Capcom is bringing Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess to Xbox Game Pass players later this week, which means early reviews of the action-strategy title are now starting to hit the web.

Our Pure Xbox review has just gone live, which you can watch up above or read all about down below - alongside a selection of other impressions from critics so far. Without further ado, let's get stuck in!

Pure Xbox (8/10)

"Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is a unique strategy experience that draws from traditional Japanese culture to give us an incredibly detailed world to work through, one bite-sized level at a time. The strategy here is tight, the animations and combat look and feel great, and the dancing, music and base-building ensure that there's always something to do in the downtime between Seethe-destroying sorties. Capcom are still on that hot streak, and we are here for it."

God is a Geek (9/10)

"Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is a wonderful game that mixes genres in interesting and creative ways. It strives to push the boundaries of what it is and changes your perceptions from one area to the next. Combat is always fun, even if it can be awkward to focus on the waves of enemies at times, always giving you so many interesting abilities. It’s beautiful, the strategical elements add so much to each level, and you’re always challenged no matter what the situation calls for."

PlayStationUniverse (8.5/10)

"Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is a wonderfully innovative fusion of genres that managed to take me on a journey from frustration to being totally absorbed in the world that it offers. Across a lengthy campaign, everything comes together to create a story that feels well and truly realised. Some rough edges do little to diminish just how impressed I am in how quickly this game managed to turn me around. While it might take a while for it to truly soar, it soars high."

The Gamer (8/10)

"Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is a breath of fresh air. Its tireless commitment to its aesthetic, and enticing, varied gameplay make for a memorable experience. One that is as charming as it is enthralling. In an era where Capcom largely produces remakes and sequels, games like Kunitsu-Gami are more important than ever. Every inch of Kunitsu-Gami feels deliberate, and the passion of those who developed it bleeds through. Kunitsu-Gami is carving a path forward for Capcom, and at the end of that path is a more creative gaming landscape."

VG247 (8/10)

"I found myself enraptured by this game. Hooked on its combat-cum-strategy and constantly awed by the sights I saw, entertained by the steady flow of upgrades and the structure of the mission layouts. It broadened my horizons a little bit, if a game can do that. That can't be a bad thing, can it?"

Push Square (7/10)

"It might not feel quite as new as its billing, but Kunitsu-Gami is still a lovely little game, with a seriously engrossing hook that'll have you wishing it was longer than it actually is. The plates it keeps spinning are impressive, even if it's actually a little slight in the final weighing."

Metro (6/10)

"Path Of The Goddess is a fascinating look at what happens when a big publisher lets its developers go off and do whatever they want, knowing the budget is low enough that they can’t get themselves into too much trouble. But, sadly, the experiment hasn’t really worked. Path Of The Goddess is weird and wonderful but it’s also very slight and feels sorely underdeveloped."

At the time of writing, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess has a Metacritic score of 77 and an OpenCritic rating of 79, so it definitely sounds worth a play on Xbox Game Pass if this is your sort of game!

If you're in the queue for this one, you can go hands-on with Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess this Friday, July 19th.
