t, here we go again.
Oh come on Microsoft/SNK you are doing Xbox fighting fans a massive disservice not releasing this on Xbox. It's completely obvious that with a little work Xbox could run these games so why leave us out, shame on you 😔
@ShutenDoji I think you misspelled “SNK” there.
Edit: Good correction, but Microsoft isn’t responsible for what a company ports to its platform. Still just SNK’s deal.
I’m just glad I can retire my original. They keep this up and I can free up some space under the tv.
Capcom's insistence on doing things like this on MT Framework, when they know full well it's depreciated on XBOX, is effectively snubbing Microsoft in the most polite way possible.
They already made at least two successor engines, but they're acting like the porting to the new engine would be 'too expensive' or 'too difficult'...
Capcom made the MT Framework engine.
Capcom ceased support for XBOX.
Capcom are the root cause of this skipping XBOX.
No-one else.
@ValentineMeikin this game is not on MT Framework, this is an SNK game. Not even the same developers. Capcom is only part of SVC Chaos due to IP sharing with SNK. Why do people keep thinking this is a Capcom made game?
SF6, Monster Hunter Rise, Resident Evil 4, and Monster Hunter Wilds are all on Xbox Series consoles.
@kuu_nousee
Because the butthurt from MvC Collection is still very raw. And how many of those examples use MT Framework, and how many use RE Engine?
It sucks, but I guess this is just the way it is unfortunately.
@dskatter there you go fella, I've address the two party's responsible 😂
